For the record. I ended up paying $380 when I got mine. I thought that was a great deal. Too late now to submit another claim to my credit card company.
-
I also purchased the optional warranty because I have three young kids. If you’ve ever seen how kids act around buttons, you’d better think twice about having the TM Warthog in your house :) It’s worth every penny, especially if you’re flying the Hog in DCS.

They are a fairly large electronics store around the Midwest. Sort of like Best Buy or Fry’s. I’ve been in their stores when I used to live in Chicago. I had actually purchased from Amazon so I get fast shipping and easy returns, then used my credit card benefits to refund me the difference :)

On sale now for $320 + free shipping. Thought someone here might be interested. https://www.abt.com/resources/pages/search.php?keywords=warthog edit: It's listed for $345. You have to sign up for their newsletter to receive $25 off your first purchase of $250 or more.

Thanks! I never thought about altitude in meters. I thought feet was universal for aviation. This makes sense and goes along with what I know as a general aviation pilot. You usually get an assigned altitude, but usually relieved of the restriction before you reach it. It’s not usually as low as 1000 feet though. I can’t imagine a 300m restriction for fighter jets climbing at 5000 fpm.

Every time I take off from Kobuleti, ATC says, “... climb 300 at QFE xx.xx...”. What is 300 in reference to? Is it my assigned heading? Climb rate (perhaps meters/minute)? Airspeed? It never changes, regardless of which runway I choose or where my first waypoint is. I can’t make sense of it. Regardless, they always let me come back and land :) Thanks.

The Enemy Within 3.0
GTFreeFlyer replied to baltic_dragon's topic in A-10C The Enemy Within Campaign 3.0
I also just played it. Amazing. I was so proud of myself for spotting the targets before the cues came up (the first time I’ve managed to do so) especially since spotting in VR is a challenge. I was so excited, I blew everything up. I’m guessing I have to be patient and just follow the script from now on. Lesson learned. -

I don’t think so. The label is simply some text that you choose what to type and where to place it. I don’t think you can do two texts or two locations. Look at the very bottom (I think) of the LUA file. It shows the format of the text in order to get what you want. I’m not looking at it now, but for example it will be something like %N%D, which would display name and distance. The comments in the LUA file explain this and also gives examples. -
I saw a YouTube video (can’t remember which) of some guy testing this out. He was dropping unguided bombs. The bombs always missed in the same direction and distance without touching the LASTE menu. For these tests he did all his run-ins at the same altitude, airspeed, and heading. After entering in the wind data, he dropped a few more bombs and they all hit very close to the target. A noticeable difference. After seeing that video, I’m not convinced the IFFCC calculates the wind automatically even if it’s supposed to. I always enter in the data now while waiting for INS alignment on the ramp.

Search for the “Spotting mod for VR”. It’s awesome. I didn’t want to use it at first because I thought it would be like cheating, but not at all. It’s much more realistic. It’s set up for air to air spotting, but you can edit the LUA to also allow for ground targets. You just change the ground targets parameter at the top of the file from false to true, then adjust the distances to your liking. I have mine set up so I can’t really notice anything until I’m within a realistic spotting distance. At first I was spotting targets from 10 miles away which really bugged me, but now I’m loving it.
-
True, unless there is wind and no wind data was entered into the LASTE menu.

I’ve been playing with the LUA file recently and also added the dot to ground targets. You can’t set up the dot to change size per distance. You get to choose one size (it’s actually a “dot” character, and a font size chosen). You can only charge it’s opacity per distance. Take a look at the LUA file. It’s not too difficult to understand. The font came in at size 15. I changed it to 12 which made things better for me. Any smaller and it was very difficult to see. -
And you should confirm your TGP is the SPI by looking at the very lower left of the HUD. It should say TGP, not STPT when you are running in. Otherwise the computer is lining you up to drop on the steerpoint.

My biggest issue was that I wasn’t giving it enough time to fall and correct its path. I usually drop them above 8000 feet. Fall time is usually 15-20 seconds and I use 15 sec auto-lase

Mission 10 : Birds of prey
GTFreeFlyer replied to bzhnono's topic in A-10C The Enemy Within Campaign (legacy version)
Have you tried out those handy night vision goggles in your plane? By default it is RShift+H, then adjust the gain with RShift+RCtrl+H and RShift+RAlt+H. Wasn't this one the early morning run, where it's mostly dark until you get to the valley, then the Sun starts to peak? The one with Schaefer? If it makes you feel any better, Schaefer died 10 times over here too, lol. -
Just started. Loved the twist on mission 1. One thing I noticed was when I was trying to get situational awareness of everyone lining up to land, everyone's spoken call sign (Dodge 1, Dodge 2, etc) does not match their group ID in the TAD. It was a little confusing, but I figured out who was who. It was also a little tough to understand the female (Dodge 2-1) as her recordings seemed to echo a little. Not as clear of a recording as the other voices. I'm really curious as to which voice is yours. Perhaps you'll share with us? Also, in the 1st mission, Loving it. Can't wait to continue. I bailed from 2.2 after completing M11 Scramble, which I also thought was amazing, but knowing that 3.0 was already loaded on my PC, I just couldn't continue. Perhaps I'll return to 2.2 at some point. I hope you don't mind some constructive feedback as I continue. Part of my job IRL involves providing feedback for new products, so it's sort of baked into me :)

Edit above post... Nevermind. I figured out the ground target thing. The LUA was actually pretty easy to understand. Now I just have to tune it to realistic settings. -

Nice mod. Actually, so good in fact I hardly even knew it was on until I found out about the Lshift+F10 toggle to verify it was working. I was afraid that it would make the experience unrealistic with the dot on the planes, but not at all. I wouldn't have known there was a dot if I hadn't installed the mod myself and looked for it. Question: How do I make this apply to ground targets as well? It's very difficult to spot ground targets in the Rift, as I'm sure you're aware of, which makes VR unrealistic in that regard by default. If I could spot things on the ground like IRL, it would make the experience that much easier and better. I currently rely on my TGP more than needed. A T-55 sitting in an open field...perfectly hidden from me! Thanks! -
Thanks. Next mission I’m playing is a scramble. Just trying to be prepared to go quickly.

Do I need to be sitting still during INS alignment or can I begin taxiing while waiting for the counter to reach 4.0.0.8? I have always assumed that taxiing would slow it down, so I usually just wait until it’s ready before taxi. I usually spend the time entering LASTE info, DSMS, etc, but these are things I can also do in flight while traveling 70nm to the AO. I’ve finally got my startup down to 5 minutes or so, but it sure would be nice to be at the runway, ready to go, as soon as INS alignment is complete. Thanks.

Military equivalent of pilot/controller glossary?

Makes sense. I’m usually nowhere near a 180 dB gun when I’m on radio in a Cessna 172. Likely why I haven’t considered that. [emoji3] -

Nice review. I’m just curious what it takes to make such a production behind the scenes. Other than requiring others to help provide voices, do you have lots of help, or is it a one-man-show? Is it just you alone creating the missions, editing the sounds, putting together docs, etc?
