  1. Maybe youre right. I reseated the plug into the HMD and for now I have not witness this again. I will keep my eyes on this. Thx.
  2. Short question. Anyone got flickering since the last update? The native OpenXR-support worked for me for two days without problems, but yesterday my HMD started flickering in the main-menu. When clicking on instantAction, one eye of my HMD started going grey for a moment and back to normal at high pace. Sometimes both eyes started to flicker and then only the other eye did flicker. I did a mission and there it did not happen. strange. Tried then another VR-game and that worked without a problem, so my HMD is not broken.
  3. I also had my link in the startmenu to DCSupdater.exe. I changed the link to DCS.exe and added --force_enable_VR --force_OpenXR. Then it worked.
  4. Got one question: Ever since the OpenXR-solution appeared in (wasit? ) spring, reprojection on AMD gpus war pretty poor and not bearable for me. My retests on the weekend did not show an improvement for me. In OpenXR there still lots of "raindrops" on my visor. SteamVR has those also, but to a much lower extent, so it is actually acceptable. But SteamVR has other problems. Now, it was always written, that those reprojections issues will be resolved. But I somehow guess, that is more a problem of AMD and they would need to resolve it. Is there any news, if or when those reprojection-problems for AMD-gpus will be fixed? Since it has not been resolved yet, my guess is, that this is not that easy to solve anyway.
  5. Hi. I have a 5800x3d on a D15S. I just did some testing. 10 mins of looped CinebechR23 multithread. MaxTemp was about 75degC. The fan of the Cooler only spun up to 1050rpm. Normally in idle I can see 30-45 degC. I need to add though, that my rig is in the basement, where I usually only have about 16-18degC.
  6. Nvidia-Cards in the last two years never have reached the claimed MSRP except for the FE-editions. Even today 3070s and also 3080s (that already have a successor) are still 100e north of the MSRP. Some leakers say, that this was intented all along by Nvidia, since they charged boardparners so much for the materials, that those could not afford to sell them close to MSRP. Some call that fake-MSRP. But still Im quite optimistic, that thing could become better again. Seeing, that overpriced 4080, 3070TI and 7900XT do not sell well, might force Nvidia, AMD AND the dealers to lower prices. It seems many consumers are not willing to pay the inflated prices of the last two years. Unfortunately the board-partners 7900XTXs have not yet reached the MRSP of the card offered on amd.com, which in Euros is about 1120,- right now. But some 7900XTs are already below the amd.com (MSRP) prices and also the 4080 is already dropped quite a lot (some even 50e below MSRP). Also 4080 FE-cards are obviously in stock, what never has been the case in the period of shortages. I think the 4080 should be 900 the 4070TI 700 the 7900XTX 850 and the 7900XT 700 (and renamed 6800XT). Hopefully consumers and the (maybe coming) recession can force manufacturers to lower their price to that level.
  7. Thats a thing, Id also am interested in.
  8. Thx for the valuable info.
  9. Has anyone tested the 7900xtx here or is it all pure speculation? My 6800xt is working well in VR. Dont know what my experience would be on a (compareable NV) 3080 though. Last Nvidia gpu I owned was a 2070S. But I dont know, why a 7900 should work worse than my 6800xt? Yrs, Amd did not deliver the promised 50+% uplift across all games over the 6950, but isnt 40% more fps fine too? Im not here to defend Amd and probably would (to be on the safe side) recommend Nvidia to a friend, but many answers here seem to just repeat old stereotyps with no personal experience.... Other than compatibiliy (Varjo, Pimax?), what would change for me going to Nvidia? Only I could think of is better reprojection. BTW: Im not gonna give Nvidia 1400e for a product that cost 700e (at least should have according to Nvidia) last gen.
  10. Got one question regarding shadows. Is it normal, that rotating vour head changes the shadows? Eg, while taxxing on the taxiway with (flat from the low sun) shadows and passing an object giving a shadow, when I turn my head, often the edges of the shadow jump to another place, often lighting the taxiway in front of me, while before (or when I turn my head back to what it was before) they were in the shadow. Also the shadow of my plane on the ground often looks strange since they often represent only part of the plane. Once just front part, then another part, then the whole plane again. Very strange. Other than that I think shadows are essential since the make everything much more realistic. And since they need to be rendered, they require resources. Often when people complain about a perf hit with a new patch, we often also get someting new, which requires more resources. As long as one can turn them off (if need for perf balancing), Im ok with this. We all want DCS to look better and better and maybe one day have no visual difference between DCS and real life...
  11. As I wrote above, Im still using 22.3 driver. Tested all more recent (recommended and optional) drivers and all had (micro) stutters, whereas 22.3 didnt have them. Tested 22.11 for a few days now, but went back to 22.3 once more for the same reason. I was hoping 7900XTX, which should double my 6800XTs fps, could resolve the need for capping fps to 45/47fps or using reprojection for me. But then Id have to upgrade my drivers. If those would also with the newer GPU have to micro-stutters, that would be very annoying. Since there seems to be no progress in AMD-divers with regards to VR, I will for sure hold off buying a new GPU. Nvidia is aksing unjustified high prices and AMD only offers poor VR-compatibility. Might as well stay with what I have.
  12. I went from a 5600x to a 5800x3d. In some scenarios I now have visibly increased fps. I dont agree that an upgrade does not help, since DCS is often CPU-limited. No matter if in 2D or VR. But the question is, if the upgrade is worth it. Now that ED officially stated, multithreading or from what I understood dual-threading is close by, I highly doubt that.
  13. The 6800XT has 72CUs versus the 6900XTs 80CUs. Cost 649 vs 999. Rather big difference. Now the 7900XT has 84CUs versus the 7900XTXs 96CUs. Prices are 899 vs 999. Rather small difference. I do not like Nvidia for doing all kinds of shady things like launching a 4080 12GB, that is actually a 4070 and asking for a 400$ premium over the 3070. Luckily that model was cancelled. But AMD is not so much better. IMO the 7900XT should have been the 7800XT and cost 699. But they called it the 7900XT so they could charge more. This way the price of the 7900XTX seems even more reasonable. Still 999 or better 1200Euros in my country is way too expensive. I was planning to upgrade my 6800XT to one of those GPUS and even upgraded my PSU to a 1000W one to be prepared. Was a stupid decision since the 7900XT draws the same power as my 6800XT. But considering that DCS still is pretty much CPU-bound, not even a 4090TI/7950XTX will give you real 90fps for the G2 in most situations. So Id be still stuck at 45fps in OpenXR but could use higher visual settings, when Im already quite happy with my current settings. So until multithread gets finally implemented, I will wait. Its just a waste of money for me. But if we finally -with the CPU-bottleneck removed - could get to real 90fps, I guess Id swallow those 1200Euros too.
  14. I had no 3, so damaged files found and repaired but nevertheless DCS 2.8 crashed again.
  15. Just wanted to add a thing to my earlier post from today, when I posted here that I have some crashes since the update to 2.8, because it only happened in OpenXR. I now also had a crash in SVR when testing, so this is not related to OpenXR. Already sent three crash-reports today.... Still OpenXR is way better IMO than SVR.
  16. Since Im experiencing some brief freezes (<1s with partly black screens) since 2.8 I "restested" SVR again. For me its still far worse than OpenXR. With the same settings, OpenXR looks IMO a bit better (less aliasing) but offers much more fps. But - I assume - this could be due to using an AMD-GPU (6800XT) in my system. It seems AMD-Gpus dont get utilized fully when using MR/Repro. In fpsVR I always had only ~70% GPU-utilization with Repro on. For me the best mode is OpenXR with Repro off and RadeonChill capping fps to 47fps. This way the image looks reasonably smooth, but I do get ghosting with objects that move fast like a passing aircraft or objects when flying over them. But thats acceptable for me. When testing SVR I did not have those new 2.8 freezes. Testing OpenXR after that did show no freezes for a few minutes. But at the first freeze DCS overall crashed. Need to restest this though more thorougly. In short: OpenXR for me still is the best compromise for VR in DCS. If you decide on a GPU for DCS Id prefer Nvidia. Its just a personal thing, that I do not want to use Nvidia and since there is only one real alternative right now... 2.8 for me right now is causing problems. I will have to watch this and maybe have to revert to 2.7.
  17. Looking at the pics it seems like the CPU is holding back the GPU. So my guess would be, that in scenarios with low CPU-load, one will get a decent uplift in fps, but in scenarios with high CPU-demand the 4090 could perform the same as a 3090. Having invested so much money, Id be quite unhappy, still being stuck at/around 60fps. But using motionsmoothing, 60fps would still mean 45fps since 90 is too far away. Of courese if you have 90Hz HMD. Anyway, this is one more reason, that multi-thread-support should be releasing as soon as possible!
  18. Not yet. But I had the AI very often mess with the wingman on landing before. Often they jump up and down. But this time it looked like the wingman was on a kamikaze-trip....
  19. I own an AMD-GPU and am not a friend of Nvidia for its shady practices, like taking a 4070 renaming it 480 12G and charging 80% more than last generation. But if I had to recommend a GPU to a friend playing only DCS in VR Id probably recommend a Nvidia-GPU. For sure not a 4080 12G and probably not a 4080 16G too. The 12G should in DCS be around a 3090/3090TI with much less RAM, which some say is important for VR. And the 16G could be 30% faster than a 3090/3090Ti, but in that case a new or used 3090 would be much more cost-effectiv I guess. Or if you have the money 70% better perf with the 4090 for sure is interesting. But I guess until the CPU-bottleneck is resolved, 70% more GPU-perf will result in maybe 40% acutal gain, since the rest is CPU-limited. Maybe Im even a bit optimistic with the 40%. Nevertheless, everybody has to decide, whats its worth for him to invest a lot more money to get only slight increases in some areas. The 3090, even the 3080 for sure are good enough to offer a decent experience in VR. Im mostly playing in VR (OpenXR) and was planning to upgrade my AMD 6800XT to a 7800XT or 7900XT later this year. But since Im quite happy with my current setup, I decided to wait until next year at least. Im pretty sure, my A-10C-missions would not feel noticably different with a newer and stronger GPU.
  20. Just had the wierdest fail IMO. Just did the third mission in the Campaign (night JTAC-mission) and upon landing in full landing-configuration (last leg) at Vaziani, my wingman/supervisor came very close to my aircraft, flew alongside of me for a while and then turned into me! I was able to see this and tried to avoid a collision, which was not possible. So I crashed a few 100m from the runway and failed the mission! Overall Im not very pleased right now with this campaign. I will maybe later elaborate on this. Right now I dont think its lack of skill on my side...
  21. Yes, your right. I did that also in the past. And its for sure the better way. I just mentioned this scenario, because in this I found the difference in drivers and the thing with the 47fps. Anyway: what I forgot to mention is, that Im rather conservative with my settings and could go much higher with SS than the 65%. But this way, above the trees in caucasus I still have 47fps. Only on Marianas and over Beirut, I get some stuttering.
  22. First thing is, if you need a new system now (as of tomorrow) or can wait some time. Ryzen 7000 is not out yet, though should be end of the month. Intels Raptorlake 13th gen should come about a month later. If I had some time, Id opt for a 7600x in two weeks and upgrade to a 7800x3D early next year if needed. The second gen V-Cache models (7800x3D eg) should give up to 30% uplift according to some sources. This chip could even beat Raptorlake in gaming perf. Obvious advantage is the new AM5 plattform and better future support. And you will have to buy DDR5 memory anyway in the future, though maybe than for a possibly cheaper price. But if you need a system now Id think of getting a Intel-LGA1700 MB with 12700 or 12900 which are great CPUs. Or get a cheaper i5-12400 now and than upgrade to a 13700 or 13900 when they are available. This way you could keep the DDR4 Ram but also would need a new board for DDR5 later. Not sure what you can get for a used 12400 though when upgrading. With a 5800x3D on B550 or X570 you could also use your RAM. Gaming performance could be close or compareable to non-V-Cache-Ryzen 7000. Its really unlucky twice, that your system broke and also broke now. In 2 months time things would be much clearer and easier to decide. Best would be that ED finally would implement multithread support. Then a 5600x or 12600 would be easily enough.....
  23. Hi. Just wanted to post my "recipe" here. Im a G2 owner. Im using a 6800XT, that I oc-ed slightly (6% gain), which puts my card just around a stock 6900XT, that according to most reviews is about 8% faster than the 6800XT. This way, Im actually quite happy, considering Im struggling (badly) with VR since the RiftS, that was my first VR-set. Only recently I made the final swith to VR over from 2D. - Im using OpenXR; right now I dont even have SteamVR installed, since Im using VR only with DCS. - my target is constant 45fps since Motionsmoothing did not work ok for me (I guess thats AMD related); but since RadeonChill does seem to have some overhead, putting the limits (both min and max in RadeonChill) to 47fps is just right for me. When at 45 or 46 there is still some stutter, but once I set 47fps its gone. Only when I drop below those 47fps, stutter starts again. So even if 46fps is indicated, I can see those "jumps" every second for so. - Im using Radeon-Driver 22.3 since 22.5 or 22.8 (right now optonal) introduced some stutter again for me. - to achieve those constat 47fps, Ive set my resolution in OpenXR Tools to only 65% with MSAA at 2x and textures at medium, terrain at high, shadows at low and default and clouds at standard. I could go to 75% or 80% also but the difference compared to 65% is tiny IMO but there are less situations where I drop below 47fps. Turing off MSAA lets me increase the resolution by about 15-20% so 85% seems ok, but I prefer the slightly reduced aliasing/shimmering of MSAAx2. - I could do some finetuning with some settings likes trees, flat terrain-shadows, FSR etc, but overall this would only give me a very slight bump, probalby as much as 5% decreas in resolution. And since Im quite happy right now, I will skip that. DCS-VR is way too much time invested in tuning anyway. With constant 47fps gameplay feels quite smooth. Looking for it one of course can see that 47fps aint smooth, best visiable when doing a quick bank-up. But I started gaming in the early 90ies, where 25fps was considered smooth... I was considering getting right away the next gen AMD-GPUs when they are available, since the 7900XT should be around 100% above the 6900XT, so this would give me the desired 90fps with my current settings. But right now, Im not sure, if there is a need for it, since as I stated before during gameplay its not overly noticable. The only reason to get a new GPU as soon as possible would be the fear, that the situation around the island, where most of the chips are produced, turn much worse.... But I try to stay optimistic and will wait for the prices to settle some time after the launch, most probably after christmas. Just to add: I use the Syria-F-18-freeflight mission to tune my settings. Once started I immedeatly push BALT-AP and therefore get a repeatable scenario. With my settings I just scratch the mentioned 47fps at the town on the right 1 Min into the fight. But of course there are many options for this.
  24. Wondering, when this thread gets a "sticky". It would be long, helpful and relevant enough IMO. Not sure though, if ED are willing to promote a mod.
  25. Just wanted to report, that yesterday I did a fresh setup of my PC-OS (Win 10). Have not installed Steam (and SteamVR) yet, but was able to get DCS in VR running only with OpenXR. Since I dont use Steam too much anyway, Ill keep it that way for now.
