  1. If I could give you a tip, go and learn what you can yourself about an aircraft that you’d like to focus on, if it’s capable of aerial refuelling or carrier landing then spend some time getting those things to a reasonable standard. I would also suggest spending some time practicing formation flying and reviewing some videos on basic fighter manoeuvres. There’s some really good stuff out there on this topic from people like growling sidewinder and on the other items from people like a Redkite (Youtuber). Having your backside handed to you on the just dogfighting server, particularly in the 1 vs 1 arena is invaluable and will make you a useful asset to any squadron. You certainly don’t need to be perfectly proficient at these things before hooking up with a squadron but not many squadrons will want to take you through the basics, they’d prefer to spend their time refining the above and bringing you into line with their particular standard procedures. I fly in real life albeit only in a civilian capacity but I had never flown formation and to be honest found this more difficult than I first expected, but like anything with practice comes proficiency. I now fly with a squadron that consists of a number of current and former military pilots and they’re constantly teaching me plenty. In short, learn what you can independently then ask for refinement and more detailed teaching.
  2. And it's only going to bet better and better, this year in particular from what I understand.
  3. Fantastic, thanks very much for getting back to me. I'll save a copy of the originals to swap out in the event that I need the Integrity Check. I appreciate your help.
  4. That makes it a lot clearer, thanks very much for that, I appreciate it.
  5. I saw that I had a backup folder offered to me on a recent repair (that went well enough) however, I am a little confused about what you're saying here. Does the fact that my backups are in the Program files directory as opposed to the Saved Games directory mean that I have some mods that I have previously saved in the Program Files directory (I know, I should remember myself right!) I cannot find a backup folder in the saved games directory even though I know that I still have lots of active mods in their following the repair. Could someone clarify how this works?
  6. Pardon my ignorance but the readme file associated with the Blue Angles Equipment mod posted by Tommy27 et al states the following: the contents of "BLUE ANGELS Root Mods" in "C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta" and "BLUE ANGELS Saved Games Mods" in "C:\Users\*UserName*\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta". When I go to place the contents of the Roots Mods folder (specifically the three sub folders of scripts mods and core mods) I am asked if I wish to replace some files with others, I am just making sure that I do need to replace the existing files? I am a little unsure and don't want to cause a bigger problem with my install. I know this would probably be obvious to most but the cost of me getting it wrong is not worth it. Kind regards.
  7. So Ive finally figured it out, of course it's not that hard. I am CT11 (as flight lead in SP instant action fighter sweep) so that's me as CT11 in the list of initiators. Rookie error.
  8. Yep, that’s what I’m talking about.
  9. Can anyone tell me, when I’m looking at the debriefing page notes in a SP mission or instant action, how do I tell which aircraft I killed in the list of “Initiators” on the right. It’s listed under the “Log filters” My call sign is listed in the page in the middle at the top but there are so many F16 Viper block 50 and none of them are listed as “player” even though I can see that “my kills” were 2. Im not sure why they can’t just state my call sign next to the aircraft that I was flying. thanks in advance.
  10. Thanks very much. That’s great.
  11. The tittle kind of says it all. I’ve done a search through the manual and online without any luck.
  12. Ok, given what you've said can we simply stick to 1500 feet setting to be effective against tanks at all elevations/terrains? or is there a bug in the software that we need to compensate for?
  13. I am having this problem too, I seem to get it to work only when the sensor select goes back to the FLIR page after uncaging, only then will my Laser target designator lined up with the target when I pickle and a few seconds later the rocket will come off the rails nicely.
  14. A workaround that I have found for the time being is simply to type the first few letters of the server you’re after and then you should limit the list such that you can select the one you want without the screen locking up. It’s obviously no good for looking for a new server randomly but it might get you out of the woods.
  15. I can see it in my Reverb clearly enough from 3/4 mile. For CAT 2/3 it’s supplemented by the CILS. Ideally you could leave it switched off or at least have a brightness setting.
  16. What did you think of doing night flying in blue water operations?
  17. I’ve noticed the vert scam mode is broken too for the record, it’s a PIA.
  18. Funny you say that, it’s in the flow chart but I couldn’t find a way to do it. Turns out I’m not going mad.
  19. Thanks for the heads up, nice to know ED is on the case though. Surely a sign of good things to come.
  20. Sounds worth a go. Does it cause any complications with multiplayer integrity check?
  21. That’s the one, thank you very much. Incidentally, anyone here tried it. Worthwhile or not?
  22. Can anyone point me toward some new technique that ED is trying in an experimental form. I saw a video on it a few days ago but I can’t seem to find it in my history. The person who made the video indicated that a line in the code needed to be changed and suggested that it had something to do with not drawing what was not in shot. Importantly, it was suggested to provide significant improvements in frame rate. Bit of a shot in the dark but hopefully someone can help me out.
  23. I thing there is a case for a military turboprop trainer like the T6 Texan or Pilates PC-9. The Yak is not a modern military trainer and the jets are neither modern nor ideal for training. A turboprop with a reasonable ground speed would be perfect for practicing navigation, IFR and formation training. Additionally, the complexity of such a model would be simple for the developer.
