I read somewhere that the AIM-120 had a probability of kill of 11%. Aren't BVR weapons actually quite ineffective against maneuvering targets in real life?

Yes, it seems they have to wait until the weekend to get enough testers together to test everything only to find a new issue that will start the weekly cycle all over again. One week at a time boys, one week at a time...
