I went on Saturday with my father in law as a 60th bday present for him. He and I both loved it. And the FW190 was awesome, love the paint scheme! Would recommend this airshow as a really great one to go to, different from the RIATT and Farnborough and really makes the most of the aircraft on display. Only question I have is where was The Fighter Collection trade stand with lots of stuff to buy as am sure he would have gone home with some sim stuff as I'd given him a demo of FC in the morning and his reaction was wow!

You prefer fly Lockon: Flaming Cliffs or DCS-Black-Shark??
HansRoaming replied to carlos22cps's topic in Chit-Chat
Apples and Oranges, both have their plus points as does IL2. I enjoy flying and shooting up things and for me it is not an either or question I enjoy them all. Right now I love BS and can't wait for the other DCS modules. -
In Europe that will get you in trouble. But then again the interface starts to become a de facto standard that everyone will use if sims don't support different standards by request. As for the price it is a good product in a niche market where there is no commercial competition, they can charge what the market will bear and good luck to them. It looks like time of flight cameras might obsolete the product though in a few years if it doesn't change. Anyway am loving the immersion that I get from mine, transforms flight sims and makes them so much easier, no faffing about with the view!

Got mine a week ago and the thing prompted me to start flying every flight sim I owned. Awesome.

Yeah everyone, remember this is version 1.0. By 2.3 we'll be taking DCS out on dates and talking about settling down and having babies with it. :)

Mine just arrived and the experience with it is transformational, every sim, especially combat sims is so much better and also more immersive Worth every penny.

Amazon.com and .uk needs to be sorted out soon please ED as they are selling your DVD based product and it just screams 'bundle'!

Reading EdMacy's review the Ka-50 is like a Longbow in revision mode, the Blackshark is simply a generation behind it seems.

He tweeted it this morning, good review, worth a look and great points about air to air.

I believe DCS will over time have a rich stable of aircraft, just keep the same core engine with different aircraft in a sandbox world. Perfection! There is no reason why Blackshark can't be going in ten years time appealing to a new generation of simmers. DCS if it lives up to the promise can loose the release and age problem sims of the past have had.

I have mine on pre order with Amazon.co.uk anyone have any idea when they will get stock?

Dusty, to go off topic a sec am currently reading a lot of helicopter combat books (including now, Low Level Hell) to try and get a feel for how a mission would look to be real. I wonder if anyone knows of any translated good Russian helicopter pilot books though? Maybe from Afghanistan etc?
-
As a direct result of this statement I bought Flaming Cliffs as DCS Blackshark has got me back into Air Combat Sims. Of course it helps that with my current rig everything runs smooth at 1920 x 1200 compared to when I first got LOMAC! :)
-
I wonder if we have any Russian military helo pilots n here that could shed light on some doctrine such as calling in arty?
-
Watch the DVD 'The corporation' seeding is a valid marketing tactic. As for TrackIR 5, am waiting for mine to ship so this thread worked on me :)

Thanks everyone for your replies. I didn't think it would be possible currently within the game. Does anyone know if this is a capabilty the Russian special forces ka-50 pilots can make use of though? If so would be a neat addition in a future DCS patch maybe.
-
I originally voted for the F16 but after delving back into LOMAC I think that the F-15E would be a good choice. Possibly with the F15-C thrown into the mix to provide a deep strike with escort package that could be flown in multi player. Am guessing both aircraft could be done in a single release as they share the same airframe a multitude of subsystems and Eagle Dynamics have got something to work on already from the LOMAC days. Sure we'd all love the fighters just coming into service or in the near future but ED won't be able to get the information they need.

I remapped my trim button on my joystick to make holding trim easy and now fly like this as it is the way real pilots do. Takes some getting used to but then becomes easier than switching FD on and off.

Am currently reading the most excellent book, Snake Pilot, about a Cobra pilot who flew attack helicopters in Vietnam. One of the type of missions they would fly was to escort a scout and apart from using their own weapons to engage any found enemies could call in arty and air strikes. Does the Russian military give such an ability to it's Ka-50 pilots, especially if I remember correctly that these are special forces helicopters that I can imagine engage in the type of warfare missions the above cobra pilot did? You can imagine, you fly very low level to terrain mask, find the enemy camp and using the targeting capability of you helicopter use the Abris to plot a grid reference that can be passed onto Arty. Do currently units have this capability in the Russian military to operate like this and would it be possible to do in game if they do? To act as the on scene commander using direct and calling in strikes. If so would think it would add depth to the combat side of this excellent sim.

Amazon.co.uk has it listed as temporarily out of stock, I take it by the above comments for Amazon.com that they are on their way? Have one on pre order.

Ka-50 safety in winds that create rotor intersections
HansRoaming replied to mbolan's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I've yet to have a rotor intersection. I guess you just have to remember to not throw the KA-50 about and go mad on the collective at high speed. -
I copied and modified the Shooting range missions so I could practice my gunnery and put some rockets in there. It almost seems I had to hit them directly with the rocket before they went down. Very strange. Was the default mission loadout for Shooting range.

I think it is a smaller percentage of the gaming market than before but then the market is now bigger than hollywood. Get the right sales medium like direct download and steam and the genre can thrive. Also if DCS lives up to its promise of keeping releases current with updated engines then DCS Blackshark has no reason no to be gnerating income for years to come. Loose the game mentality.

OMG I'm in love!
