Yep. I end up flying the same 3 or 4 missions all the time because its always back and forth with failure/success.
-
Fact is I havent seen a single flight sim that can realistically portray speed unless you have a very expensive dome/360 degree display system and a good graphics/terrain engine that is detailed. Real life flying will always feel a lot faster than a sim.

Dying in and of itself doesnt set you back a mission. Mission failure sets you back. If you die after completing the objective the campaign will still move forward. If you die on takeoff before your friendlies are killed off, your mission should stay the same when you restart. If you sit on the farp and do nothing and the AI destroys your buddies, youll probably be playing the previous mission the next time around. Once upon a time before patches you could refly the current mission till you passed it if you died. Now (at least for me) refly isnt an option. If you didnt make it, well, that sux.

I guess we'll never know will we? The second you try to jump in without authorization, the MPs will shoot your ass dead. I have no experience flying jets outside of simulators. I have been at the controls of numerous small prop planes, and as comfortable as I am landing in simulators, I'm positive I could do it in the real thing. However, when the real thing means life or death, I wouldnt dare try it without a proper instructor right there. Takeoff is pretty easy though. Not much to it if you can keep the plane straight.

BS bitchin betty sound is too silent
sweinhart3 replied to Boberro's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
They tweaked everything in the new sound engine and attenuated everything because you would realistically be wearing headphones in the real deal. Problem is, imo, they tweaked it too much. You cant hear yourself getting hit by missles or guns, your own weapons are hard to hear, and generally all around it just doesnt sound as good because the clarity is gone. There are a couple settings you can play around with which improve this, but still not as good as prior to 1.02. The only thing I even like about the new sound engine is the better performance. -
they didnt show any metro areas though. I suspect if they are modeled similar to that airport, metro areas would look like lego buildups. Still they did a pretty good job with the rest of it. Definitely is still work in progress, or at least I hope so, but so far so good.

I made a design in Alibre for the landing gear. I guessed at the length. I did not incorporate a push button or light as it would add more complexity with little benefit. I think it will be pretty simple to make and the lever action will require you to pull it out to move it up or down. I didnt show it but simply add a couple springs on the ends and your switch and I think it'll be golden. Gear.pdf

Rotor intersection isnt hard to avoid. You really just have to be careful about putting in too much collective. If you drop your collective, you can do just about anything without worrying about blade collision.

TM Warthog HOTAS & MFD Mapping
sweinhart3 replied to blaster454's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
No rudder on the shark equals no good. You can get away without rudder on a fixed wing somtimes but not so well on a rotary aircraft. You should either get a twist stick or rudder pedals. You could possibly get away with a keyboard but it would make it difficult to control. -
For skinning I plan to use the same technique used for RC aircraft. Simply use wood sheeting 1/16-1/8" thick. Cut out the dimension you need. Youll want to use wood that can be bent without cracking it. Soaking the wood in water and drying it out while it is bent will aid in the bending process and help it keep its shape once its dry. Then simply glue or nail or combination of both to the formers. Its not hard but after you done it a few times you'll get more familiar with technique.

Well I cant afford a mortgage. Rent doesnt cost as much so I have some play money left. I support 2.5 households. Would you rather have a house or toys? If your answer is a house, then you cant complain.

MFD cougars are for 4" displays. Warthog uses 5" displays. There is an extra set of toggle switches and a 3 position rotary switch. To my knowledge TM has no intention of building warthog mfd. But Im not in the loop so dont take that as fact.

Short answer is yes there are methods of extracting most of the data you need. However its not as intuitive as most people would like and will require custom programming. As already mentioned, if you are serious about it, you should check out the cockpit section of the forums. Research takes time but building the pit takes longer. I can only suggest you read the forums. Myself and a few other individuals are building pits. Theres invaluable information in there. There is a program called BSVP that will display instrumentation on a seperate display.

You can make a copy of players.lua to save your campaign progress and player logbook.

i think itll chop your liver if you get hit with it.

No I do not have the uber mod. I did replace the pots. I was going to purchase one when the warthog was announced after which I decided to save for it instead. My joystick did not always have center play. It was gradual over the five years Ive had it. I still use my stick and if it wasnt for the warthog, I doubt I would ever replace it.

multiplayer is far worse. you can expend all your ammo and just scratch the surface of enemy units. One reason I dont play online much.
-
as i said its the quick mission for A-10. Farthest I got was killing first 3 armored vehicles, 2nd spawn of 3 armored vehicles, 3rd spawn of 3 armored vehicles, 2 anti air units, helicopter, and usally dead by 4th spawn of armored units with 3 additional anti air including sams.
-
Kinda hard not to stay in the target area other than rearming when they just keep spawning after you destroyed the last set of units. Leaving the area and getting a drink isnt mission completion. Also I die because I dont use just mavs. When it comes to cannon and bombs, if I can hit them, they can hit me.

I take your point, but if your not an expert like myself, I dont want to fly 2hours just to get shot within 5min of entering hostile territory. For me, 90% of the time thats how it ends up. Some of the BS missions in deployment were like that (45min one way), and I had to fly those missions 10times to get past it. So I know how to rack up flight time, dying real fast is also another one of my talents. Even after several days of attempts, I still have not been able to complete the quick mission for A-10 in FC2 without getting shot down before everything is dead.
-
But I like the Russians. I wouldnt want to shoot any of them.
-
Just do it hehe.

I guess its because I never considered the Cougar to be a bad product. I still feel that it is an excellent product that is imperfect. If it had been refined a bit more it would have been perfect. The after market products are the tweaks that make it a perfect stick that will last 10 years. You wont see that in a plastic joystick.
-
hehe as it is right now I have to step over the sides onto my seat. Kinda pain in the ass and I havent even built the exterior shell yet. That will probably be last. Right now I have good access for wiring and prob best keep it that way till its done.

that definitely looks cool
