  1. If I just had bought a I9-10900K with an expensive watercooling-solution Id also say, Intel still is the best. :smilewink: And it boosts up to 5,3Ghz. Alt least some chips in very rare occasions, even though I probably would have never seen it do so. From what we have seen yesterday, it might be that AMD comes out top on 90% of games. But we will have to wait first for good reviews. But since there is no decent source for CPU-comparisons in DCS, everybody will interpret this in his own way to come out on top. And of course DCS is way different to everything else...:smilewink: If I had a 10900K, Id be happy; but Id also be happy to have a 5900X. Nevertheless, if I go for a new CPU right now, Id go with the latter. But just because Id still be able to use my Noctua NH-D15-cooler.... Id not care for the 3-5% the 5900X will offer more in gaming performance. I guess only the top fanboys of each brand will be able to see that difference. By the way: Im a Noctua-Fanboy!:megalol:
  2. :) DLSS is software-based, meaning AMD can also develope something similar, which I think they do anyway. But most importantly: what does DLSS do for DCS? Nothing, since its not implemented as in the majority of games. But I have to admit, that I dont know, if (upcoming) Vulcan can implement DLSS. So, if its possible and it offers some performance benefits, Id happy to accept them. But I guess, ED will stay on a neutral position and not push tech, that only works with some specific hardware. Just a guess on my side.
  3. Well, as it seems, there wont be too many Nvidia-cards around in the beginning anyway. Samsung should still have pretty poor yields for the chips.... But that will get better. Overall I agree with the OT, that the high powerconsumption is probably due to AMD getting competitive and also consoles arriving later this year. According to youtuber "Moores law is not dead" (which is my preferrred sourve of info), that has been quite right about Ampere, AMD will be competitive; but its not clear, if that will be the case in every class, especially the top class. It seems that out of a wafer with BigNavi 21, AMD can get many more CPUs, that would yield better profits than a GPU. Anyway, Im looking forward to real benchmarks from reknown reviewers and not the "selected" ones from Nvidia. But one thing is for sure: nobody here on the forum, that got a 3090 will admit, that a much cheaper 3080 (about 15% less perf rumored) would have been enough. So, I guess info about those will be kind of subjective…. On thing to consider though is, that all those topcards to offer their top-Performance will need PCIe 4.0. So all with their 9900K and 10900K will have to give up some %%. But upcoming Zen3 should beat the 10900K anyway….
  4. One more bottleneck is coming too. PCIe 4.0. It seems, that RTX3090 will only be able to use its full potential with PCIe 4.0. Since its rumored that current LGA1200 boards might not support PCIe 4.0 (even RocketLake is not confirmed me thinks), a move to an AMD-based system might also be in order…… If a PCIe 3.0 based 3090 with a 10900K would loose say 10% compared to a PCIe 4.0 based one witha Ryzen 3900X and a 3080 looses the expected 15% to the 3090 it could be more economic to get a 3080 and with the saved money invest in a new AMD CPU(Zen3)/board, since overall performance could be quite similar….. But economical reasons will not be the most important for someone considering a RTX3090. Maybe a new mainboard (after RocketLake is released) will do also. [just made a funny typo: the above sentence at first was: But economical reason will not be…..:-)]
  5. Still using TrackIR I did this for a long time. Before refuling I raised my head by 15cm, then recentered TrackIR (F12) and sat down again. That way, I was way lower in the cockpit and it was much more comfy for me looking at the tanker. I then let go of this habit, except for the S3-tanker. But somewhere along the way, I also stopped doing it there. But I guess, if one still still not used to doing AAR, the lower position can mean some relief for the anyway stressed shoulders/neck….. With the VR-Headsets I owned briefly it was not such a problem, since of the much higher spacial awareness of VR. But doing a recenter to lower the seatposition also helped.
  6. I wrote this once before and still think it holds true. Getting a 30xx will only increase max fps. But it will not raise the min fps, since those come from the CPU (System). When testing I had CPU-frametimes of ~10-15ms in light load but up to 50ms in heavy load like MP or missions with lots of units. In such a case the strong GPU wont help nothing. But with the new RTX one can probably use higher SS to get finally rid of those terrible jaggies (aliasing, shimmering). Anyway, Im waiting for RDNA2, which should be competitive in the 3070 and 3080-case (not 3090 though). My 2070S with 225W is already heating up my small office-room quite a bit and going to something like 320W (with the 3080, which would be the logical step for me for the upcoming Reverb G2) would be too much. But RDNA2 should be more energy-efficient, if leakers are correct.
  7. Had the same problem. Jester stopped at 12200 pounds to give updates. Because of this thread I found out, that after a reinstall of Windows I mapped my fuel-probe-switch wrongly. Now it works again. Strange thing is though, that the Harriers right upon starting the IA-Nevada-AAR-mission go on a collision-course with my Tomcat and you first have to avoid them to be able to do the refuel....
  8. Im pretty sure he will let you bleed... Since he wont let down his shareholders for sure. Im hoping for a competitive RDNA2, so competition will lower the prices eventually... But my guess is, that AMD will also ask ridiculous prices.... Just like Jensen...
  9. What people tend to forget with newer (10th gen) Intel-CPUs that they cause additional costs for cooling, at least the 10700K and 10900K. But also the 10600K can draw quite some power. PL2 is (I think) 180W. And thats before OC. So good cooling is required, which are some additional 100e+. AMDs (not the new XTs) have a reasonably cooler included but OC will also require a better cooling-solution. But OC on AMDs renders only small gains anyway. If you stay at stock, AMD is probably the better choice. But if you want to OC Intel for sure is better, tjough more costly. I would not go for the new XTs from AMD since they offer only some 5% gain, but are way more expensive and dont have a cooler. And there wont be a 3700XT. Id like to point to another CPU, namely the I5-9600K Im using. 80e cheaper than the 10600K bur only a few % slower. My CPU oc"s to 5,2GHz (kind of) stable, but since I dont want it to run at 1,38V Vcore 24/7 Im down to 5GHz at 1,28V. If you only use it for DCS this could be a good solution. But in a more general use-scenario only 6cores seems too little nowadays.. Other Intel 8th or 9th gen CPUs (8700K, 9700K) dont seem so interesting, since they are priced way to high...
  10. Made the update earlier manually using the link above. Nvidia-driver was changed back to DCH and most of my settings were reset; had to do a reinstall of the current Gefore-driver to get be to WHQL. Also when starting DCS I had to log in again manually.
  11. Thx for the tips but I finally managed to skip the mission. But I almost made it. After the initial GBU-drops I ordered to the Wingman above the clouds to anchor. Then went down and took out the two AAA-sites in the beginning of the valley with the Mavericks. Would have been better to take only one out with the Maverick and go after the second with the gun to save one Maverick. Then I sent in the Wingman to engage the air defenses. He took out the SAM-manpad but not the other two AAA-sites. Ordering a few more times to engage those, did not help. Also the orders to engange other targets were ignored. So I went in with the gun on the last two AAA-sites. But since I had labels-enabled, I could not see them in all the labels. Managed to take out one but the one in the back got me and all systems (except HUD) went down. So I rtb-ed. And finally heard the jingle, which meant the mission was done. On my other attempts this did not happen... So actually my "cheat" made it worse for me. Also I put on 4 additional Mavericks (after startup) and even the DSMS did load them correctly, I was only able to use 2 Mavericks. But the weight of the other Mavericks was there all the time.... The two GBU-38s I had left, I did not get to use, since I had troubles with the Tpod. After going around the point it was aiming at before was moved somewhere else; pretty sure not on my behalf. Maybe it had problems with the elevation.... Did not have any trust in them anyway, since I always missed with them before. Anyway, I think I would have found the correct tactic for this mission now but Im still kind of relieved to be able to go on. Two Mavericks instead of the two GBUs and it would have been almost a breeze! Or at least some Mk82s...
  12. Dont understand this. RTB does skip the mission, does it? I tried twice and it did not work. Also tried ceating by turning on labels and changing the loadout. First one did not help. And the latter (for sure for a reason) wasnt possible. Ill leave it for now. Maybe go at it again in a few weeks.... Anyway: not critizizing your work, the Campaing for sure is nice and I can see the effort you put into it. But up to now I thought, Im mildly proficient in the workflow in the A-10. I have to accept that Im obviously far from that. Thx.
  13. I had already one mission, that took me maybe 8 attempts, but this one is taking all the joy out for DCS for right now. Only frustration.... Its the mission where you have ot attack the camp in a high valley behind a corner in the valley with three SAM (two in the lower valley and easy to kill) - and four AAA-sites and a low cloudbase. I dont know the mission-number, but its called "Operation Hammerfall, part 3" Whats frustrating: 1) HUD is unreadable against the lower fog high up; always have to pitch up so I can see, which SP I choose against the blue sky; probably its a DCS-problem 2) my Wingman constantly gets shot down. Either he manages to kill one of the two AAA in front of the corner or none. I tried Mavericks on them but never did get a lock because of the building in the back, which is clever missionbuilding; at least for peopel better than me; also tried GBU-38s but did not manage to get a hit 3) I usually end up doing desperate gun-strafe which of course dont end well.... Overall this Campaing is nice to play and Ive learned quite a few things. But the only thing Ive learned of this mission is, how to get to the target-area within 10mins; just doing an auto-start, then speeding up time to ~30x, taking off straight of the taxiway, and going fullspeed to the frist two engagements... 4) oh, yes, I thought landing back a the airfield would jump the mission as instructed in the beginning; not even being sucessful at that. Maybe, if someone is reading this, he could give a hint how to get through or jump this mission. Anyway I advise everybody buying this campaing to check his abilities. Ive got about 60hrs on the A-10 with 1050 AG-kills and that seems to be not enough...
  14. Have you enabled "full screen"?
  15. Do I have to ground-stabilize the Tpod now? Once I zoom in I have the shaky image thst moves with the aircraft.
  16. Also have a 2070S and owned a Rift S and Reverb. Also had an Index. The Reverb seems (relativly) rather undemanding compared to the other two with their specific required settings. Rift S with PD1.0 runs smoothest. But with the Rift S I used 1,3PD and with the Reberb 100%SS (so kind of PD1,0) which seemed fps-wise not too different. On the Reverb I had some stutters once in a while (no new frames rendered for a moment, maybe up to 0,5s) though, that I did not know why. The Index on the other hand seemd to require a bit more than the 120%SS it set it to have good fps. But with 200% (where a visible difference started to show) fps dropped quite a bit. But Im not sure, if one can take the fps on the Reberb G1 directly to G2. I guess, we will have to wait to find out.
  17. I started DCS (or better gave it a try) on a mobile i5-6200U and a 940MX. Even going down to lowest resolution (720p?) and settings I had ususally about 15fps. Was unplayable, so I bought a second hand i5-3570 and a RX570 with 4GB VRam. On 1080p that was with medium settings quite ok, 25-40fps as I remember. I dont know what Cpu you have at 3,2Ghz, but it could be a close call. My guess would be that its too slow, especially since more and more things have been added to DCS. But since basic DCS is free, there is no risk testing it.
  18. Yeah, in the Hornet Mini-update-thread the release of several TGP-updates was announced for today.
  19. Im thinking the Reverb G2 could be first HMD I like. But I can remember a statement from HP regarding ReverbG1, that it dont need IPD-adjustment, because the sweetspot is so big.:cry::cry: I owned the Reverb and IMO the sweetspot was tiny. Rift S is far ahead in that regard. Thinking of this statement, Im not sure the G2 will be everybody expects it to be.... Will for sure not preorder for that reason and wait for the first reviews. Go to 02:20 for the statement (cited)
  20. Not an expert, but if the GPU is maxed out, overall it dont matter if the CPU just barley can deliver the required data or is crusiing along at 15% load and could deliver data for much more frames. Thats what a bottleneck is all about. At least, as I understand it. I did the test with my current OC (right now 5,1Ghz) and also with stock 4,3 Ghz (if all cores are used). The results were exactly the same. Since it was not mentioned, I turned off TrackIR before loading, so I had a straight look forward, when the Briefing came. FPS are from Afterburner and I also checked the fps when my GPU was overclocked (111% Powerlimit, +100Mhz GPU, +1000Mhz Vram). 1080p, high presets, 4xMSAA Hornet: stock 78fps/OC 85fps Su-25T: stock 94fps/OC 104fps At first I only had 95-95% GPU-load, but after hitting Alt-Enter (which I thought was not needed anymore for a long time) it got the wanted 99%.
  21. I do not understand this. I thought, if both your alike GPUs are maxed, CPU/RAM dont matter. Putting a faster CPU into a system, where the GPU is already maxed will not give higher fps. Or is my understanding wrong?
  22. You have to know for some VR is religion. And over religion wars have started. And yes, calling VR looking like potatoes ia a sacrileg. It does not matter if false or true. But Im kind of with you, that VR in DCS looks like potatos. And wanting to have 1080p-monitor-quality with decent fps is not unrealistic! Anyway, after selling a RiftS, Index and Reverb, Im putting my hopes on the G2 Reverb or the next Samsung Hmd. With some technical advances in DCS (Vulcan and multicore-Cpu-support) next year could be the year for finally getting a good experience with VR in DCS. The problem right IMO is, that the VR-implementation of DCS still is rather poor and an RTX3080Ti on its own wont change this. But of course thats all personal taste. Some like potatoes, others dont.
  23. In the interview on MRTV they said preorder is possible in the US right away with other regions following into July. I guess your country as most will have to wait a bit.
  24. https://www.roadtovr.com/hp-reverb-g2-hands-on-preview/ Can be preordered, first deliveried in fall
