That would be a real shame as it shortens the life of each of the DCS products. In five years when a person first comes across the DCS range, having everything using the same engine would be a massive bonus as it keeps all of the range fresh, attractive and income higher. Flight sims might have less of a generic appeal but they seem to have an active following for years and years and it would be good to tap into asset of the market.

I know the laser range finder burning out so much is a real life feature but does it still happen in the KA50s of 2009? Does this happen to western laser range finders? Is this the state of the art in Russian laser manufacture or did Kamov buy the lot from a man in the pub for $20?

I bought flaming cliffs last week as I saw a patch was coming out. Even if it is the last one before 100% commitment to the DCS line it is value for money.

Like people have said, do the videos, do the tutorials and first of all just get the hang of flying the helicopter. One thing you can do is take control of the tutorials so for some this really helps. I learnt the startup sequence this way, basically take control at the start after watching a few times then after startup practising flying.

I use it when I want to control the helicopter in a fast manner i.e. fly through the city, jinking etc and my focus is on flight or evasion. The autopilot and route following is used when my focus is on attack or something else so I can keep the blue side up and don't use the Ka 50 as a plough. :)

Some training missions surrounding combat situations. Am thinking Lomac had lots of different types of training and DCS Blackshark seems to have like two and that's it.

I would like to see DCS on Steam so that ED can increase their revenue dramatically. EDIT: Just now Steam promoted to me that HAWX has a 25% discount for this weekend only on Steam. That flexibility and exposure of such offers to a 20 million plus potential customer base is something that EDs download service cannot match.

As a complete TrackIR noob what is the best thing to buy so I don't have to use headphones. Much prefer using the speakers than headphones and if I could clip this onto head mounted boom mike or hat this would be ideal. Any help would be appreciated.

Totally agree, I'd rather have them as they are than not at all.

I think that because the bottom rotor is in a climb state due to being in the downwash from the top rotor and being optimised for zero rudder input in hover when in forward flight you're going to get some slip without rudder input. Might be worth making your rudder input a touch less non linear too so small adjustments are easier near the centerline.

I can imagine unless the Ka 50 gets the jump on the Apache it would be quite one sided as the British Apache is a generation or two more advanced than a KA 50.

Have to admit this would be awesome, must be some ex Ka50 pilots out there wanting to earn some money.

The sims section on steam needs something better than IL-2 1946. BTW I have bought stuff on Steam on sales offers that I would not have bought otherwise. For example the Orange Box for £5.66 doesn't need to do too much to prove value for money for me. Blackshark needs to have Steam as an outlet.

Have to admit this sim makes all others feel tame, it just hits the sweet spot for me.

A steam version gets my vote and the special deal weekends can really push up the income.
