  1. Great mission Great mission. Flew it last night. I got one question though: Do I have to put the bipper excatly onto the target? Just asking since the GBUs are laserguided anyway and I had four out of four hits. On the Hornet communication with JTAC is a bit different...Only wasted one Sidewinder on a helicopter because I shot it too early I guess. But one got shot down by the ground-units anyway, so no need to switch to the Sparrow. When flying back to the boat I used time acceleration up to about 20 miles from the boat (up to maybe 10 times) and I saw a big drop in fps down to 5-7fps, which is way less than what I usually get. Still, it did not brake the mission. I found two minor flaws though. After landing, my wingman rolled through the static planes on the ship and.... one F/A-18 landed on the Tawara! See pic! :-) Obviously one had already landed there, since it was parked on the stern.
  2. Ok, thx. I went for a 2070super, since I wanted a different chip and was not willing to invest that much into an 2080Ti. The 2070S worked flawlessly up to now and I dont have a reason to expect it differently. Having 5fps less (compared to 2080S) is also not a problem for me right now. But lets wait until I jump onto the VR-wagon!
  3. Hi. Is there any final conclusion to this problem? Was it the video-card or just the drivers? I also had the 2080Super from Zotac (Twin-fan) with the same Problems and sent it back after two days. Im pretty sure, that it was not a power-related issue since my card (because of Vsync) was always running at only 70-90%. Overall System power-draw in DCS was about 250-270W whereas in 3Dmark it went up to ~380W. So DCS wasnt stressing my system enough to get power-related issues.
  4. Hi. Celerons are good for webbrowsing and standard-use but not for DCS, but even some I3s (like 8350K or 9350K) are great for DCS (as of now) since only good single-threaded performance is required. But I guess, those owning a i9-9900 dont want to hear that. :smilewink: My thought, when opening this thread was, that Ive invested quite a bit into hardware, but the overall experience only got better a bit. Its all a very personal thing, but I stopped (mostly) using Afterburner since it dont matter, if I have 45 or 75 or 115 fps if it feels ok to me. Its not about fps, its about personal experience. And for me, even my fps doubled from FHD to QWHD, the experience now is in no relation to the investment. As I wrote above, big investment, little actual gain. On one dicussion RTX2080 vs RTX2080Ti, some people argued that the 700+ euros/dollar investment gave them overall 8fps more and it was worth it........ I not sure, if those people if blindly testing two systems with 8fps difference, could tell them apart! My intention was not to tell people not to upgrade (or that expensive hardware is not great), but to tell people irritated by seeing, what other peoples hardware is (like it was for me 10 months ago), that also rather cheap hardware can achieve a good experience. And as written above, that i5-3570 with an RX570 also did it for me. Even I like my new system and am happy with it. Still Id never not use a SSD again. DCS from a HDD is truely painful!
  5. I had the odd problem twice, that after starting a mission neither the stick and the throttle, but also the keyboard (esc-key eg) did not respond. I then did Crtl-Alt-Del which brought me to the Windows-taskmanager, where I did nothing but close it again. Then it all worked again. In my case for sure something software related. But since it happend only twice and was easily resolvable I did not dig deeper into the problem.
  6. Sorry for my late answer. I did not find no solution and gave back the card. I now have a 2070Super from Gigabyte and have no problems.
  7. Hi. Your actually right. The wording in the title was wrong.... Since I bought/upgraded my PC soley for DCS (I play the odd PC-Game once in a while, but that was ok with my Laptop too) I considered the Hardware-costs as "DCS-costs". My actuall DCS-costs as of now are "only" 300 Euros, but Im expecting for this to rise with the arrival of newer maps and modules. I dont have a problem with that. What I meant to say was, that DCS if not played in VR, does not need ultra-high equipment to be enjoyable. Of course 35fps for someone is enjoyable, for other not. Having better equipment does make a difference, but overall enjoyment of DCS does not rise drastically over a well-selected 500-Euros-system, at least in my experience. @WinterH I can only speak for the equipment I had/have, but right now I think a 4-core-CPU is enough for DCS. Since 5xxx and 6xxx series from Intel did not offer (big) performance-gains, Id say a I5 from 4xxx or even a higher 3xxx series still does ok. If you compare CPU go for single-thread-Benchmarks, since DCS still dont use many CPU-cores. Regarding GPU, I cannot comment on GTX 770 etc, but I know, that 1060s are on sale for 100-150 Euros; I sold my RX 570 for 80,- Euros, which is faster than a 1050Ti. But if the GTX770 is faster than the 1050Ti, then I could be ok. I cannot say, what your "threshold" is, but the I5-3570/RX579/SSD-combo did it for me quite well in FHD, thats why I recommended a bit faster I5-4570/1060/SSD-combo to satisfy a bit higher expectations than mine.
  8. I wanted to write this quite some time now, so here it is: I came into DCS by stumbeling over a Heatblur-F-14-Clip about one year ago. By that time I had a Laptop with a Gefore 940MX which allowed me to fly DCS in 1024-768 at 15fps.... Since I was not sure, how my future in DCS would turn out, I then bought some used stuff (I5-3570, RX570 and a 27inch-FHD-monitor along with Saitek X52 and a TrackIR4 for about 500 Euros. Im not talking about the DCS-modules I purchased here though. That gave me decent 35-45 fps in medium to high settings and the realization, that DCS and I could have a good future. Slowly I upgraded my system, first adding a 1660Ti, then totally new PC (see below) and went for a 32 Inch WQHD-Monitor, new Joystick and so on. Overall I spent about 2000 Euros on the new setup. I even considered a 2080Ti, that I rejected for the very reason of this post. Big investment vs little gain in overall experience. I now have something like 70-90 fps in 2560x1440 in highest settings (exept for SS). I cant say, that having this new setup did change my overall experience big time. Yes, the improvements might be nice, but actually I dont think, they make a considerable difference. Getting the newer CPU made a difference in fps, but going from FHD to QWHD and from the 1660Ti to the 2070S, were much smaller than expected. So to anyone getting frustrated looking at the specs of peoples PCs on this forum (especially of those in the VR-section), you dont have to be. When choosen carefully a kit for 500 Euros will deliver 95% of the enjoyment, most of the high spec PCs are offering.... When upgrading the videocard I also had the step to VR in mind. But giving the Rift S a try, I have to say, it was nice, but far from overwhelming for me, so I kind of postponed that a bit and will wait, how the newer sets like Vive Cosmos or Acer OJO will turn out. But actually Im quite happy with my current state and am not sure, if I shold make the step to VR anyway..... But coming back to my initial thought: if you have little money, get a I5-4570, a SSD and a 1060 with 6GB and youll be fine for FHD. But if you have the money for course, buy what you want... But dont be fooled thinking, paying 4-6 times as much will give you a much better experience...
  9. OB I will not buy the F-16 for now. But thats mostly since it cant be landed on an carrier and Im busy getting somewhere close to mastering the Tomcat and Hornet. Im more waiting for new maps and the Supercarrier and maybe a A-6/A-7/F-4... About the updates not being released until F-16 release, I actually dont care, since except for a few crashes in the first week flying the Tomcat, I had no problems with OB at all. Except maybe for a strange problem (ocurred twice in the last weeks), where after starting a mission/flight no controls did respond (joystick; keyboard...) Only Ctrl-Alt-Del brought me the the task-Manager, but on exiting it, all was good again.. But once I get bored with all those naval aircraft, the F-16 seems like an interesting option. And waiting for some special discount like Christmas etc its probably going to be cheaper than the current preorder-price too....
  10. Ojo Hi. The Ojo, that was released (in Malaysia) was the smaller-spec Ojo 500 (2x 1440x1440). As of now, Ojo 500 is also available in the german Acer-store. That was not the case 2 weeks ago. So maybe they released it by now. With one year delay..... The announced Ojo ConceptD will not be released in Germany, at least for the near future. That dont mean, that it will not come out elsewhere. Because of is IPD-adjustment, I was waiting for the Ojo ConceptD. Cosmos (even with lower resolution) also is interesting for me for its IPD-adjustment. But from one hand-on-review Ive seen, the sweet-spot should be also rather small. I guess we will have to wait for some real reviews to come out...
  11. Hi. The map is actually smaller than other maps. I often fly there with the Tomcat. With the Hornet I tend to have problems with landing, since the runsways are a bit short and the brakes of the Hornet are, well, ....... You need to be very precise Id say. I think, there are only two concrete-runsways (on the french side), the rest is plain soil, but that does not make a difference actually. Even the map is often criticized for its poor performance low down and the shimmering of the treea, I do like it quite much, since the scenery is very nice, especially when the sun is low. The shimmering can be avoided by going to 2x Supersampling (1,5 wont do for me), but for that you need a strong video card.
  12. Hi. Can anyone actually buy the Consumer-version?? I contacted HPs german consumer-relations and ask, when the consumer-Reverb will be available but did not even get an answer. If they dont bother sending me a quick response, why should I bother buying a Reverb???
  13. Id second wormeatens advice. But the RTX2080Super is only about 5% or 2fps faster than the 1080Ti, so that would be not a good Investment.
  14. Even if its only say 70% done, there is still a lot to learn to master the current options. Also depends of previous experience. And its very playable right now, at least for my standards; never had programme-crashes etc; and if all things, the are still in line would be available tomorrow, this would be actually too overwhelming for me. So its good for me, thats things are coming out one piece at a time. One thing, I would consider though is, the (for me) "synthectic" FBW-behaviour. Its nice, that you can yank the stick as you like but I very much prefer the feel of the Tomcat, which than can get very tricky again... Still overall a great and enjoyable plane. Id wait for the next discount on DCS (like 25% off in early Summer) and then go for it.
  15. In Stock Hi. Ive waited for the Rudders to be available for about two months now. I also used the "notify me"-button. Today I checked the store and finally they are on stock again! My order is already placed! If you dont want to wait for a long time again, I suggest to order fast... BTW: the notify-email has not arrived yet.... Hopefully soon I can go back to flying the Tomcat again. Tomcat without rudders is just no fun....
  16. Hi. Im pretty sure, that this thread will be moved. But since Im not sure, where to, so I just post it here. Has anybody experienced problems with an RTX 2080 Super? Especially with V-Sync? I bought one (Zotac Twin Fan) but sent it back today. Problem was, that I had recurring black screens. I did not find out exactly why, but my assumption (that I was only able to verify 3 out of 4 times) is, that V-Sync was the culprit. Without it I think (not 100% sure though) I had no black-screens, but with V-Sync turned on I had maye 2 black screen in 1 hour of flying... Since the fps with the RTX 2080S were in the 60-90ies, V-sync wasnt needed anyway, but it was a setting I failed to uncheck, when coming from my older 1660Ti, where I have 40-70fps with very slightly reduced settings (actually only 2x instead of 4x MSAA and ultra instead of extreme visib range). Since I was not 100% sure, that the card was not faulty, I sent it back. But now Im not sure, if going to a RTX2080Super (or older RTX2080) from another manufacturer will also create the same situation. Actually I bought this videocard to support my future VR-set, but since Im not sure about what set to buy right now anyway (Reverb? Index? Cosmos?) I now tend to postpone the whole VR-situation until next year, when Nvidia releases new hardware; also since my 1660Ti actually supports my 1440p-monitor quite well and the use of the much more powerful RTX2080 did not give a gain in the flying-experience. Answers from any RTX-card-users would be welcome.
  17. Is one base station enough for head-tracking?
  18. I know, that the image was bad and not representing the true picture. But still this picture has a considerable degradation in clarity from the middle part to the edges and also the sharp part in the middle is not too big. Thats why I posted it. To get an answer, how big the sharp part in the middle is. But now I know for IPD 68 it seems to be smaller than for IPD 64, which is someting to be exected anyway. The only real way to find out is, to try it for myself. Still Im a bit hesitant to order it right away, since the Vive Cosmos should be around pretty soon, that has IPD-adjustment and inside-out tracking. And Id prefer to get the consumer-Reverb anyway. Bit cheaper and also possibly better facial cusioning. So I guess, its better to wait a bit longer.... more time to think and decide.
  19. Thx for the info. That was helpful. Of course I knew, that the whole blurrines of the pic wasnt the real thing and only due to the recording with the mobile. I just wanted to kind of know, how bad the drop in sharpness towards the edges is.
  20. Sweet Spot Hi. Im planning to purchase a Reverb, once the revised version is available in Europe. Ill probably order it from HP directly, since they should be the first to sell the new units from mid-september on. Strangly on their website, I always read of 1 year reduced guarantee, but within EU they do have to offer a 2-year-guarantee. Nevertheless, Im a bit worried, since my IPD is 67mm, which might cause some problems. Since the sweet-spot should not be too big on the Reverb, I fear, that my a bit above average IPD could cause the sweetspot to get even smaller. I made a printscreen of a video on youtube, where a guy filmed through the lens with a mobile phone. See attached file. Looking at the pic, it only looks (kind of) sharp in the middle and much blurrier toward the edges. I briefly had a Rift S and it was also a bit blurry on the sides, but WAY better than on this vid on youtube and was not a bother for me. It also seems, that my IPD did not have a bad effect on the Rift S.. Can anyone comment on the Reverb with a compareable IPD? Ive only found a statemant, where 70 was too high. Can anyone comment on the sweet spot and if the posted pic correctly represents the distribution of clarity of the Reverb? Thx
  21. PM Hi. I just did. But there is nothing in my "Sent-Items"-Box..
  22. Hello. Do you have to qualify like minimum number of posts to be able to send PMs? I tried to send a PM today three tiimes and it did not work. Thx
  23. I did not try that since I did not know about that. But I turned up PD quite high (1,7 or 1,8 ) which is kind of the same in my understanding. Fps went down though way too much with my current setup. But I planned to upgrade to a 2080 at least anyway. Other than that, I will consider the Index since my IPD is on the higher side of normal (67). Since I do not need the controllers, it could be a bit cheaper, or better less expensive. Thx for your input.
  24. Sorry to interrupt your (very interesting) discussion. Ill send back the Rift S in maybe 10 Minutes. I did not like the shimmering, and the limited view into distance, eg no being able to see the orientation of the carrier 3 miles out. Also the sea looked much worse, especially sundowns... I did also not like the limited FOV, but during flying it actually was not a problem, so something to get used to. Question: would going for the Index alleviate some of my problems with the Rift S?? Would the Index absolutly require a 2080Ti or could someting more cheaper also do fine? I personally think, that its more of a personal problem with VR, since my expactiations were a bit too high. Thx
  25. Watched that Episode on YouTube and its cool. Still I think, pitching deck is a rather extreme Situation and there are many other weather-related issues, that ED should fix first.
