  1. Just a short reply/update: So far I had to invest quite some time to get to where Im want to be. Still not there. Its sometimes quite time-consuming to solve some problems, like to map the F12-Key to recenter TrackIR. Takes a lot of reading and trying. My VKB-Rudders are working now, but my Virpil Sidepanel (which is listed as a joystick in the OS) is not recognized by DCS (yet). But since Im right now on 2D, thats not a problem, I can see my keyboard and push the correct key anyway. TrackIR is working ok, but DCS takes only 45% input on pitch up, which is about just looking up straight. The only way up to now to circumvent this is, is by using a rather steep curvature, which has its own drawbacks. The other axes work fine. Overall ok for the A-10C Im mostly using, probably still a problem in BFM VR still is a problem. I did not manage build the WMR preset in Envision-Monado yet, due to some missing files (I guess librarys), but Ive devoted more time to solve my other issues. This will be next on my agenda. Maybe its my WMR-G2, thats also a bit problematic. My general observations after some hours of flying in DCS on Linux with TrackIR is, that it does feel ok, but not as smooth as on Windows right now. But I have to say, I tuned my Windows-DCS also to have the 90fps 99,9% of the time. Smoke is something, thats often causes stutters and also my sensitive TrackIR-Setting mentioned above makes for a lesser smoth ride. What really stands out for me, which has nothing to do with Linux, is, that TrackIR needs some getting used to again. When your are used to VR, its much harder to judge your speed, attitude and position in flight. Overall, my system right now is quite ok for the occasional DCS-pilot, that Ive become in the last two years. Still for heavy users id say, working VR is 100% required. How my setup will "survice" future updates, I dont know. Yesterdays update "coninceded" with a reinstall of DCS due to a problem with my second SSD (which did not automount) and I decided to format it again. My hopes are on Vulkan (DCS 3.0???) and the SteamFrame. The latter will be around soon, about the first Im not so positive....
  2. Hi. I now was able to install DCS on Linux anlong with TrackIR. I followed this guide. With Bazzite the installation of TrackIR failed (the system seems to block some things during the installation-process) but now with Nobara I was able to install DCS on Lutris and also TrackIR. There was no tweaking (of which Id been incapable of anyway) needed, just follow the guide and all worked. Of course, VR is the elephant in the room. But since I still have a G2, this could be a too big problem for me. I was not able to install/use my G2 on Linux (POP-OS, Bazzite) up to now at all. With Nobara I havent tried it yet and will check this out later. Still there are some things to do, like installing my VKB-Rudders or Virpil-Panel, but I hope, I will be able to do that also, but overall Im pretty happy with my progress. I did not expect to get that far.
  3. I installed Linux (Pop OS) on my PC last week. On a seperate SSD with W10 in dualboot. I tried Linux in the past, but felt, most of my programms did not work on Linux. This time I was surprised, that things work much better. It was a breeze to import my email-settings and even my niche-flightlog-programme has a Linux-version. Since I can access all my 'old' files, there is lacking little for me right now. In Steam I tested only one game up to now, but that did work perfectly. Installing Battle.net was more complicated and getting Diablo2 running even more. But now its running ok. Took quite a bit of reading and researching. Anyway, from what Im usually doing on my PC under Win10, except for DCS, right now there seem to be no compromises. Regarding DCS Im hesitant to do the switch or even give it a try. I read already quite a bit and Id be willing to give up VR, but since since TrackIR is not supported, it does not make sense right now. Also I dont have the skills to troubleshoot after every update. More learning is definitly needed in that regard. I hope once Vulkan finally arrives at DCS, the transition will be easier. My experience right now is too brief to make a conclusion, but as for my everyday use, except DCS, right now I see no reason to use Win10 for that.
  4. My G2 still working on Win10 with all updates installed.
  5. I upgraded from 32GB to 64GB (same brand DDR5-6000 CL30 with two sticks) some time ago and it did not make a difference for me. I only play SP though.
  6. Short response from my side after some testing. Even Im leaning towards AMD, since Nvidia to me just is utterly anti-consumer company (false promises (5070 has 4090 perf), fake MSRP and skyhigh prices etc) I do have a 4090 since AMD f.. up with their 7xxx generation VR-wise. At least until I got my 4090 midsummer 2023. Up to now I used MSAA 2x since DLAA was way to blurry for me. So no upscaling for me. After testing DLSS 4 as shown here, I have to admit, Ill give it a try now. First of all, there is almost no visible perf difference for me with DLSS4 Quality and my standard no-upscaling with MSAA 2x. I saw a decrease of 0,3ms frametime in my test-scenario. DLSS3 offered about 1 ms less, wich is pretty much IMO. But it all was too blurry/soft for me. But using DLSS4 now, the previous slight shimmering is gone, while still resembling sharpness of my former no-upscaling with MSAA 2x. Looking outside some objects look even sharper (using 0,8 sharpening right now) The only thing still looking worse is the radar scanning bar on the DDI in the F-18 . But this also has gotten much better then with DLSS 3. I dont assume to get problems with ghosting, since Im on 90fps on the G2 most of the time. But I will need to check that too. Anyway, DLSS4 for me offers some visible gains while up to now only showing minor drawbacks. So I will keep it on for sure. Edit: after installing the latest Nv-driver 572.47 I got problems while booting Win10. Went back to 572.16. No problems since doing that, but this still needs some monitoring I guess
  7. Im aiming for 90fps for my G2 and since the RX6950XT I was able to reach this for the most part on Caucasus and PG, but with some stutters inbetween . With the RX6950XT I had to compromise heavily on the graphics side with eg 55% OpenXR-resolution. When I got the 4090 I was able to increase graphic settings (75% OpenXRresolution, 2xMSAA, medium Textures and shadows etc) and get my desired 90fps on all maps, except over large cities. Even low over Beirut I can now do the 90fps. Now to what I want to say. If I would get the 5090, I could up the graphics even more. But I guess, if I were to compare the result with my current settings, the difference would be minor. The difference between high textues and med textures are not very big, same for clouds, etc. The most noticable difference would be high water since Im still on low and the higher visibility range maybe too. Overall the picture would get a bit sharper and detailed, with a tiny degree less shimmering. But this would never justify for me the enormous costs of the 5090, also since the CPU-limits were still there. With a higher resolution HMD this of course might be different. But since PImax proved unsuitable for me, Ill have to wait anyway. Its as in many other areas, where going from (as an example OpenXR resolution) 50% to 65% is a big difference, from 65% to 80% still an noticable one but from 80% to 95% there is hardly one difference it all, and all above renders almost no difference, why still asking for a big chuck of GPU-power. I rather set my hopes on Vulcan, which should be around the corner and which hopefully will resolve the ominous CPU-bottleneck completly. Anyway, prices are going into an insane direction IMO. Asus has an offering (Astral OC) with an pricetag of 2800$ which will translate into about 3200Euros. Thats exactly double the price, I paid for my 4090! Id rather save the money and invest that into a second (offroadcabable) motorcycle.
  8. I havnt read through all the thread, but what Im missing is the ground level, that participant consent on, for discussion. What is "stutter", was is "smooth"?? This is very subjective and many people consider someting smooth, that I do not eg. Ive be striving for smooth gameplay on my G2 ever since I had the RX6950XT. Starting from then, I tried to get to 90fps and accepted lowering the graphical settings for that. Now I have a 4090 and a 7800x3D and am close to that goal or at least within my acceptable range. I tried many thing suggested and many did not work for me. Overall I have a rather clean install of Win10 with many services disabled. As of writing this I have 2 main process (Browser, Taskmanager to check) and 41 background processes running. One thing, that reduced some of the spikes in the chart below was, setting my DDR5-6000-CL30-36-36 RAM to tightest timings in my UEFI (MSI MB). One thing, that I cant follow is the discussion over imput lag. The offerings like Nvidia Reflex are meant for gamers in fast paced games like online Firstpersonshooters, where you usually have 300+fps. DCS is too low fps for that and also our input dont need that precise as in mentioned shooters. Latency overall, as mentioned above with my thigher RAM-timings still does to have some impact. Below is a a fps and frametime-chart from Afterburner for an ~15 minute mission in an remote area of Iraq. As you can see fps is almost all the time at 90, sometimes 89. Frametimes at 11, somtimes spiking up to 35ms. This spikes occur usually, when someting happens, like an explosion. For every even minor spike I get a perceivable stutter, so to me this is not sutterfree. But within my personal exaptable range. The huge spikes at the beginnng and the end are of course because of loading the mission and closing it. It would be nice if other people could also show such a chart of their own, so I and we can understand better, what those player mean.
  9. I did the perftest without problems some time ago. But then again I use med textures. Anyway, I like the look and feel of the updated SA map. Unfortunately this came with a small perf penalty. With my settings I could achieve 90fps of my G2 most of the time with very occasional microstutters with the previous version. Those microstutters seem to have become visibly more frequent now with the updated version. Both winter and summer.
  10. Didnt read through the whole thread, only the last pieces. I guess, its not possible, but a merge with PG would be highly interesting. Other than that, right now my 1TB-DCS-SSD has only limited space, so after having purchased Afghanistan I will give it a pass. Until I encounter a weak moment, I guess and get a new SSD. Anyway, there are already enough maps, especially desert maps, IMO. [off-topic] What I really would like to see would be a Caucaus Plus map. Kind of an highly upgraded (regarding details and area) purchaseable map to the standard (free) Caucaus map. In the way as the new F-5e-upgrade.
  11. Sorry to pick your post. Its just the last. Yes 'those' guys, being overwhelmingly negativ are annoying. But the others, saying everything is good, are as annoying too. "Take my money, its ok, if I have to wait for 10 years. Its done when its done. I fully understand!" Isnt there a middleground anymore today? Just all black and white? If your only 98% with me, your an aid of the other side. Why doesnt anyone say anymore "This guy may be a moron and his conclusions are not the same as mine, but I have to admit, he is right in bringing up this or he might have a point with that"?? Back to the topic: Im sorry for the delay and I do understand the underlying reasons and appreciate your transparency, but I still hope you can deliver without too much delay. I dont want to wait forever and might put my money somewhere else.
  12. Maybe not the right place to write this, but..... I also was a brief PCL-owner. I ordered it and deliverytime was pretty fast, like 15 days, where Pimas stated 3-4weeks in the EU. When I put it on the first time, it immedeatly felt strage. It did not fit may head (was too wide), which gave me a high pressure on the forehead. But I dont want to hold this against the PCL since a thinker face-cushion would probably have resolved that. But the real problem was the image. I do not have any technical expertise, but the lenses must have been off. Looking at a landscape and rotating my head, the landscape was wallowing/distorting. Moving my head up and down also caused quite some distortions. The image overall also made me almost instantly a bit dizzy and was very different to that of my G2, which I can wear for hours without problems. Also the sweetspot was pretty soft, so when looking at the bipper in the HUD, I could not aim at a target, because I was not able to see it correctly. Strange thing is, when I reduced the IPD from my 67 to 63 and lower, this spot got sharper. But everything else around got softer and my wide nose started to hurt, because it got squeezed by the headset. Anyway, from what I could tell, the lens were somewhat off. I did not check if they were correctly seated, since if I pay quite some money for a new headset, it should be assembled correctly. Since I instantly decided to send it back because of the mentioned problems, I did not want to test too much and risk doing any damage to it. The process of sending it back was pretty straight forward and I got my money back pretty fast. Even thouhg Pimax offered me a refund for my sending costs I payed them myself, since I took a higher price parcel with right amount of insurance. When sending back I added a brief note, asking to veryfy my problems and give me some feedback. I thought, since they have to check the unit, they can give me some feedback too. But I never got an answer. Anyway, this episode caused two things for me. 1) Im now much more happy with my G2, also since the FOV of the PCL did not seems very much bigger, which was my biggest concern with the G2. Since Im an old Win10-User, I for sure will use the G2 until something (like the cable) brakes. 2) Even I have sympathy torwards Pimax, Im now even more hesitant to order from them. I was before ordering, since I had read some of the comments on reddit, but now, that I also had problems, Im (at least for now) am not willing to take the chance again.
  13. Just wanted to post a pricing-leak from moores-law-is-dead-youtubchannel to support my guesses made above. 5090 1999-2499 "with the emphasis on the higher end" 5080 1199-1499 NV as we know it at its cosumerfriendly best!
  14. Any answers to this? I also ordered on Oct 2nd...
  15. I prefer MSAA 2x over DLAA, since DLAA makes the picture very soft. But with MSAA 2x you get more aliasing. Its as always personal preference
  16. Late reply, sry. Didnt have time to test things recently. Kind of inconclusive for me. BAL seems to do better, if released too low over ORP, but not much. ORP tends to fall short. Simple solution: drop it much higher, which would be the right way to do anyway I guess. Still CCRP seems impressivly accurate (on Mk82s) and CCIP in my case does need more practice. @Dragan the 12s was meant for the TTI counter on the left of the HUD not lase-time. If you release high enough (say 20s on TTI-counter) 12s of lasetime for sure will be enough
  17. Thx for your answers, they really help. Since I cannot mark both as solution I went for the second, very long answer. Sorry Yurgon! I think I need to practice CCIP more and update my knowledge about it too. CCRP deliveries of 82s just are just so accurate, that I thought this has to be wrong. But probably its just me, making CCIP too inaccurate. @Yurgon: I follow my GBUs quite often in F6-camera and know what your talking about with the point, the bomb picks up the laser. Have to monitor that more closly in the future though. @ASAP: yes, my GBUs, when released too low, tend to land short. First they tend to dive rather steep and and when they pick up the laser, they cant reach the target any more... Anyway, thanks for your insightful answers!
  18. Hi. Just asking to check, if Im doing something wrong. Usually Im dropping bombs, freefall or laserguided alike, in CCRP-mode. Before doing so I set the SPI with the TGP and put the SPI to the closer edge of the target, so not to set the SPI behind the target. When using the Mk82, I tend to get excellent results with CCRP, much better then with CCIP. With CCRP I use some 2500-3000ft above the target and as long I get the bipper right on the ASL upon release, in most cases get a perfect hit. The strange thing for me is, that GBU-12s only hit the target, if the time-to-impact-counter on the left of the HUD is 15s or higher. I usually try to have 18s and then it works fine. But when I release the GBU-12 at say 13s (which is still higher than the ~2500ft used for the Mk82), I will probably get a miss. Im usually fireing the laser right before release. Only if Im very high, I wait until 15-18s TTI to fire the laser. If doing auto-laser I choose 15s. But using CCIP with freefall-bombs, I very often miss the target even though I only release the bomb when the bipper slips exactly over the target. Also CCIP and laserguides bombs need some hight and if released too low, Ill will get a miss. Overall, its strange to me and thus Im doing this post, that the most inaccurate way (freefall bombs in CCRP) renders better results than CCIP and if used too low (but way higher then on CCRP with freefall bombs) even better results than laserguided bombs. Am I doing something wrong?
  19. Hi. Im not up to date, but until last summer AMD 7xxx had problems in VR, meaning it underperformed quite a bit. The 6950XT I had before was fine, and I planned to upgrade to a 7900XTX. But since AMD for 9 months after the release was unable to solve their VR-problems with the 7xxx-cards, I went over to NV. Hopefully AMD has sorted those problems out by not. As I wrote Im not up to date with AMD-drivers anymore.
  20. No, Im not, even though I have one. Its also an insane offer, Id not recommend to anyone. I just wanted to caution some people thinking NV has gotten more consumerfriendly. They never were and with recent developments, which made NV briefly the most valuable Company, they for sure have not gotten modest. So Id expect pretty high prices for the upcoming 5080/5090. If you are so sure, plz put down your guess, so we can compare afterwards!
  21. My thoughts about 4090 vs 5090 or 5080. Im sure, the 5090 will surpass the 4090 by a big margin, but my guess is, the 5080 will land around the 4090 perf. But I guess NV will ask big time for a 5090 and also the 5080 will be at least where the 4080 was (~1200). Now that NV is the big fancy AI-provider for our future ( or at least Jenson thinks so) and AMD isnt competing on the top, they will ask as much as they can for their products. After all NVs friendlyness is only towards shareholders and not gamers. And why should they sell a big 5090-chip for less money, if they can ask much more in an professional product for it? My guess is 1999 for a 5090 with reduced availatbility and 1299 for the 5080. This does not make the 4090 a good product, but maybe the sanest among otherwise insane ones.
  22. Hi. I was not able to replicate that problem. I started the Falkland.miz, took off and shot down both of them Bears (1 Sparrow, 2 Sidewinders) at around 26500ft, then instantly turned to the ground and flew at 200ft about the ground. Had no framerate drop whatsoever. Have a 4090/7800x3D with a G2 with moderate settings so I almost never drop below 90fps. Anyway, it was my first kills in the F-4, since I bought it presale, but did not have the time/will to get to know it right now. Doing A-10C 99% of the time. Also like the SA-map. But unfortunatly, only a few airfields and not too many trees...
  23. From what I understand you also need a DP-cable since this is not included in the adapter-set. Also - if needed a bluetooth-adapter - if you plan to use the controllers. Can anyone comment on a performance-comparison with a Reverb G2? The resolution is a bit lower, but you have to use SteamVR, which again should cost some performance. I find the increased FOV quite appealing. Does anyone know, If you can use two headsets (but not simulaniously) on one PC? Currently my son and I share my Reverb G2 (he more than me) and changing the straps on the headset constantly is a bit annoying. Since he has a seperate user on my PC, I could uninstall/disable WMR on my user and use the PSVR2 and give the G2 entirely to my son to use.
  24. Ok, you might be right to some degree regarding Pico; I did not check this out, since it would be as I said a sidestep, which makes no sense. The other aspect ("the US [ironically] raising concerns") would be a political discussion, that has no place here.
  25. I consider this question to be rethoric. But if you have no problem with Meta, its ok for me. They are offering great products at a even better price.
