SAITEK X65F NEW CONTROLSYSTEM
Maximus_G replied to huteng's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
There are 3 hats, all placed on the stick top. The uppermost one is smaller, the lower is bigger. Compare that to the real stuff (designed by those who know much about ergonomics) - it should be just exactly vice versa, to make it easier for your thumb to reach the upper one and not interfere with the lower one. They've copied the outer look, superficially, but missed something more important. And thinking of LO experience, i'd prefer to move the lock-on cursor by a ministick, not a hat, even if there are 8 of them. There's a mousehat thingie on the throttle, but there will be certain difficulties adopting it for this purpose. The lower half of the stick is... fat, that's an X52 heritage. Someone would consider it comfortable, but i'd prefer the traditional forms there. The "scroll selector" wheel is good to be present, if it acts like a normal rotary. But for some reason this silver shining wheel is placed under your pinkie. That's glamourous, but is that comfortable? When its usability is more important than its look, it's being placed under your 2nd, 3rd or 4th finger. And lately i've expressed my opinion on symmetric split-throttle design. I find these functional solutions... very questionable. -
Эээ... ммм...

SAITEK X65F NEW CONTROLSYSTEM

Yep, i wasn't precise enough. This one is the first to be presented by a... brandname gaming stuff manufacturer. Anyway, i already see something there that makes me sad. -

Ughm, judging from the description, the stick is TENSOMETRIC. That would be something unique among gaming joysticks. -
That looks like a development update %)

Чехи делают аддон про Афган. http://dslyecxi.com/screens/ArmA2/Arrowhead/ (осторожно, трафик) Кстати, обращаю внимание дальневосточников, да и не только, на сервер: http://vlgames.ru/games/arma/stat/

10 pages ago DAS is likely to detect contrast objects WVR; bright objects at tens of km (like AAMs with booster motor active); oh, and VERY bright objects at about 150 million km (like the Sun). Should be mentioned, these optical systems depend heavily on weather (atmosphere transparency) and background brightness level. All the ranges drop several times when you're low above the surface or trying to see something with the sun-lit clouds in the background.

ATI Eyefinity runs 24 monitors
Maximus_G replied to AussieFX's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
That's not the only drawback of the "big screen" stuff. I can name another one - big screen puts you at disadvantage in fight, if the screen's field of view goes beyond the human eyes's zone of maximum attention (sorry don't know the exact English-language term, it's physiological). The zone size is about 60 degrees only. People tend to see things far worse beyond that zone. It's easy to miss something small and stationary there... while the guy with an old 17'' won't miss ya. You can move your eyes and head around, but it takes time. Of course there are great advantages too. When your vision is filled with the picture, including side vision, it influences even your vestibular apparatus, you feel like you're really flying. -

I think that's correct, I saw it many times in reporter videos from Afghanistan. Insurgents take something valuable. For example, if there's a firefight, they sit inside a hospital. They've done it many times, so they can estimate CAS reaction time. All is needed is to leave just before the bombs destroy that valuable something. That's the way residential units, hospitals and schools get destroyed, and later official repayments for the dead relatives are made. One can presume what the locals think of it. It repeats again and again, unbelievably. This war has gone totally wrong. I've looked in the eyes of American soldiers there. They strongly reminded me the eyes of the other men there... 25 years ago.

It happens so frequently there. This case stands out by the number of deaths, nothing else.

Unfortunately it doesn't work in DX10 games :\ And there's a special official message about Vista: http://www.teamspeakoverlay.com/ --- TSDisp doesn't work in Vista either.

Saitek FFB coming 2009? Any one seen this?
Maximus_G replied to rapid's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Just the promising price, at the moment. Everything else we've seen so far looks glamorously, but that's not what makes anything better. -

Do I need a new sound card?
Maximus_G replied to Sabenza's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
That's a definite No! -
Installed it... and had an adventure of UNinstalling it. But it seems to be the only way to get "who's speaking" feature for TeamSpeak in Vista. Please tell me i'm wrong!

Seems very similar to G940. Looking at them both, i wonder, why none of them did implement asymmetric half-handles design. At least one company could offer something the other does not :) I've been testing separate-throttle control in LO:FC and found it to be of no particular use, except maybe aerobatics and engine damage situations. Being linked with rudder, it gives you very powerful, excessive yaw control. You can make strange average-speed maneuvers (track here). It's exotic, no more, no less. In general, you may need to adjust throttle individually to make your plane fly straight, when your rudder becomes inefficient ("damage" situation). This trick can be used with planes having significant spatial engine separation, like Su-27, A-10 or B-737 :) And... this situation is not that widespread. And of course you can simply put one wing lower than the other to achieve about the same straight-way attitude. What's important too, when you separate these handles, you loose comfort. More separate they get, more comfort you loose. You hold and move them both OR you hold just the right half with just the half of your palm to operate the buttons etc. Concerning prop-driven guys, they have to adjust throttle and prop with 2 separate controls. That's where you can get true benefit of complicated 2-handle design. BUT one control has to be the main one, used continuously, and the other is used occasionally and individually. That could be done with 1 main handle and 1 supplementary one. A combination like this (that's based on F-16 layout, cold be F-15 style too). You could hold your hand firmly on the throttle any time, you could move them both and separately. -
You could do that less expressively, right? It's good to point out the mistakes, taking neutral position and seeking for the truth; but it turns to something different when it gets to "you're nowhere near aviation" sh*t. That's right. Be the man.

Does anybody want to contact Driven Technologies and ask them to provide us more images of their product? :)
-
http://www.darkgovernment.com/news/f-35-cockpit/ http://driven-technologies.com/prod_pages/prod2.html Its throttle looks quite untraditional, the form is complicated. Wonder, what's besides this solution.

That one is a dated Chinese 3D render project...

How to improve FPS with my GeForce GTX 260?
Maximus_G replied to Speed_2's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I've checked this issue when i was upgrading. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=689726 As we can see, GTX260-216 delivers nice improvement in framerates compared to HD4850. 4870 should have somewhat better FPS than 4850 due to faster memory and GPU speed. But architecture is the same, so it would act very similarly. And 1Gb of memory is of no use here. I still would not say that DCS "likes" NV cards more than ATI ones at the moment. Just not to show the bias, 'cos i like ATI actually :)
