  1. Hi. Sorry for the late reply. Im using OpenBeta for VR and Stable for 2D. Both are on the latest version. Just tested this and Im witnessing those artifacts only on Stable. Setting OpenBeta to 2D and turning SSAO on, did not cause the artifacts. I also did not witness them in VR. As mentioned above unchecking SSAO solves the problem.
  2. I would like to add, that this problem still persists for me when SSAO is on. My GPU is an AMD 6800XT.
  3. Im jumping between VR and 2D recently. Came back to VR just four months ago and only with OpenXR its getting close to feel acceptable for me. Unfortunately with an AMD-Gpu motionsmoothing is a problem so Im stuck on 45fps. Even Im playing for the most part in VR now, if my wife threw my G2 into the trashcan, Id miss VR maybe only a few days and right away be happy with 2D again. VR requires top, meaning aweful expensive hardware to offer only a mediocre result. Im pretty sure the next gen GPU will help to alleviate things, but only to make higher settings possible and we will be back at square 1 pretty soon. Vulcan and multithread? My guess is 2026 at the earliest! If you want to use VR accept its many shortcomings. If you prefer 2D its fine and I really understand you. But going to a church and asking people there, what to do since your faith is vanishing, dont expect to get an unbiased answer. And for quite a few VR in many respects is like faith.
  4. For DCS I think the 'normal' 16:9 ratio is best, since widescreens dont give you enough vertical visibility. There are several widescreen offerings like the LG 38,5 3840:1600 monitors, that are interesting. But Id prefer simple 4k.
  5. I can understand Gizzy very well. Been testing VR quite a lot. Owned a Rift S, G1 and 2 (Ver 1 and 2) and an Index. Up to OpenXR found VR too much of a comprimise. With OpenXR and G2-Ver2 its somehow ok. But far from great. Graphics are now ok, but 45fps fixed are not great, although acceptable. Right now I run Open in VR and Stable in 2D. I have a 38inch 2560*1440 monitor and still enjoy 2D. Even Im mostly in VR nowadays going back to 2D is still a very positiv experience for me. With my hardware I manage 45fps with decent settings in VR, I can do 120fps on monitor with the odd CPU-related drops to 50fps. Way smoother and way better graphics. A weaker GPU to have steady 60fps with TrackIR still would be smoother than anything I witnessed on VR up to now. Only the the TrackIR-related reduced headmovement feels a bit strange now compared to VR. Right now I think Ill stay in VR for the most part. But I went from 3 months on the Rift S back to 2D for about a year. So thats not fixed at all I guess. Maybe if a 40inch curved 120Hz 4K monitor finally gets released.....
  6. Thx. Since I now have a new throttle (No 147xxx vs ~ 39xxx on the old) I will try to exchange the cable in the old one. May take some time though.
  7. Hi. Im not a technician, so plz excuse my laymans terms. A few buttons on my WH throttle are not working properly. That are (mostly) the Chinahat, then the Boatswitch, the speedbrake and the Cooliehat. Looking at the windows-gameconrolles-page, sometimes all is ok and every push of a button caused the related dot to flash red, but then again pushing one button (eg speedbrake out) causes also other button´s dots to flash. Somehow it seems those buttons influence each other. Looking a the cable inside the right Throttle-grip, they look ok. Maybe a bit twisted, but I cant see a part, where there could be a short between two cables. Since I had the TDC-mod mounted, I could have damaged a cable though. One thing, that often triggers those problems is, when I quickly pull back the throttle-grips. (Often after releasing a guided rocked in the A-10, I slow down to stay farther away while still lasing. Thats when this occures quite often) To me this could be the explaination for my problem, because the cable (7 leads) for those buttons run through the right throttle-grip and pulling the grip back, might bend a damaged cable to trigger a wrong impulse. But I cant see a damage on the cables. Maybe its under the sleeve, when its routed through the narrow lower part of the throttle-grip. I already have new throttle ordered, but I somehow think, this could be solveable. Anyone can give me advice or input on this? Thx.
  8. Plz disregard my post. I found the problem with my throttle, that is a mechanical, since sometimes (getting more often) Speedbrake, Boatswitch and Chinahat -buttons also trigger other buttons. I guess I have to get a new throttle..... Hmmmmm.
  9. Your right about the upgrade-path for AM4. But with Intel you also mostly only have two gens of processors before you need a new mainboard because the socket has changed. In that respect I would be better to wait for Ryzen 7000 on AM5, since AMD supports its sockets longer than Intel. But if you plan to keep the same system for longer without upgrading, Intel right now could be the better choice. Still DDR5 and Z690-boards are still pretty expensive.. I just recently upgraded from a 5600x to a 5800x3D since I want to keep my system for longer and the 5800x3D seems to be the top of the line for AM4. Comparing to a 5600x I can only see in select situations (SC with full deck etc) a difference. The 5600x made a big difference over my old 9600K in those situations and now the 5800x3D adds a bit more to that. Anyway, I think, now it is EDs turn to finally deliver some ugrade like multicore-support. I dont even dare say Vu..... Why should we constantly invest in hardware to have a mediocre experience in DCS (especially in VR; 2D feels much better), if ED could alleviate this situation much more by finally delivering on their promised features from way back when. BTW: my 5800x3D runs in idle pretty much as hot as my old 5600x at 30-50deg, during DCS up to 75deg (which is way hotter than the 5600x) and only reaches 90deg on prime95 26.6, where the CPU then clocks only at 4150mHz allcore. This with a minor adjustment in the cooler-curve of my Noctua D15s. Before in idle my system was practivally silent, now its only pretty quiet.
  10. Thx for the help with app_ and post_GPU. I read this (your) advices a few pages back already and it helped to optimize my settings, but there is still a big fps-gap between MR on and off. But since I cant/dont use it anyway, thats ok. And considering Svsmokey`s comment about AMDs drivers not being optimized, I guess this really should be an AMD-thing. From what Ive heard, AMD is working hard to optimize their drivers for the upcoming RDNA3-generation, which also should give the older RDNA2-gen-GPUs a boost, one that I currently have. Maybe this upcoming update also resolves some of my VR-problems... And maybe, if it holds true, that the upcoming Gen from Nvidia and AMD should have up to 120% perf gain above the 6900XT, this could also mean, that we finally could run DCS with real 90fps. But I guess, in that case we´ll use that gain to increase our videosettings, getting us back, where we are now but just with a better picture-quality....
  11. I got two questions, since I want to find out if this is related to my AMD-GPU. When I turn on MR, I get a "waterdrop-effect" in my G2, also quite noticable in the cockpit. But I also have this in SteamVR with turned on MR (WMR4SVR), especially looking at menus, text or the likes and moving my head ever so slightly. Also in SteamVR Home. In cockpit, its not noticable. If I turn MR off in WMR4SVR then there ist no such waterdrop-effect". So actually my "waterdrop"-problem seem more linked to MR than to OpenXR Do also Nvidia-Users have the same problem or are there AMD-users, that dont have this problem? Second question: When I turn on MR in OpenXR I immediatly get a hefty fps-drop. Where I had 50+fps before, I then have 27-30fps with the same settings as before. Anyone knows the reason for this? Overall IMO OpenXR is far superior to SteamVR in DCS. With STeamVR I was mostly still using 2D, but with OpenXR I for sure am more time on VR vs 2D. Thx.
  12. I can remember a "2021 and beyond" post, where they (ED) said they expect Vulcan for autuum 2021. But anyone, that has followed this topic for a longer time, knew, that chances for that were slim. I guess, thats also why ED dont state any datea anymore, except until they are really close to the release. So, considering the huge undertaking the rewrite of the whole DCS-core has to be, Id not expect too much too soon... The biggest progress, that has been made this year, was the appearance of OpenXR, which of course is no work of ED. But maybe they the properly implement this in the not too distant future. Just did a comparison between SteamVR and OpenXR and except the perf-difference and gain in clarity for me is huge. Only MR, that still is not great (for me at least).
  13. I guess I got one G2 Gen2, out since March this year main difference being the facegasket and the newer AMD-compatible cable. Having an all AMD-system compatibility is good. Had lots of problems with a RiftS and G1. Now I have maybe only occasional problems when starting WMR. But I guess only if I start WMR too fast after bootup. The gasket gives a clearly better FOV, but still quite a bit less than the Index. I removed the spacer right away and never have tried it again since. Being critical of VR in DCS for a long time, the G2 with OpenXR for me finally made VR have more pros than cons compared to TrackIR/monitor. Still using both though. If I could make a wish for the G3 features, Id like an Index-FOV with a larger sweetspot. Id be ok with the rest staying the same. Not gonna buy an Aero since they dont support AMD. VivePro2 seems a too small step for me right now. With the G2 right now I guess I can live quite well for the forthcoming time feeling no need to upgrade.
  14. Hi. One question: Im running stableDCS (openBeta still on TrackIR) without MR and fps capped to 46 (with RadeonChill) and find it very ok. Not really smooth, but more than just bearable. The most stutter I encounter in the main-menu moving my head from side to side. Anyway, with these settings VR is quite enjoyable. When turning off RadeionChill my fps go up considerabley, usually 60+ in not too demanding areas and also 80 looking to the sky. But then I tried again turning MR on (in OpenXR DevTools; I dont use the toolkit) and my fps went down to ~30! And also still have those unwanted "waterdropeffects" quite often. Is MR oveloading my CPU, since if the GPU in most situations can render 45+fps why shouldnt it also witlh MR on? But I have a 5600x, which always seemed potent. Under SteamVR fpsVR always showed CPU-framtimes of 10ms or the likes. Anyone got the same problems with MR or has a solution for this? Oh, one more question: I dont have HAGS in my graphic settings so I can tell, if this setting might mess things up; but when I still had it, I for sure turned it off. Using Win10.
  15. Yes, tried it. Just can say unconclusiv. Dont really witness a difference.
  16. Made the 'upgrade' from 0.63 yesterday. Doing so I also tried to get my system to run at 90fps by disabling everything, but did not get the 90 consistently. Overall when below 90, even at 80fps it felt quite stuttery. My chill-induced 46fps (46 feels better then 45 for me) feel much better. Still I never would call 45fps smooth. I have lots of ghosting looking to the sides. And its way worse then 60 fps in nauseating 60Hz-mode. Still even at 45fps this is the first time in DCS, where I dont prefer 60-fps-TrachIR/monitor over VR. If they manage to implement a well working MR I could finally switch to VR completly.
  17. Hi. Im having problems with the chinahat doing strange things (going to LSS in the A-10c out of the blue or upon a sudden move of the throttle). Also Boatswitch not behaving properly. Going to WinGamecontrollers (where the buttons did not work correctly either) and resetting them to 'standard' has solved it for me up to now. Still Im not sure, if this is a mechanical problem, since the gear-button (gear-warning) definitly is broken. Not using Target-software. Just standard Windows-drivers. Only about 500, maybe 750 hrs at most on the throttle.. Any suggestions of how to check the chinahat and boatswitch? I guess opening the throttle and checking the cables would be the first step....
  18. Hi. Tried that already and it did not work for me. Also when I restarted the PC, it was as it was before. Thx
  19. Just a question for understanding. Im having MR off and using Radeo Chill to keep my fps to 45. With my settings I can achieve that quite well and strangely with fixed 45fps it feels smoother than with variable fps around 50-60. Most noticeable this is when I move my head sidewards to the left or right while looking forward. But while moving the picture gets slightly blurry for that time. Same for looking at my 3/9. As long my system can keep the 45 its a bit blurry, but kind of smooth. But once it goes down to say 43 the whole picture gets jumpy. The reason why at 45fps it feels smoother is, because its half refresh rate of my G2? Or because the framerate is fixed and not changing all the time? I havent tried this yet, but I assume having higher fixed fps with Chil (say 60fps) will not feel as smooth as 45fps. MR right now is no option for me, because the picture looks strange like having larger raindrops on my lens. Im still using mainly TrackIR. But since I have a G2 for simracing, Id like to make this work (Im testing in stable DCS), since with this mod for me VR in DCS for the first time seems nice. Even the image quality on monitor is still far supirior and fixed 60fps feel much smoother than anything I had in VR. Edit: I just found the answer to my question regarding 45fps in a post a few pages back.
  20. I dont want DLSS. It might be great, but its only for one group and cutting out another. Which btw is probably intentional from Nvidia. Id prefer things like FSR (2.0), that are open to everyone. Even if DLSS is better. Maybe, if AMD and Intel can gain considerablly more market-share, this discussion could be over soon anyway.
  21. So, I recently I did not fly DCS at all, but when I saw this thread I had to try it. Im running OpenBeta with TrackIR and for testing purposes Stable with VR (G2). For me going to OpenXR the difference is massiv. Almost all of the shimmering inside the cockpit and much of the ouside has gone. And the shimmering was the worst thing, that put me off going to VR. Clarity is also greatly improved for me. Performance seems to be a bit better, but not much. It seems now my GPU (AMD 6700XT) seems to get utiziled at close to 100%, while in SteamVR I often had "drops" to 20% and fps-drops to 30 or below, even I had constant 15ms GPU-frametimes, even lower CPU-frametimes and GPUMem with only filled up to 80%. Flying felt ok, but the MR (in SteamVR-mode via WMRforSteam-settings) felt smoother (when at 45fps). I tried MR, but that hat the mentioned artifacts and fps went down also. With my lowish settings (50% rendering but 4x MSAA) I managed to get around 50fps, often 60fps. In 60Hz-mode it was the smoothest experience in VR that I had in DCS up to now. But since the 60Hz-mode gives me a headache and nausia, this is not practical for me. So my conclusion for this first test would be, if I had a 6900XT Id probably change to VR right away. But since I dont want to buy another GPU, especially so close to the release of the next generation (RDNA3 is supposed to more than dobule 6900XT perf), Ill still have to wait. But things regardling VR in DCS look much brigher for me right now, than they did before my OpenXR-test.
  22. Youre probably right about the multicore-support. I did some more tests, which in DCS are sometimes pretty hard, since if you change someting, it often will not get applied after the restart. Cleaning FXO and METASHADER did not help me in the past too often, so I dont use it. What I found was, when going to "force DX11" my GPU-usage went up to 95-98% (which means 50-70fps with my lowish settings), so where it is supposed to be. But turning on motionvector again, this changed. Of course the GPU was not fully utilized when the cap of 45fps was reached, but also below 45fps utilizations was not maxed. Still the drops were not as bad as in DX12. But since DX11 is visibly blurrier, I dont want to use it. Going back to DX12 with no motionvector, I often had drops below 30fps und GPU-utilizations sometimes briefly down to 25%. For the most part I had 70-80%. These findings to me seem to point the finger towards DCS and its somehow imperfect (some might say poor) implementation of VR. Since other people with 3070s also have this sitiuation at least does not support my thoghts, that it might be related to AMD-hardware. I just think (as this was mentioned often before by better informed people than me) that VR-DCS cant use some hardware to its full potential. Maybe people with 3090, that have a higher bandwith and more computeunits, dont witniss this problem. But Im not willing to pay the prices asked for those GPUs. So for me in the end its simple. Ill stay in 2D until the new engine (Vulcan) maybe can cure some of the problems DCS has in VR and will use my Reberb only for occasional jumps into VR in DCS. Also putting my hopes into the upcoming (dont know when though) Valve-headset. I saw a video, where it was mentioned, that Valve work on split rendering, which could mean, that the headset with its own chip, could support the GPU, which again could mean, that finally higher fps (monitorlike settings) in DCs-VR could be possible.
  23. Thx for your input. I also tested this with another game and also my GPU was not maxed most of the time. But since this affects also Nvidia-GPUs its probably not an AMD-thing, but more likely the implementation of VR in DCS or VR in general. Still this raised the question for me, what an GPU-upgrade in VR is worth? Spending an extra 800e (over the resale-value of my current 6700) to have the new GPU run at 75% on average with still mediocre settings (compard to my monitor-settings right now) does not make any sense to me. Anyway, I guess I will have to accept this. Which actually isnt a real problem, since Im still mostly on Monitor/TrackIR and will stay there until the next gen of headsets comes along. Too much tweaking to get a still poor result for me.
  24. Hi. Thx for the advice. Running at 60fps makes (in my case) for a more pleasent ride. But my overall problem still exists. Even my CPU and GPU frametimes are low (eg 10ms CPU and 15ms GPU) I have drops below 45fps when in 90hz-mode with GPU-utilization only at eg 70%.. Had the same with 60Hz using a bit higher video settings. To my understanding when in motion reprojection, if the GPU is able to render 45fps, it will "stop" there, so there might be lower GPU-utilization. But once below the 45fps the GPU should work at ~100% to get as many fps as possible, if the CPU is able to keep up, which in my case it is. Still I often have 35fps AND 70% GPU-utilization. The CPU cant be the bottleneck, since as stated before I usually have around 10-15ms CPU-frametimes (in normal situations) and in my understanding everyting up to ~22ms CPU-frametimes should not bottleneck the GPU. With 60fps its the same, but the GPU-frametimes are different since I then increased the videosettings. Is there another potential bottleneck, that could restrain my system? Could a damaged cable to the headset (audio often has dissconections, so video could be problematic too) be the reason? Thx
  25. Hi. There are quite a few photos around where people eg with a cable tie fixed the connector to the halo on the strap. Also then will probably remove the clip since this seems to create a point of high strain to the cable. But right now until I have sorted out my concerns with the seller, Ill leave it in the way I got it.
