This is exactly right. When it came to developing combat skills, the German military was well known for its work ethic and perseverance. Austria, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Denmark, Norway, France, Belgium, Netherland, Luxembourg, and Greece. Not to mention short trips to England. Yeah, compared to Germany, the U.S. military, and fighter pilots especially, were just a bunch of couch potatoes.

Fair enough. I can't speak for all airplanes, but the ones I've flown have had the altimeter lag the VVI. I'm speaking of jet aircraft. I don't really remember props. Also, I remember referring to it as a VSI

STAB 12 (up) is the normal takeoff position. It defaults to that on startup so your systems are working as intended.
