  1. Do you have any video of this in action? I’m interested to know more.
  2. You actually have excellent memory. Perhaps your recall sucks :)
  3. Now that I’ve been trying this for a few days, I think I found the fix to engines not starting properly with the TMWH... Just make sure that when you start the sim, the throttles are in the idle position. After you’re in the cockpit, move them to the cutoff position, then start your engine start sequence. It doesn’t like when I load into the sim with throttles in the cutoff position. It’s been working 100% of the time since I started doing this.
  4. Check out some Youtubes. It helped me a lot. Check out the Youtube playlist below. Lots of excellent stuff by Bunyap. On the Range Tutorial Series Username: Bunyap Sims You seems to be new to DCS just like me. I’m finally starting to get the hang of it. Ever want to try out some multiplayer? I play usually around 9-11 PM PST. I’ve never tried before.
  5. I thought FPS was capped at 45fps. Are you really getting 90? I’ve got a RTX2080 and it seems to just stay right at 45. When not in VR, I get between 160-190 FPS.
  6. I’ve also got the CH pedals. Everything was plug and play. No setup required. Here’s a tip for the TM Warthog I found helpful: On the stick, set up the pinky lever (not the pinky switch used for NWS and laser) as a modifier. Now you can hold the lever down and reuse all of the switches of your HOTAS for other functions. You’ve now just doubled the amount of functions you can do with the HOTAS which comes in very handy when trying to stay away from the keyboard while you are flying in VR. For example, on the throttle there is a landing gear warning silence button, but if I hit it while holding in the pinky lever, it raises/lowers the landing gear. Also, I propose we stop referring to flying DCS in VR. I always tell my wife I’m going to fly in DR... Desired reality!
  7. Me too. Too much of an immersion break to look at the map.
  8. Excited when I saw a new update was available. Disappointed when the change log had nothing about the A10. We keep hearing stuff is in the works, but no details yet. Wags is pretty good about mini updates in the F18 forum. Any chance we can get something similar for the A10, or should I start looking for another plane?
  9. Do you have a Fry’s near you? They sometimes carry them. MicroCenter too.
  10. Thanks for the note about the emergency brake. I just assumed it was a physical cable down to the calipers rather than hydraulics, just in case you lost all hydraulics. I swear I played a mission where I landed, all battle-torn, without any pressure in the brake lines. Aircraft was only slowing down due to air brakes and general drag and friction. As I approached the end of the runway at high speed, I pulled the e.brake at the last moment and the aircraft came to a sudden halt only a few feet off the end of the runway. So what happened there? Just trying to understand how that system worked out for me. Funny but true story... I have a pilot’s license and rent Cessnas. My training consisted of me being told to never set the parking brake or pull the handle (opposite of what the checklist says), because the aircraft I rent are “difficult” to reset the parking brakes. I guess they get stuck. So now I’m close to 200 takeoffs and landings and have never once used the parking brake. I sure do stand on those brake pedals though when I start up the engine! This is likely what led to my incorrect statement of using the e.brake in the A-10. I’ve never actually tried it because I’m always standing on the brake pedals when parked. This is what happens when you mix reality and sims. I’m also completely lost in a Cessna without my targeting pod!
  11. Follow the checklist, not just the voice instructions. I didn’t have issues with the startup tutorial, so just try again? Never start up any airplane without holding the brakes. You can pull the emergency brake if you don’t feel like holding the brakes the whole time. It’s producing some thrust, even at idle, and the plane will roll! Make sure your boost pumps are on. That got me once or twice. If it doesn’t spool up properly, try pulling the throttle back to the cutoff, then waiting for it to come to zero RPM, then try the other engine first.
  12. I was in the same boat as you last month. I decided to buy it just based on the fact that it was highly rated and because I’m flying the A-10C. I haven’t had it long enough to provide you with the life limits of the switches. I do have kids in the house who like to play with buttons and switches all the time, so I did pay an extra $10 or so for extended warranty when I purchased from Amazon. I did receive a brand new item. Not used. They had 12 in stock last month. Price was $450. I did find one for $380 on triplenetpricing, of whom I never heard of, but after reading their terrible reviews I couldn’t trust them. They also had a 6-8 week shipping estimate for an item that was “in stock”. I bought it through Amazon, got free 2-day shipping, no taxes. It came in 1 day. I then submitted a claim through my credit card for a price-match since my CC offers that as a benefit, and they honored the $380 price. I got a $70 refund a few days later. First time I ever did that, it was awesome! I don’t have any issues with the stiction, and I think it is very smooth as is. Again, I’ve had it 1 month now. I hate the slew switch as 100% of the people do, however, it works and I’m not a die-hard gamer or competitive player, so it’s fine as is for me. I did spend about two hours researching mods and replacement switches, but it looks like I’d have to drop another $50 to $150 to replace the one switch. Doesn’t make sense for my needs. I can slew around just fine, even though it would be easier with a better switch. If you tweak your axis curves and saturations for the slew’s two axes, you’ll find that the switch is much better and not worth a mod for so much extra money. Everything else is great. It’s really heavy and doesn’t need to be bolted down. In fact, I place the throttle on a small nightstand next to my chair for a more accurate location (I fly VR), and the nightstand sometimes slips around on my floor, but never the throttle slipping on the nightstand. I don’t regret the purchase at all. It’s really great. It’s tough to find perfection in this world, and you’ll never find it in an online review. People only log in to leave reviews when they have something to complain about. I think you’ll love the product as much as I do, especially if you’re flying the hog in the sim.
  13. What’s the weather like in your mission? Perhaps a 100 kts tailwind? Probably obvious, but worth checking in case you’re playing some random mission you found online.
  14. Did you check your axis settings and make sure saturation is set to 100% ? Sounds like you just are reaching the end of the travel for the joystick axis.
  15. Thanks guys. I don’t have a favorite mission yet. I’m still new and always end up underneath a parachute if I’m lucky.
  16. I’m looking for a mission that would be good for a VR demo when letting friends try DCS in VR for their first time. I’m not good with the mission editor, so I thought I’d see if you can recommend, or create something. Requirements would be... -For the A-10C in Caucasus -Runway hot start -Starting airport close to water and mountains, so user can decide which terrain they prefer and get there quickly. -Plenty of ground targets to shoot at, stationary, and moving columns. A good mix that is suitable for guns, guided bombs, cluster bombs. (It’s all about providing various options so that each user can decide what best suits his taste) -Some ships in the water -Aerial refueling nearby -Very easy air targets to shoot down -Nothing that returns fire or fries to shoot you down (first time VR users just want to fly and have fun) -No aircraft failures set to occur -Minimize cockpit work for the first-time user (TGP and Mav EO defaulted to be on and active from startup, guns on, master arm on, etc) -Perhaps the user just wants to fly and enjoy the view, so waypoints should take you through scenic locations (along the coast, into the mountains, etc). -15-20 minute flight from takeoff to landing since VR isn’t for everyone and 15 minutes might be too long if you are prone to motion sickness. Something like this would be great, if it doesn’t already exist. Thanks a bunch.
  17. YouTube is your answer. There are several really great playlists you should add... -Ralfi’s idiot guide to DCS (by Ralfidude) -On the range tutorial series (by Bunyap Sims) Start with those. Also, lots and lots of reading... -The 600+ page manual -The A10C Guide by Chuck -DCS A-10C Expanded HOTAS Function Listing by Topgun505 All great stuff. The A-10C is a sim, not a game, so don’t expect anything to be easy. You’ll have 1 hour of flying for every 1 hour of learning...if you’re lucky.
  18. I’ve only flown VR in the A10C, until just now I tired out a 172 in XPlane. Wow what a difference in the visuals/realism. I would have to assume the A10 cockpit update is a priority. If it looked as good as I just experienced in XPlane, I may not be able to leave the house.
  19. I did not use any curves except for the awful slew switch. It’s all personal preference when it comes to curves.
  20. Hi all...if I get viacom, will it work with the free version of voiceattack, or do I need to unlock voiceattack first?
  21. See this... http://www.users.on.net/~jase_ash/http:/www.users.on.net/~jase_ash/styled-9/styled-3/index.html
  22. Above, it was mentioned that the TM Warthog has an idle detent. I’ll add that it also has an afterburner detent. The instruction manual shows you how to easily add this detent by opening up the base, flipping one piece around, then putting it back together. I haven’t flown a real hornet, but I got to spend an hour in the simulators at Miramar a few years ago and that was the first time I learned about the AB detent. I couldn’t imagine a proper sim setup without it for the Hornet.
  23. So.... can we sum it all up as follows? If you’re a simmer, go VR now! If you’re a gamer, wait for the next gen. If you have extra cash, go VR either way just to try it.
  24. I’m flying the A10. Rolling in on a target is a very cool experience. Looking out over your shoulder, keeping your eye on the target, making the turn, the nose of the aircraft slowly comes into view, then lines up with your target, then pull the trigger. What fun! I also enjoy the buttery smooth landings because I can take quick peaks over my shoulder to see exactly where the main wheel is in relation to the ground during my flare. This lets me put the wheel down on the runway much smoother than if I was just staring straight ahead at the centerline. So far, no nausea from any of the flying and maneuvers (at 45FPS). The only times I’ve been getting slight nausea only for a few brief seconds is when your taxi is over and you come to a stop your aircraft does that last moment nose dip and pop back up. It’s slight, but your brain perceives the deceleration motion and is a weird feeling. Also, off-field landings on the grass or roads (I like VR so much that I only land when I run out of fuel, lol) is a little nauseating due to the bumpy rollout. I usually just close my eyes and take quick peaks until the aircraft stops, or rolls over and explodes (which is much less nauseating). Of course, nothing to worry about if you just land on a runway. Also, external views are actually pretty cool. Sure, it’s a slight break from immersion, but it’s really awesome to just float outside your aircraft and look at it. Even pressing F6 and following your bombs to the ground is neat. Once you get your VR delivered and working. Make sure to come back and tell us what YOU think. Is it really worth it?
  25. I don’t know how it runs on Windows 7, no experience. I was also very anti-switching to 10, but I just bought a new PC (prebuilt) and all the new ones come with 10. I looked for something with Windows 7, but ended up just going with 10. Now that I have it, I’m not so anti-10. I might still like 7 better, but 10 is just fine, no regrets buying it.
