I will run all the way up to the MBT at a 100meters with a gun run if I have to. Its risky but in my experience if you keep some speed and altitude on you, I rarely get hit with a tank shell. When I do get hit with one its cause I was hovering and ignored the LWR. (thats cause Im stupid and hope itll go away on its own) Most of the time my biggest threat with them is the machine gunner dude. I find APCs and M2A to be much bigger threat and try to keep my distance. They shoot missles and their main gun does a lot of damage fast.

Thats not entirely true. Clock speed is not the only factor when considering a cpu. As a general rule each new architecture which comes out every couple of years whether amd or intel will give anywhere between 15-30% improvement clock for clock. That means a 3.2ghz core i5 will have approximately 15-30% performance improvement over a 3.2ghz C2D. I say this is general rule because occasionally there are exceptions like the early P4 that was plain junk compared to the Athlons and P3 of the time. There wont be any noticeable performance difference between dual core and quad core cpus with exception of a few software titles. If budget is a big concern, my advice would be to get the best processor you can afford that wont require you to buy new motherboard and memory.

Ive finished off MBT with AP rounds on a few occasions. Generally I wont attak one with guns unless Im out of other ammo and its already been partly damaged i.e. 1 vihker hit or some rocket hits. I also fire when Im about 1000m to target and I still have to dump about 1/3 of my AP inventory to finish it off.

Ok maybe im misunderstanding it but then why are there 4 pump switches labled forward/aft/left/right?
-
There will probably never be one on a helicopter but Ive seen military channel shows that presented some lasers being tested with specifically that in mind. Its supposed to be able to disintegrate incoming missles. I think shooting down aircraft with it is against the Geneva Convention cause the laser would blind the pilot permanently. Its carried on a large transport plane though.

aww thanks for the clarification. I was 90% sure it was the right engine that shut down but couldnt remember exactly. So if you have external tanks, do those also feed the engines directly or do they pump into the main tanks? I switched on left/right pumps mid flight once and the fuel indicator level seemed to creep back up very slowly, but it was so slow it was hard to tell by the time i got back to base. If I observed it correctly it looked like it only increased one of the internal tanks.
-
yeah actually what happened to me with one tank leaking out is good reason to shut down crossfeed. but otherwise any normal flight situation I wouldnt think y it should be off. still doesnt explain y one of my engines shut down unless they r plumbed to seperate tanks, and that simply makes absolutely no sense at all. I also was not able to start the auxillary engine so they were both affected by it somehow.
-
Just to clarify, the switch should be protected when crossfeed is engaged? I know in small aircraft Ive always flown with crossfeed on. Not many situations I can think of for tanks to be emptied one at a time.

Perfect stick for A-10C from Thrustmaster?

A floor extension at least would be nice. Most people wouldnt want a floor mount I think but no reason they couldnt come up with a plug'n'play extension. -
Any mods for This cockpit color? Pics inside

I think it was replaced with a cd player. Maybe AM/FM radio too. -
Well why cant they just take out the classified stuff and sell to both markets? Did the military tell them that the explosions were a little too realistic for civilian useage? lol

I had no warnings and the aircraft handled fine. Forward tank was about 1/3 full so I had plenty gas even when the aft tank leaked dry. The engine died as soon as the tank was dry. I tried a restart in flight and checked all the fuel pumps and stuff but it wouldnt start so I had to finish the flight on one engine.
-
I had a situation where I got a bit shot up but I was ok to make it home. Halfway home though I was notified by ekran that the rear tank was low. Shortly after it was gone. All the fuel leaked out but I still had plenty in the front tank. What i thought strange was when the rear tank ran dry one of the engines died with it. I always have crossfeed on so I thought they should have both ran on the forward tank. Can they not both share on the same tank?

ED just needs to release the TBS sim to the public and everyone will be happy.

The engine cutoff valves shouldnt be on axis. In real life they are either open or closed. There is no inbetween or partially open. The handles move in 90 degree movements simply to make it a very intentional and deliberate action to either open or close the fuel line. If you want to simulate this, you would need to build a custom control with a switch on both ends rather than a potentiometer.

GORGIAN OIL CAMPAIGN QUESTION?
sweinhart3 replied to hollywoody's topic in User Created Missions General
The last 2 months Ive been struggling with chapter 2. Ill get mission success for mission 2,3,4 then on mission 5 ill lose mission 5,4,3 and then Im back down to mission 2 again. Ive flown like 30hours on those 4 missions alone and cant seem to get passed them. Sometimes the missions differ and I end up with a 50% success rate. Apaches more often then not dominate the sky when they r there and my AI wingman is too stupid to keep himself alive. Course at 50% success, that means usually im dead 50% of the missions. Getting pretty frustrated here. -
I use my gun long before rockets. Usually if I get in close enough to use rockets I am well within their striking distance. I start using my gun at 4.0km max range
-
Original quote stated 2.7Mhz as opposed to 2.7Ghz. Thats slower than the 286 when it was out. Anyway, cant remember where I read it, I think on an Intel forum there are plans to release 2 more lower priced i7 extreme chips in July/August timeframe. It wont have 6 cores and not clocked as high but the multipliers will be unlocked and they wont cost $1000

Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List

So are we looking at about 9 more months for A-10C? Was the project halted in favor of FC2 until its release or was it being worked on concurrently? -
New DCS:Ka-50 and FC2.0 sound engine
sweinhart3 replied to Distiler's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Im not completely familiar with how sound rendering takes place. I fully agree with you that some onboard sound chips provide very good quality sound. I use my onboard sound as my home theater with 5.1 speaker system and Im not in the least disapointed. As far as finding a good one, I look for boards that have optical/coaxial digital output. Much of the sound quality can be lost depending on the quality of the DAC or the particular sound chip. I think, and I could be wrong about this, digital audio can bypass much of this and get its output directly from a software render. I myself use only the digital outputs for this purpose. Im not sure about cpu performance cost if any of using digital. -
Which version of Win 7 should I get for DCS:BS/A10C & FC2?
sweinhart3 replied to andyfoot's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
The only hardware that determines if your computer is 64bit compatible or not is the CPU. A 64bit OS will not run on a cpu that doesnt support the x86-64 extended instruction set (or other 64bit technology such as Itanium which uses Risk technology and Enterprise software). However, unless your system is using a cpu older than Athlon64/early Pentium4 in which case you probably cant run DCS anyway, you should not worry about whether it is 64bit or not. There is to my no knowledge no performance difference between Windows 7 Home Premium and Ultimate. Ultimate simply includes some extra features designed for business purposes such as remote networking capabilities and some things that the average joe wouldnt know what to do with. -
Ive noticed this too. Not sure but it seems like if there is an uneven amount of vhikers on both sides, it will only launch one until there is an even amount. Maybe some kind of safety measure?

Is there no free flight to pratice manouvers?
sweinhart3 replied to Veers's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
If you go to the missions tab, there is a mission called Shooting Range. I used that one a lot when I was starting out. Your already at an airport, everything is off and your in a cold start condition. No pressure or anyone gonna shoot at you. You can fly around as you please. And when you feel like you wanna start shooting stuff, there is a group of tanks and trucks about 10km away that you can practice on without getting shot down.
