  1. Trees sorted would be nice but we're probably talking a few years down the line to get the consumer level computers that could handle the load to give nice FPS. Am just happy they are there at all.
  2. I think insect people from the earth's core wearing silly hats is a pretty neat concept myself.
  3. Have to say for me having pedals is a must, although am still such a noob that am learning how to fly the chopper. I still get a buzz from running the voice for the engine start up tutorial and flying in the city to build my flying skills up. So for me I'm at the learning to fly the Blackshark in the weeds stage and pedals are a must. However as soon as I do a combat mission I immediately find that having a HMS not moved by a hat as well as being able to look around very quickly to build up my SA would be a real advantage. So Track IR is my next purchase. Am guessing the real point is that Track IR and Pedals are not an either or decision but a what do I get first. :)
  4. Would recommend both Apache and Apache Dawn although because the Blackshark does not have the British Apache countermeasures the Blackshark has to use terrain masking more.
  5. Great to see you on the forums Ed. When I first bought Blackshark after falling for helicopters after a real life lesson I wanted to learn how to fight the machine and so bought your book Apace along with Apache Dawn by Damien Lewis. These led me to other books about our forces in Iraq and Afghanistan and I really appreciate the effort yourself and others have made in writing these books to communicate what it is like for our forces to those back home. Looking forward to Hellfire (which I have on Amazon pre order) especially as you're going into tactics into some depth. Back on thread to this being a DCS Wish list I wish that ED Macy Beta tests the AH 64A module, helps write the manual, does some included tracks etc. No pressure there. :)
  6. Awesome post EinsteinEP, personally have never had the rotor cone intersection problem as never really stomp on anything as have always found that never works well in any aircraft.
  7. Shame for the delay. As a customer I prefer the short time scale and small footprint release approach adopted by software companies such as Jive over the long time scale and large footprint release. Less to go wrong per patch and shorter times between fixes. Of course this is just my viewpoint and would like to here from ED why they favour the long time between release and large foot print approach over and above a mod saying things like "I feel you have no clue as to what you're talking about." earlier in this thread.
  8. Steam gets my vote, and their sales really work, lower the price for a sale and you bring in increased revenue.
  9. THIS Generally in this modern world single player trains you up, multi player keeps you in the game. A remotely controllable dedicated server with admin and auto tk features would be a boon as well as a great way to find them. DCS is looking to have a long lifeline ahead of it so keeping people which are after all social animals interested is a good thing. Also the easier it is to have a hosted server the more there will be. built in VOIP I feel is a must in this day and age and adds to the immersion immensly. Possibly this could translate over to the military contracts as they could then offer group tactics with voice training. Not everyone likes fast jets, that is fine but as pointed out above fast movers will bring new blood into the game. Personally I like close air support so will be trying out anything that can move mud. Lastly I wonder if BS being available via Steam would help as well, there is a large base there and the policy of guest passes and weekend sales would possibly bring more people and cash into the game. With voice comms in the game and guest passes you could invite your friend to try out BS and then talk them through what to do and how to fly. The latter would be especially good if you could sit over the shoulder in the same cockpit or something or have duel control.
  10. Full Sim for me, part of the buzz is picking up the flying skill.
  11. If you hit the flight director button then you get stabilisation without the constant trimming. I have the AP - FD switch mapped to my joystick so when I am in the weeds moving around I'm in FD mode and when I want to fly in a line to go somewhere I'm using AP mode. You still do a fair bit of trimming but you loose that fight the aircraft when manoeuvring feeling. After a while you just get into the habit of move, trim, move, trim, just like a real chopper pilot would. The patch coming out will address the trimming in a better way than now I think so that might help you too. Anyway once you're not fighting the aircraft to manoeuvre then picking up the skill to fly the chopper is part of the immersion and you do get better over time. The sense of achievement is awesome when you start to 'get it'. Oh and another thing you might want to try is to go into the game controls and to 'flatten' out the response of your controls a bit near the midddle, this makes it a little less sensitive and easier to make the constant tiny adjustments needed without over compensating to steer the aircraft. Hope this helps. Enjoy the game.
  12. Signed am still loving this sim since I bought it, just keeps getting better the more you fly. Expect reviews on amazon from me
  13. Yeah it really made me HAWX up!
  14. Sikorsky seem to think 2' is enough on their X-2 as they have carbon blades which are quite rigid. Am guessing more COAX combat / civilian choppers will be coming down the road. I know I would certainly want to try out the COAX 412 if it ever makes the light of day.
  15. I feel I need oxygen at 50m :)
  16. Pre ordered on amazon.co.uk
  17. Thanks for the heads up. Seems much more efficient than the traditional single rotor and tail rotor, wonder why more helicopters aren't COAX.
  18. Was curious about this, do you mean one speeds up and the other slows down or that one has a higher pitch angle than the other when commanding yaw?
  19. Have a look, some are DU and some are Tungsten.
  20. For me the immersion and sense of achievement one gets when you learn something new is second to none in this sim. Am currently upgrading my PC to make BS better. ED have got my money for their future ground attack and close air support releases.
  21. Westland WAH-64 Apache and Afghanistan map.
  22. Just wish they'd write them down in English somewhere :)
  23. Now that the manual is coming out. Development tools plus documentation (wiki?) and maybe open sourcing some parts like the mission editor. This will allow the community to add value to the whole DCS line and allow DCS to focus on the core engine and aircraft.
  24. Yes, but would you wear DU underwear? :)
  25. The only alternative was to fly a desk so your in game pilot decked his CO. :)
