  1. You only need TARGET if you want to program macros. Normal control mapping and loading/saving profiles from within game works without it. I don't use TARGET as I find it buggy
  2. +1,
  3. The problem with this logic is that if there was no early access, we WOULD probably have a fully completed "Functionally complete" F18 by now as ED need to sell stuff to stay alive and would have made maximum effort to get the F18 out of the door and complete. That's how software development works... normally...
  4. This is now resolved - Overclocked RTX 2080 was downclocked and appears to have resolved the problem along with some other instabilities.
  5. This happens 100% of the time after a few minutes on the Stennis. Release 2.5.6 Crash dump track file etc. attached Edit: This appears to happen anytime the Stennis is on map and the F14 is player. No crashes with the F18 and Stennis together. dcs.log-20200217-151602.zip
  6. This! I'm slightly OCD and this is driving me nuts! ;)
  7. This is a rhetorical question ;) Some months ago I decided to "upgrade" and replace my old 1080p monitor. I'd recently acquired an RTX 2080 and thought I could quite reasonably go for a 3 monitor setup or a single 4k setup without compromising performance too much. I started to look at high refresh rate monitors (100HZ or more) and widened my search to 4K TV's. Having tried the 3 monitor solution (I had 2 spares at home) the result wasn't optimal and had quite a hit on my frame rates even at 60HZ refresh rate with vsync on (Max 60 FPS) Buying 3 new monitors at 120hz with good response times was really quite pricey! a 49" TV could be the answer I thought and it was. The tv I opted for was a 49" LG 65SM8500PLA 164 cm TV which I picked up on Amazon for under 600 Euros. This TV reportedly sup[ported up to a 120HZ refresh rate with reasonably fast response times and HDR. Unfortunately, 4K at 120HZ didn't appear to be supported but 2560 x 1440 at 120Hz was, more than good enough and easy on my GPU. Remember you need an HDMI 2.1 connector to achieve this...
  8. THIS! You constantly need to use some rudder at pretty much any speed and weight if there is no fly by wire system.
  9. I've just implement DCSFP and DCS BIOS. I had a few problems which were resolved quite quickly but wanted to post my experience as it may help others with similar problems. DCS BIOS install path After following the instructions for install I started the application (DCSFP) for the first time and was met with an error page saying that DCS BIOS could not be found and to check the install path. I searched for a config file or similar which had the path to the DCS BIOS json directory and couldn't find one. The Install path in the error had defaulted to the <saved games>\DCS directory and not the DCS.beta directory. There were no instructions detailing where this path could be changed, I discovered by accident that you need to set the path from within the settings page of DCSFP. Once I had done this AND deleted the error log everything ran as normal. Using copied profiles for specific aircraft It wasn't immediately apparent that you needed to change the device ID in the profile to your specific Device ID and how to do this. There was an error/warning message when importing a profile but I wasn't sure if using the button to copy your device ID actually made any changes to the profile or if you needed to manually change the ID in the profile file. The button did indeed change everything for you and all you had to do is save the profile again.
  10. This has been discussed before so please bear with me... This is a wish list, this would be top of my wishlist... The lack of a full-fidelity 4th generation Soviet fighter/bomber is limiting when trying to set up realistic scenarios for missions and online servers. The FC aircraft are all well and good but they cannot replace a full-fidelity model IMHO. I've heard that ED (or any 3rd party developer) are unable to do this due to the lack of PD information available and are concerned that they would fall foul of the Russian authorities if they attempted it. I'm not sure if this situation has changed over the years but I think an SU-27 or Mig 29A would be a great addition and would sell very well.
  11. Your graphics card is letting you down, the rest of the components are fine as long as you clocked your CPU. An Upgrade to a 2070 or 2080 super would almost double your framerates I'd expect...
  12. Fusing functionality is not fully modeled in DCS as far as I'm aware, the different types of fuses used are often set for a Safe Separation Time (SST) either electronically or mechanically (using a rotating vain which screws the tail fuse in and makes it live) This ensures the weapon does not detonate immediately after or during launch. All of the bombs I've ever worked on had an SST set ... but that was some time ago. Public domain information is naturally sparse when it comes to modern bomb fuzes... BUT a catch-all setting of say a 1.5-second delay for arming of all weapons would be useful in DCS...
  13. Basically my rule of thumb is if you can't save the mod in the saved games folder then I don't use it. Most mods come with easy to follow installation instructions and if not there are plenty of guides on youtube. Mod managers are good if you are installing in the main games directory as you need them to reinstall the mod after an update. Don't try to install a mod in the main games directory, get it wrong and then try to install in the saved games directory or vice versa, strange things may happen. If the mod doesn't work it usually means you didn't follow the instructions correctly and didn't create the required directories.
  14. If You don't overclock the Ryzen then it's going to be wAy down the table as far as performance goes. Max overclock I think is around 4.2 GHz which puts it midway up the table when compared to the current budget/midrange CPU's. DCS is not optimized for multiple threads and therefore there is very little advantage in having a lot of cores (Ryzen) Single-core performance is where it's at with DCS and the Ryzen you are thinking of does not fare well in this category when compared to unlocked i5 processors, it is cheap though... As far as the XFX Radeon RX 570 RS goes, again it's a budget card which would be regarded as low end in the flight sim world, this is pure guesswork but I suspect your proposed new rig will be OK (Ish) if your playing at 1080 and settings on medium with a few tweaks, anything more than that and your going to struggle. I would be interested how it does actually perform though so please post back to this thread when it's built.. ;)
  15. RAF military aircraft in Europe still use QFE for approach and pattern work. Here is an example of a Hawk doing and PAR approach and setting QFE:
  16. I would advise that you go for a 2080 super for anything above 2k resolution if you're wanting to set graphics to high or ultra. I suspect your current GTX 980 would be the bottleneck if you were to go for 1440p, although I don't know what CPU and memory you are running... For VR you would definitely need a 2080 super with DCS, this also wouldn't make it any easier to spot targets. TN screens would work well in DCS as the have fast response times, the colour definition and viewing angle range is less although this shouldn't bother you that much. Spotting targets in DCS is hard, full stop. Basically the larger the pixels are, the greater chance you have of spotting a target. If you're running at 2k for instance and you have a 52" screen, it will be easier to spot than running 2K on a 32" screen. EDIT, So I have a 2080, an i5 9600k clocked at 5Ghz and 32 Gb DDR 4 memory and cannot maintain 60fps running at 4K, my GPU is maxed out indicating the RTX 2080 is still the bottleneck.
  17. LOL, what did I say about Friday releases.... ;) https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=4082674#post4082674
  18. The anti skid system does not appear to be implemented yet, is this coming later or is it a bug? I carried out 2 breaking tests one with anti skid on and one with it off. Breaking distance from 100 knots was the same regardless. The outside visual model also shows brakes locking intermittently regardless of setting...
  19. Joking aside, it would be good to at least have to set the IFF code in order to get a friend ident. That would encourage people to read the brief, if they didn't set their IFF there'd be a chance they got shot down by a friendly...
  20. Some humans may, us other non-humans will get stuck into a mission and realise the IFF doesn't work as it used to after shooting down our wingman.... ;)
  21. Friday releases aren't good... means you have to come in at the weekend to release the hotfix... ;)
  22. If you're not fussed about training or structure you can check v16sqn out, we have a dedicated server and try to fly once a week, very informal, still quite small... https://discord.gg/tnAAeKe
  23. Strictly speaking, to re-activate yes you would have to use MOOSE. You can, however, use the normal mission editor to do something similar: 1, Create your group call it <group1> or something descriptive 2, Copy the first group and call it <group1_1> , check enable late activation 3, carry out step 2 as many times as you need the group to respawn 4, Create a trigger that activates the next group when the previous group is dead Names can be anything, make sure "late activation" is enabled for all groups except the first one.
  24. F14 is great, best module out there IMHO but... Jester allows the radar to loose lock frequently when there is no manoeuvring going on, obviously, this is because the bandit moves out of the current cone. A Real RIO would adjust radar elevation/Azimuth etc to keep lock but Jester does not appear to do this on all occasions.
  25. Exactly!
