Interestingly... we've had the VR Optimization since May
Yeti42 replied to Nagilem's topic in Virtual Reality
I think it was a medical trial...bear with me.... If they released the improvements and told everyone, we'd all be expecting better framerates and would project that impression (generally) in our results. If they release improvements and don't tell anyone, the reaction should be more objective. IT's kind of like a placebo effect.... I'm more concerned ned about the performance effects on non VR, I had some serious issues after 2.5.5 with framerates decreasing to single digits in some surcumstances -
Welcome! I would say the A10C if you have it is your best bet. It's benign to fly and you can learn the systems at your leisure. If I could go back 10 years or so I would give the following advice: 1. Turn labels off and leave them off, It's easy to spot targets with them on but....If you ever fly online you'll be in for a shock as everyone has them turned off. Learning to spot targets and use the pod is all part of the fun! 2. Don't use simple radio, same reason as point one 3. Fly all the training missions and map your HOTAS buttons as you progress through the missions, as you need them. 4. Start flying the campaigns and single player missions and repeat them until you are proficient with all the systems and weapons you need. 5. Find a flying buddy who can help you and give tips as you fly. 6. DON'T get despondent, DCS is a study sim, the more you fly and challenge yourself, the easier it will become. 7. Get proficient with the mission editor and create your own training missions. That is all.... ;)

That's a matter of opinion... It's not that obvious or other people would have spotted it... like a wing missing... LOL

Dynamic campaign (alike) graphic test
Yeti42 replied to beppe_goodoldrebel's topic in Game Performance Bugs
If you play the track file you'll notice that there are only a few groups of AI aircraft and one SAM group... The other AI (AWACS etc) has no bearing on the problem, removal of the SU34 group or the SAM group means the problem doesn't show up. I've already raised a bug with the trk file, log, and a data collector set. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=242962 -
Nice spot! if a little anal... ;)

Thanks to the devs, 2.5.5 is apparently much more smooth
Yeti42 replied to TwojaStara's topic in DCS 2.9
Slight performance increase for me followed by a drop in FPS to <10 in certain circumstances. NOT good, they broke something... -
Dynamic campaign (alike) graphic test
Yeti42 replied to beppe_goodoldrebel's topic in Game Performance Bugs
I can see exactly the same issue not using VR, no resources maxed out, FPS drops to below 10 as soon as the AI engages the SAM site in my mission, reproducible every time using this track file https://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=211692&d=1560171327 -
Dynamic campaign (alike) graphic test
Yeti42 replied to beppe_goodoldrebel's topic in Game Performance Bugs
No, everything maxed out at 4K. But as I said there is something wrong the performance of this release... 5-10 FPS when it's juddering 60 FPS in-between -
Dynamic campaign (alike) graphic test
Yeti42 replied to beppe_goodoldrebel's topic in Game Performance Bugs
If I run this mission I'm getting max 60% CPU on any core and around 40% on my GPU. Still very low FPS though. Something else is going on here, I'm getting very similar results on a very simple mission with some AI and targets enabled. 5i 9600 k @ 5Ghz 32 meg RAM and an RTX 2080. I ran a perfmon trace on my issue and see no CPU, GPU or RAM readings that would explain it. -
This is similar to the other performance issue reported BUT I've attached more info. It appears that the issue occurs when the SU34 hits the blue SAM site, FPS which had been stable at 60FPS drops to single digits, if the SU 34 is removed from the mission and therefore doesn't hit the SAM site, there is no issue. Attached perfmon data, DCS log, track file. dcs.txt DxDiag.txt Perf_Bug.miz.trk DataCollector.zip

[REPORTED] 2.5.5.31917 - INS and Waypoint Issue
Yeti42 replied to boscoh's topic in Bugs and Problems
The same issue here, it showed up when I tried to fly one of the Hornet campaign missions -
Focus in new future projects or finishing the ones already started?
Yeti42 replied to Kongamato's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I have.... ;) The problem is... that's how they make money, by releasing new stuff, without a constant stream of revenue, they'd go bust, that would be bad for everyone. That's one of the reasons the FSX team was disbanded, they reached saturation point with FSX and sales slowed, without something new to sell, their revenue dropped and the team became economically unviable for Microsoft. There is a fine line between revenue creation with new modules and "maintenance" of old modules. As I stated in a previous post, it's hard to justify throwing resources at incomplete modules when the resultant increase in sales for that module isn't really there. It's all consumer driven, if we didn't buy incomplete modules ED would be forced to complete them...simples... ;) -
dual throttle controls...to lock or unlock?
Yeti42 replied to fitness88's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I lock my TH Warthog after start, can't bear the thought of having asynchronous throttles...even if it's only a few percent -
Correct, it's giving me an IPv6 address when I'm looking at the populated IP address in the join with IP field.

How do I use URL not IP for server setup?
Yeti42 replied to Yeti42's topic in Multiplayer Server Administration
That's a bummer, so basically, if you are hosting your own DCS dedicated server and you don't have a static IP provided by your ISP, every time your gateway establishes a new connection (re-assigns your public IP) your DCS server becomes unavailable.... I suppose you could write something to amend your server config file every time or just restart the server on public IP change..... -
Thanks for the feedback. There's a lot of AI running and even I noticed some AI lag when accessing from the local network with a ping of 3! It's strange that you can't see it from the game server list...I've tried it from a client on my local network (same net as server) and it is showing up...

How do I use URL not IP for server setup?
Yeti42 posted a topic in Multiplayer Server Administration
Hi all, A small issue I'm having with trying to setup a dedicated server (beta) using DynDNS. So server works fine and reads external IP correctly. In order to avoid any complications when my IP is dynamically reassigned (external), I'd like to use DynDNS and point everybody to a domain name not an IP. Is there a line in autoexec.cfg I can use to specify the domain name of the server? Thanks -
Am I the only one disappointed in DCS World Multiplayer?
Yeti42 replied to tyleru7d894's topic in Multiplayer
I'm totally with you on this... Having to use SRS, Teamspeak or Discord on the off chance you may be accepted into some group is hit and miss, also for me the varying rules and rigidity of a lot of sqn's is disconcerting, (I spent 12 years in the military and don't want to repeat the experience whilst trying to have fun in multiplayer) ;) I DO understand why sqn's need structure and servers need rules, however there does seem to be a lack of informality nowadays, it wasn't always like this, I remember my days in the V66th and early in Savage 77th, we were very informal and there weren't many rules, had a great time. -
There are some inaccuracies... (apologies I'm anal) ;) Nice job overall though :) The most glaring one is that you say 90% for takeoff, the takeoff should be performed at MIL power...: The Takeoff: 4. Increase thrust to 90% to begin roll - Correct but then increase to MIL power 6. Pull back on stick 25° until liftoff – don't exceed 10° pitch - not sure where the 25 degrees comes from... NATOPS says "Maintain the control stick at the trimmed condition during the prerotation ground roll phase to minimize aircraft drag. After the pre-computed rotation speed (refer to NAVAIR 01-F14AAP-1.1), smoothly pull the control stick aft to position the HUD waterline at a 7_ to 10_ pitch attitude until safely airborne"

What he said, outstanding! I was just about to post this...

Hi all, So I've just created a new dedicated server which should be up 24/7... I'd appreciate some help in performance and stability testing... A few things to note: 1. Sever name "16sqn VRAF" 2. There is a demo Persian Gulf free flight mission loaded with targets for anyone 3. No SRS server as yet but will be coming 4. labels are on but obviously, you can switch them off 5. All aircraft are catered for Basically, this is a vanilla standalone server install with no mods, I'd like to get people's feedback on stability and speed before I start any detailed config. Please hit it with everything you can and hopefully, we'll get another reliable, fast server going with some decent missions. Thank You

What he said... No, I've even tried running it as a service, no joy...

Arresting system, PAPI lights, ALSF-1 in Nellis?
Yeti42 replied to Kongamato's topic in DCS: Nevada Test and Training Range
It would be good to have airfield arrestor systems IN DCS as all NATO airfields housing fast jets have such systems. They're called RHAG (Rotary Hydraulic Arrestor Gear) at British bases and are usually backed up by a Barrier at the end of the runway which can be raised and lowered. -
So I'm in the middle of a new build/upgrade at the moment and am turning my old rig into a dedicated server. I'll be hosting from home but my bandwidth and the rig should support 20 players no problem. I'm not planning on having all aircraft available but will host the more commonly used ones with an eye to creating missions that are both realistic and fun to play alone or with a team, there will be basic briefings but I'm a great fan of KSS (Keep it Simple Stupid). You hopefully won't have to comply with loads of SOP's or get kicked if you have the wrong weapons loadout. (loadouts will be controlled by setting availability)

LOL, I'm with you brother! Sometimes you just want to fly and not have to bother with all the baggage that comes with taking things very/too seriously.... This is meant to be fun after all...
