another nail in the coffin of the sim industry
sweinhart3 replied to ChromeWasp's topic in Chit-Chat
I actually find that just hitting reset trim before engaging auto hover still results in some typical backwards drifts. I usually have to trim my attitude again a little bit forward to counteract that. Once Ive done that my drift is usually near zero. -
Sioc code for actions not in Clickabledata.lua

Um Im pretty new to programming the export files and dont know a great deal about it. However, what I did was take the files from Oakes web page and simply changed a couple of the output variables to map to say, landing gear and master caution lights instead of the datalink indicators. In other words, right now the only file that has been modified is the siocConfig.lua file. The rest of the files, Export.lua, ExportSupport.lua are untouched. There doesnt appear to be a delay. For instance, the lamps associated with the landing gear work with no perceivable delay between what the sim shows on screen and what happens on my output panel as I cycle between gear up/dwn. Blinking lights are a different story for some reason. My output panel is only blinking at maybe 2/3 the rate of the blinking on screen and then as mentioned before will skip a blink and just generally be completely out of sync with whats on the screen. As far as the tcp_nodedelay option goes, I didnt touch that because i know nothing about what it does or what it should be set too. -
Amen.

Wonder if he quit. His last post suggested he was going back to XBOX360 games. -
Sioc code for actions not in Clickabledata.lua

I was using a test version of SIOC code that did not have much scripting in it. The files are actually pretty small. Output code that controls my LEDs are in the Export-after-every-frame section, so it should be real time output. Is a second computer really necessary for correct timing? Just doesnt seem right given that Im running a decent pc. (Admittedly Im testing this using a laptop with dual core 2.5Ghz, but the sim runs fine on it with good frame rate so I didnt think this should be an issue. Both my pcs use 64bit versions of vista and win7. Is there a way to assign it to a new thread for better processor utilization?) -
Sioc code for actions not in Clickabledata.lua

So I was messing with the sioc programming in prep for A-10 but I went ahead and hooked up a bunch of my outputs and tested with several BS functions. One thing of note, I tied one of my outputs to the Master Caution and noticed that the rate of blinking in th cockpit and LED did not match up. In fact about every 3 or 4 blinks it seemed to skip a blink. Anyone else have this issue or know of the fix? Besides that minor annoyance its working good. If only I had access to the A-10C export files. -

yes its happened to me too. I either shut my pc down entirely or close the TIR software before leaving. -
Sioc code for actions not in Clickabledata.lua

I think I figured it out. I managed to get nose landing gear up and down indicators output to my board and working in the sim. Next job will be applying a switch to it. -
Thanks Gadroc. Just ordered 2. If anyone is interested in the 2 OC displays I will sell them 1/2 price completely unused.

I spent most of the day yesterday looking at the coding in the SIOC examples posted earlier. The code seems to call out files that dont exist in the examples such as myIndicators.lua. I havent been able to figure out the SIOC program or what coding is necessary to run it. The program always calls for sioc.ssi even if I try to load some of the other examples. It also seems to try to call config_SIOC.cfg which from what I can tell doesnt contain anything. It gives an error stating it cant find it. So Im wondering exactly what files need to be included to run SIOC.exe which Im assuming is necessary for it all to work. Secondly, while the examples are great, Im using the USB_Outputs card which isnt called out in the coding examples. I am trying to program 1 LED output on this card in this system to nose landing gear with BS just as proof of concept. It seems like Im needing help to do just this one thing. I think if I can get a working example of just this one thing, I can build it up from there. Since Im wanting to progam for DCS-A10C, I really need just a working proof of concept for now with that 1 card. -
Must be quite a downer having to play the sim all the time looking for bugs. Poor thing.

thank you. Ill see if I can do something with that. Does anyone remember what displays SCS simulations were using for their MFDs? I thought they were 7" samsung but they dont have it on their website anymore. What are other people using? Seams like 1:1 ratio displays arent available but Im specifically looking for non widescreen displays. Im looking for something that will fill most of the display area 5"x5".

Well in Blackshark it is very difficult to lock up a moving air target unless they are moving head on or away from you. The AI though is able to lock me up no problem when Im flying A-10 regardless of my aspect ratio to them. Im also amazed at how easily they spoof AIM-9. More times than not my missiles miss unless I am within its own WEZ and coming from behind which isnt very easy when they just swing around and fire a few cannon rounds. Then Im dead.

I hope the game is really that cool looking. It looks so real and fluid. Cant wait.

Here are some pics of it. There is no RCA jack and I cant figure out what kind of jack these are or what their purpose is.
-
I hope Im able to figure out the IO electronics I bought. If not I may end up trying to tackle programming of my own pic controller and then just replacing the chip.

I got mine in today. woot. 2 of them. Unfortunately, the advertised composite video connection is nothing like the ones in US. In fact, all the connections on it are totally unfamiliar. I don understand any of it other than the whole thing is obviously for European standards and not US. No instructions included of course as with the rest of OC products. Plus I thought they would be 5" horizontally and they are only 4" horizontally, 5" diagonal. So it looks like my $250 investment is gonna be totally worthless for me.

anyone know how to do it simped pedals? I havent been able to assign them to axis in either sim. Directx sees the brakes as axis input but its either full on or full off. no differential.
-
well according the reviews Thrustmaster started the project before DCS was even announced. So the way I see it they are 2 almost unrelated projects. It wasnt made for DCS. Just happened to coincide nicely.
-
Pure speculation. Noone ever even said that DCS:A-10C was coming out this year. Some hinted that its being targeted for end of year release but noone has confirmed that to my knowledge.

i gotta ask. Is it normal for Mi-24 to engage A-10? They keep engaging me in FC2 with gun and its dead accurate. Few hits and Im down. In BS, if I even try to engage a helicopter that is moving around muchless a fixed winged aircraft, I pretty much have to get lucky and hope the AI is being stupid to bring it down.

You will be fine with your existing pots as long as they are still functioning properly. -
You know who you really have to blame for high US price? The US government. Fact of the matter is that the US dollar is only worth about 3/4 of what the Euro is worth.

Excellent. thanks. looks like my 1" estimate was only off by .05". I was afraid it would be bigger and I would have to make some changes, but that should end up being a perfect fit.
