Well, I pulled the trigger on one. FYI, Microsoft Store offers a student discount if any of you want 10% off. Really didn't expect to be getting a new headset so soon, but I'm pumped! I'm pretty immune to the honeymoon effect as well...if it's not a clear leap over the CV1, I'll probably send it back. Will post my impressions eventually.

I'm really shocked by the difference in reported clarity. I knew about the whole subpixel thing, but other LCD screens that are even higher res than the Rift S like some of the WMR headsets didn't get nearly such rave reviews. Maybe the optics are that good to? In 24 hrs I went from definitely not buying a Rift S to staring at it in my cart. I was thinking HP Reverb, but then I'd need a 1080ti, and non-sit down games will suffer from the poor WMR software and tracking. This could be a nice little stopgap...someone tell me they hate it and save my wallet :helpsmilie:
-
Man I never thought I would consider the S but all these early good impressions have me really considering it as an upgrade. I especially wasn't expecting such reports of increased clarity. Please post more positive impressions to push me over the edge and I have a new headset to play with :P

unwanted joystick inputs to computer...
JoeyJoJoJunior replied to fitness88's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Not unless you're using some software to translate joystick button presses to key presses. -
Doesn't INS drift accumulate after some time? The mission I set up has me hitting the target about a minute after I spawn. Either way, I'll give it a try with INS drift off.
-
Hmm, I was playing around with the mission editor and Viggen last night, and experienced the same issue. I had to place the marker a bit to the left of center to get the BK90 to cover the whole area I set up. I thought at first maybe I was doing something wrong, but after repeated tries with the waypoint at the center of the target, the bombs would fall to the left of center at the exact same place each time. As soon as I adjusted the waypoint to compensate, it worked perfectly.

does Huey UN campaign actually work in 2.5?
JoeyJoJoJunior replied to jozeff's topic in UN Pilot Included Campaign
I don't remember having an issue with this when I played it recently. You should be able to travel at about 120-130 knots while keeping EGT in the green to keep your engine safe. I dunno if you're new to helis, but a mistake I made early on was using too much collective to gain speed. Make sure you pitch your cyclic way forward and trim it there to get the max speed you can at a given collective setting. Too much collective = high EGT. -
does Huey UN campaign actually work in 2.5?
JoeyJoJoJunior replied to jozeff's topic in UN Pilot Included Campaign
I managed to play through it recently, but it was very buggy at times. The AI flies too low, so he's constantly going up and down, and changing speed all the time. I think it did improve my flying skills trying to keep up with him, lol. I also had one mission where two of my wingmen died. At one point, the flight leader told us to meet up somewhere and orbit until we're all in formation. So I F2 to see where the wingmen are, and they've respawned at home base and are heading back to us. An absurd amount of time later, they join us and we move on. The only mission I had to skip was one where you have to maintain a hover over some trees while the best marksman in the universe is one-shotting your engine with an automatic rifle from a few miles away. After three tries of that, I gave up. There are a handful of really great moments in the campaign, and the writing and characters are pretty decent, so it was worth playing. -
Suitable Damping Grease for TCWS throttle
JoeyJoJoJunior replied to Matchstick's topic in Thrustmaster
I applied 767a to mine. FYI, while it's not necessarily bad it does add more resistance to the throttle compared to stock where it glides really, really freely. I eventually got used to it and ended up liking it since it reduces accidental inputs, but if you like the feel of the stock throttle, you might be better off with something else. -
I use a VKB gladiator mk. ii (non pro) which only has a pinky button, trigger, top button and one hat. I use the pinky as a modifier to extend the buttons/hats on my throttle and get double the bindings. So I would pick a button on the joystick and use it as a modifier button.

This seems to be the only cockpit mod I could find: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1909824/

Thanks for reporting this. Just tried to finish this mission. Thought it was rather anti-climactic since I just flew around for a while in formation before RTB, then got mission failed. Hope it's fixed soon.

FYI, I made a mod that helps with this: :) https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3303537/ https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3303666/

A new pilot model is coming. Until then, the old one was removed. Why, I do not know. -
VR Shaders mod for better VR experience
JoeyJoJoJunior replied to Kegetys's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Can't confirm if it does since I don't have it, but it's not a plane-specific mod, so I don't see why not. -
I was able to make some progress on passing IC, but can't get it to work completely. This is what I get before: and this is after: I'm using the following description.lua in DCS\Mods\aircraft\F14\Liveries\F14B_Cockpit\default: livery = { {"HB_F14_CPT_FRONT_05", 0 ,"HB_F14_CPT_FRONT_05",false}; {"HB_F14_CPT_FRONT_04", 0 ,"HB_F14_CPT_FRONT_04",false}; {"HB_F14_CPT_RIO_L_BREAKERS_08", 0 ,"HB_F14_CPT_RIO_L_BREAKERS_08",false}; {"HB_F14_CPT_F110_PANEL", 0 ,"HB_F14_CPT_F110_PANEL",false}; {"HB_F14_RIO_rPanels", 0 ,"HB_F14_RIO_rPanels",false}; {"HB_F14_CPT_RIO_L_BREAKERS_05", 0 ,"HB_F14_CPT_RIO_L_BREAKERS_05",false}; {"HB_F14_CPT_RHORIZ_02", 0 ,"HB_F14_CPT_RHORIZ_02",false}; {"HB_F14_CPT_FRONT_06", 0 ,"HB_F14_CPT_FRONT_06",false}; {"mirrors", 0 ,"mirrors",true}; } So it seems to work for some of the files, but not all of them. Not sure why since I'm following the same format. Fiddling with the order doesn't seem to make a difference.

VR Shaders mod for better VR experience
JoeyJoJoJunior replied to Kegetys's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Will depend on your facial structure to some degree since it depends on how close your eyeballs are to the lenses. 0.58 works well for me -
VR Shaders mod for better VR experience
JoeyJoJoJunior replied to Kegetys's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Works for me. Every update you have to delete all files in Saved Games/DCS/fxo, Saved Games/DCS/metashaders2, and delete or rename the dcs folders in DCS/Mods/terrains/TerrainName/misc/metacache/, where TerrainName is Caucasus, Nevada, etc. -
It's possible to get texture mods to pass IC check. You just have to set up the description.lua properly. I did the same for my Mirage 2000 clearer cockpit mod. PM me, and I can give you a hand with it. I was actually gonna do the F-14 as well but you saved me the work :)

I think I remember having an issue like this. He tells you to maintain a certain speed, 300 or 400 kts iirc. If you go much faster than that, the timing for the mission seems to be off.
-
Couldn't figure this out from the manual. I'm not one for doing the full startup checklist and am trying to come up with one as minimal as possible. In the standard checklist, there are numerous times the master reset button is pressed. For example, it has you pressing master reset after flipping the wing/ext trans switch to off, then pressing it again after setting trim and putting the standby attitude gyro erect. Is there any practical difference between doing all the stuff that requires master reset first, then just pressing the master reset button once after all of it is done? I don't get any warnings or anything when doing so, but I'd like to be sure.

There's different kinds of ghosting in my experience. The one from ASW is more subtle and results in visual artifacts in certain situations (like HUD elements, propellers). The ghosting from ATW is more consistent and is visible on the whole frame. The former is much more playable.
-
You said you disabled ASW. That's why you get ghosting. ATW cannot be turned off, so it's falling back to that once you disable ASW, and you're getting that ugly ghosting effect. As for the stuttering, that happens either when you cannot hit 45fps, or in the transition period between 90 fps and <90 fps. When ASW kicks in, it can cause a bit of stutter. I'd suggest putting ASW back on, and lowering your settings as others have suggested.

Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS HOTAS Review
JoeyJoJoJunior replied to Jabbers_'s topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The yaw and trigger went on mine in less than a year. Yaw was fixable with a bit of deadzone, but trigger just made it frustrating to use. Would either miss presses or double press. Not really impressed with the durability. The stock grease is also pretty awful, and should be replaced with nyogel or something similar. The TWCS has been great on the other hand. I think the VKB Gladiator Mk.II + TWCS throttle is the best budget combo, and what I'm using now. For an extra $50 the VKB is well worth the extra cost. -
Have you tried running DCS Repair? I had to do that when I moved my install to get things working correctly.
