  1. I made my base structure 5' x 5' and it seems to be just the right size. I for one will not be building a full size hud if any at all, however.
  2. I can only speak for myself on that. I have not been without issue on my cougar. I had to replace the pots, and even now the center slop is horrible. Much of the reason I cant wait for the new hotas, because center slop simply is not an issue. However despite the slop, I personally have got rid of many a joystick in the past and kept (and still use) only my cougar for 2 reasons. 1. Sturdy all metal construction. 2. It is the closest replica to the real thing over any other product targeted at the consumer market. But as I said, those are things I value, and other people desire other features and have dropped their cougar in favor of a different brand.
  3. sounds like a strange bug. thats not normal
  4. Im not sure why your having this problem. I for one have been unable to progress. Some of the missions I have so much difficulty with that end playing the same 4 missions over and over again as I go forward two and then back two, forward 1, back 1 or 2 etc. I have been unable to complete chapter 2 in the last 6 months. Usually dieing either sets me back a mission or I stay on the current mission. The campaign has never advanced for me after dying unless my wingman happened to survive and complete the mission goals which is almost never.
  5. So if I understand correctly, it will operate pretty much the same way that Opencockpits manages their system, i.e. sending a command when a switch state changes rather than the Direct Input method used by windows. Do I have this right? In this case, having a cockpit switch sync command could be used for an entire pit. Very useful.
  6. Wish mine was gonna look that good. Cant afford the expensive machinery to do that tho.
  7. Your right. Its a piece of crap and waiste of money. I love waisting my money on totally pointless non essentials of life like all my expensive toys. You should hear about how much money Ive waisted on my pit and RC aircraft. $400 joystick is just the icing on the cake. :D
  8. Your loss. I have upgraded cougar and I cant wait for mine to come in. Hype or no hype, when every review out there has nothing but positives for it, they cant all be lying.
  9. I was a little disapointed they had a functional wiper but no rain on the windshield. Hopefully they will implement something like that in DCS:WH
  10. All speculation of course but mid November to mid December would fit much better to ED's stated 2010 release estimate 'barring no serious delays'
  11. Good question. Comes back to the whole syncronization thing with pit switches. Im curious myself.
  12. TYVM...
  13. When Microsoft released Windows 7, there were plenty of companies that had pre-release versions that wrote 64-bit drivers to be released the day of or shortly after the OS was released. Just because the two companies worked together to maintain out of the box compatibility has absolutely nothing to do with two companies putting out two seperate products having nothing to do with the other. Example, HP does not build printers for Microsoft's Windows 7. Sure they worked together to make sure they both work seamlessly but they are independant products that otherwise have nothing to do with each other. Edit: Oh and my proof is that ED already told everyone what their relationship with TM was. Independant. TM started developing their product quite some time before ED started A-10C. So if anyone was making something for the other, ED would be making DCS for use with TM joysticks.
  14. That right there is also your own theory without a shread of truth in it. TM and ED's products were developed completely independantly of each other and one had nothing to do with the other. But hey, if you'd like to believe that, be me guest. Just dont get disapointed and upset when your proved wrong.
  15. Um, the people that put out those rumors did so with absolutely no indication from ED that there was any truth in it. Those same people were pushing that ED had some kind of behind the scenes contract with TM and that was the only reason they were promoting the joystick. That and the people excited about this new HOTAS are just TM fanboys. Everyone needs to really stop accepting rumors started by a few and promoting it is likely fact. If ED or people in the know (basically I dont trust anyone that doesnt have an ED association with their name) didnt say it which in this case they didnt, ignore it. Its very likely conjecture with little truth to it.
  16. I didnt touch any files in BS folder. I couldnt even see the airport outside of my shkval till I was within a few kilometers. Everything outside my window looks like blank flat ground unless its nearby. Ill try some of the suggestions but my single player game and multiplayer game look completely different in terms of visibility. Even FC2 had further draw distance than what I saw in BS. I was flying at 60-150meters off the ground. Not sure if that makes any difference.

  18. maybe I misread it then. All know is they did say there was a friction control on it.
  19. Did you disable the 3 primary autopilot stabilization channels? If you did thats why. The chopper is very difficult to fly without them and they should never be turned off intentionally.
  20. I tried to fly online yesterday after some absence and found it impossible to do anything. The outside of cockpit view shows nothing but blank desert outside of 2km. Buildings and vehicles that can be seen in the shkval cannot be seen outside the main view. I do not have this problem in single player as you can make outside features well out of 10km range. Online this disability resulted in being shot down by missles with out any indication of enemy presence anywhere in site. My second attempt I managed to see missles launching in my shkval but no vehicles anywhere in site. Of course the outside view showed nothing but plain desert till a half second before I was hit when the missle came into view. This makes it rather impossible for online play when you just get shot down and cant make out vehicles or even buildings in the shkval view before its too late. Any suggestions? Otherwise Im gonna have to abandon any hope of online play and stick to single player where you can at least see the enemy in your shkval at 10km. Multiple times I was datalinked to another player, and when my abris shows I should be right next to another player, there is nothing in sight visually.
  21. using the gun is a far better option I think. You have to get too close to employ rockets where as the gun you can get reasonably accurate hits within 3-4km which is still too close for APCs. Them things are my worst enemy. There missles are reasonably easy to evade but their guns are deadly, accurate, and have 4km range which means outside of missles, if you can hit them, they can hit you.
  22. Maybe Im worng but I thought I read somewhere that it does actually control friction.
  23. everyone knows area 51 exists. I dont think modeling it would be a big deal. Its what goes on in area 51 and the projects they work on that is classified. Aside from that, drawing an airport with hangar bays is no big deal.
  24. I never quite understood the point. Just curious, what is the point of modelling a different aircraft with the flight model and avionics of something else? The only time you would even get to see your model is if you fly frequently in external view.
  25. Why isnt it possible to load scenery in sections depending on where your mission starts? I dont know how much the engine can support, but if it was for instance 500 square miles, why couldnt scenery be installed in 500 square mile sections? I know it would cause a pause when loading new scenery but technically you could model the whole world that way couldnt you?
