Lord I will check again later today. BTW, in real life is this how this is done? I know I could be better for sure but using this combo of TPOD and 82LG, dropping one bomb per pass, needing to go minimum 8 miles beyond target to have time after turning around to find the next target seems like a real slow and expensive way (even forgetting the possibility of getting shot down) to take out these launchers. Seems there might be a way to use the TPOD create a way point or something for 4 launchers on one pass and then drop 4 bombs on the 4 points on a return pass.

Still on Mission 13. I figured out how to find the launchers and have flown 4-5 times getting launchers targeted Ok. Then I screw up and forget to re-arm the laser LTDR(?). So I have been hitting 1 or 2 launchers w/ my 4 bombs. But I just flew it again, had the laser count down, the LTDR count down, dropped 4 82LGs on the same launcher and never saw a single hit. On one drop I zoomed out so I could see most of the area the launchers are in hoping to see it hit somewhere. Nothing. Is there a problem w/ these weapons now in DCS or am I messing up again.
-
I have never had that problem. In either of the 180 turns the plane will increase bank angle on it's own but that is a left turn so not related to your problem.
-
I waited until I was next to last FA-18 to leave the carrier which seemed to overcome the problem of not getting all planes into their hold positions. So AWACs said target is C. The pic above is C. But I don't know which of the various shaped objects are the launchers. None look like launchers to me. Maybe the garage looking structures hide them?

That's what I did. Hit 'R' on the deck to rearm and chose Fs instead of Es. But I think I just used the normal MavF screen helped w/ some use of active pause.

I can't wait for the answer. Often I fly around w/ that symbol in the HUD and can't get rid of it.

I am back again, stuck on mission 11 now. Have flown it 8 times and can't win. Yesterday I tried editing the lua file like this. ["result"] = 50, ["mission"] = "FA-18_OitW_11_Desert Cats.miz", }, -- end of [33] [41] = { ["datetime"] = "Tue Mar 2 10:15:37 2021", ["agKills"] = 0, ["aaKills"] = 0, ["stage"] = 13, ["deathsCount"] = 0, ["result"] = 100, ["mission"] = "FA-18_OitW_12_Silkworm.miz", }, -- end of [41] [17] = { ["datetime"] = "Sat Feb 13 18:13:33 2021", ["agKills"] = 3, ["aaKills"] = 0, In the Mar 2 10:15 log entry I changed stage 12 to 13, result 50 to 100, and mission to 'FA-18_OitW_12_Silkworm.miz'. Closed DCS, restarted the PC, back into DCS, and tried the campaign and it wanted me to fly mission 11 again. So I flew it again and cheated like crazy doing active pause so I could find the plane, lase it, kill it. Killed three planes. Saw each blow up on the FLIR screen and got the popup messages acknowledging each kill. Is there something else I need to do? I fly all the waypoints on the way in. I did skip the bullseye waypoint after killing the planes and got the tacan bearing directly to the boat. I did tell the other pilot to 'attack the mission and rejoin'.

TIR5 is an absolute game changer. Now that I have had it for 2 yrs no way I'd do without it. TIR5 w/ just the reflector that you clip to your hat works just fine. I also have the electronic sensor that I clip to my headphones but I like the basic hat clip better so that will make TIR5 a little less expensive for you. I found that the throttle on my stick was fine for everything until I started doing carrier landings. There you need extremely fine control that there is no way to get w/ that tiny lever. My TM Warthog throttle was about $250 so it took me a while to justify it.

For me being not much of a PC nut, I see stuff like that too. Yesterday I was reading a thread that said difficulty getting the autopilot Balt to work could be caused by lack of dead zone on one's stick. So I figure I will look at the curves for my stick. Scrolled all the way through the column for my stick and roll, pitch, and yaw don't seem to be bound anywhere. But the stick works great. I dunno...

Yep, the mission editor is far from intuitive isn't it.
-
For this reason I quit using the training missions a long time ago. Also you get a whole paragraph of text and then it disappears. I can't memorize that much text and you can't go back to it.
-
Yeeehaaw. I am not sure what was different but I just flew again and got a 100 result. So on to the next mission. Thanks all for your help.
-
So I flew once more and it works fine so glad I didn't hurt the campaign. Then went back to the lua. You can see near the top the flight on 2/21 where I changed the agkills from 0-3. Below is today's flight 2/22 which I then changed 'result' to 100 and 'stage' from 9 to 10 and 'mission to the 'minhad'. I closed everything and did a restart of the PC, fired up DCS, and went to the campaign. It still wants me to fly the mission 8 again.
-
Thanks to both Bunny and ROB. Yesterday I realized I should have changed the result and tried going back in. Did something wrong and now instead of the above style layout it is a huge solid paragraph of some other language. Tried both notepad and wordpad but no luck. I will download Notepad++ and see if that helps. First I will try to fly it to see if it just looks real funky or if it is damaged.

Tried again and no luck. 32,000ft, a little < 30kn away from target. So decided to try to learn about editing lua files. Got it opened in wordpad. Didn't know what I was looking at but found this which, judging by the date and times, is the mission I just flew. The 'AGKills' line had an '=0' so I changed it to '=3'. Saved it, closed it, went to DCS and closed and re-opened it. Went to my Oil in the Water campaign and it wants me to fly mission 8 again. Sorry to be such a pain but this is over my head. I searched on this forum for info on how to edit lua files w/ no luck. Is there a tutorial for editing lua?

I would prefer that they fix the various problems we have now vs coming out w/ an update.
-
Thanks Bunny, I will give it another go this afternoon.
-
Bunny and padre I will try your suggestions. I am on the stable version. I could learn how to work w/ lua files but not sure I want to. In one of my attempts I changed the height to 500 ft because I had previously watched an F6 view and it seemed they exploded at 1500 (the default setting I think) and it looked like they rained down tiny fireworks. A general question. We have 4 planes w/ 4 JSOWS (or maybe they have dumb bombs) each, so 16 bombs for 4 targets. How can they survive? Do I only get credit for my own 4 bombs? I notice that my wingmen usually fly right into the target area. Why do they do that? There is some comment in the 'briefing' (?) about helping to protect the wingmen since they need to get closer. So a couple of times I tried taking on the two enemy fighters. Of course my missiles miss and theirs don't. Does the wingmen's fate affect my score? If not, I will release weapons and bug out.

New to DCS world; why the FA-18 keep auto-stop?
CBStu replied to bwazza's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
I don't know anything about your specific controller but am aware that DCS will auto assign some functions especially the first time you connect it. I guess that way there is a possibility you could fly w/o doing any control setup. Some things that you may never know exist may be assigned. IE: I never even knew there was an auto stop. There are so many controls it may be difficult to find the auto stop. I would look at each column one at a time. Scroll all the way through the keyboard column, then the X56 column. I bet the 'autostop' is assigned to a key or button that has another function assigned to it. So, for instance, you go to select a missile, and you get both the missile and the 'auto stop'. -
I am stuck on mission 8. Have flown it 6 times and can't get whatever I need to be moved to the next mission. I no longer care. Is there a way I can take my zero and move on?
-
I agree, thanks ED for a wonderful experience. I am well through my 2nd year flying the 18 and am still learning. I started flying campaigns 6 weeks ago and wow, have they been a lot of work. I knew I didn't know as much as I would need to but now, instead of skipping over or half a$$ing a new weapon, I make myself do the work. Because otherwise I can't get to the next mission. So much fun and satisfaction.
-
Thanks Bunny. I will keep working at my skills and at you campaign. Even though my results could be better, I am having a lot of fun.
-
Thanks guys this is great info. I have been flying the FA-18 for 1.5 yrs now. Every once in a while I think about getting pedals so I don't have to use the twist on the stick. But then I realize I almost never use the rudder anyway. Now I know why that is.

Oh great. I am not sure that I have since the forum change since I am not sure when that was. I will try again tomorrow. Heck w/ tomorrow, I will try now. Yeehaw. I got it to work using the 'choose files' below. I like it because it looks like I don't need flickr or other host, it pulls right from my pictures on my PC. Thank you Brun.
