Mission 12 - INS Alinement get screwed by ship turning
Lt_Jaeger posted a topic in Bugs and Problems
I guess I know now why I wasn't able to find the carrier. The waypoint (HB and MAN) is around 20 Miles in front of the Carrier Group, while it should be roughly 40 miles behind. The reason for it, I believe, is the ships turn for Pacos start, while oneself is still aligning the INS. With the first engagement of the Flankers it is already apparent that the own position is roughly like 10 miles or so off, compared to the Link position of the enemy fighters. This might accumulate up to 20 Miles during the mission. I did a autostart, in order to not screw anything up in the startup. As soon as YouTube is done, I post the play-trough video as reference. -
Paco doesn't RTB after refueling (Mission 12)

Was all in tolerance, never exceeded 6.5,no sudden onset, everything looked fine. To bad I can't check the video, but like I said, will do it again. Maybe Paco will deceide this time to take me home. Last time he almost rammed me twice during AAR, crazy Bastard. -
Paco doesn't RTB after refueling (Mission 12)

Strange, that WP was like 40 miles more to the north than supposed to be. I will see again into what's going on. Have to re-fly the mission anyhow, since my "play through" stream got messed up somehow. Is there a chance of breaking things if I hop in the back to check coordinates at launch and later down the road? Not wanting to input stuff, but there might be something fishy going on, so I would like to check. -
Paco doesn't RTB after refueling (Mission 12)

OK, I got a problem as well. Is chig updating the Man / DefP waypoint during the mission? I flew back to that point and searched like up to 40 miles out heading 015ish, even so to my calculations the carrier would have traveled only around 20 miles. The closest I ever came to the leading Tico was around 10 miles and I never spotted her, because the whole fleet thingy was like 20 miles behind the waypoint. Got very frustrated after like 30 minutes of ever growing search pattern. Most frustrating, looking at tacview, I was dead right, I would have navigated right on top of the carrier, if just of that WP would have been on the launch point. Long story short, I believe the WP is around 40 miles to far to the north north east. -
And don't forget that there are currently a couple of slots for Pilots and RIOs, flying the mighty Tomcat to even more awesomeness the next cruise. The squadron page is somewhere in this forum, should be easy to find.

It's great. I fly the F-14 almost exclusively and the VKB Grip is king. For other airplanes or might lack enough buttons (at least for all the diddle diddle out there) but for like F-5, Huey and stuff, it is just fine. I fly warbirds also with it, because I'm too lazy to change grips.

The final qual before becoming a real Naval Aviator (virtual), the carrier night quals. Again I don't agree with Paddles, I was not really prepared and the contradicting Orders made things more difficult, but hey, as always: Thank you, Paddles
-
Here we go, finally off to the boat. Carrier qual. I was a little surprised that we could go right to the initial. No holding in stack, no nothing, just straight for the recovery. I don't completely agree with the first grading, but if Paddles say so.... Thank you, Paddels

Hanging in there. Mission 8 is all about 4 v 4. No big bloopers I guess, but also not the best performance.
-
Same. I think he is just lazy and makes things up, all while playing astroids in the back.

Granted, but you have to admit that there are a couple of DCS'isms at play. First....6 call, then suddenly 10 call - even so one is taken out of the game, PAL lock, TCS lock on the other. I could say now, that I saw different dot sizes, which might be unconsciously true, but also there should be a Jester call if it is a friendly. Does this work all the time....more than doubtful, but still, it's always a balance act between gaming the game, in these highly scripted campaigns not to do the unthinkable to not break stuff, Jesters idiocracy, limited SA and abilities, visuals or the lack of in VR, and so on and so on. I would be highly disappointed if and when there were no difference between me and the professionals. I'm in this to have fun and enjoyment, which this campaign gives me a lot, and I actually expect things to go south, because I'm not putting in the time, which would be needed to be more professional. I got a job, and for being a fighter ace I'm a) too fat b) too dumb and most importantly c) way too old, but do I have fun like a little kid, you bet. But you are right, checking Tacview there is a lot of room for improvement, but for that I would need a human RIO because he can check stuff while I keep my head out of the cockpit. It is something I do by principle, I keep my TCS off, I would even keep the TID repeater off if that would be possible in DCS and me being able to build a better mental picture, because I consider this mostly the work of the guy in the back. I scan my instruments, take a look at the VDI for the correct indications of how I'm situated in the air and otherwise keep my head on the swivel. That is one thing I agreed with me early on in the Tomcat. I do the pilot job and Jester does his job. One thing I realy realy love about this campaign is, the GIB in the back is working with me (in the borders of the technical possibility) and it is a secret contract between us, what he says is true, for the sake of immersion. Do I get angry if jester screws up, sure, do I limit my combat effectiveness with my doings, sure sure, do I gain a huge enjoyment through immersion, triple sure. Long rant for a topic worth 2c. Bottom line.... I re-fly a lot of the missions, particularly the FAM flight, or at least parts of it, and it makes me better, BUT I will never be very competitive, because I put immersion way over gaming the game or be an air quake professional. It might be cringeworthy, but I most of the time get my enjoyment primary from the flight too and back from the exercise area. That said, on to Mission 8

And yes, I stay at 1500ft AGL for the break. I want to keep my virtual wings, no matter what Paco or Reflected say There was some problems with my stream for the first two and a half minutes, sorry for that. I will do it again some time.
-
Yeah...and get chewed by the air force pukes, no way. Paco can do his crazy <profanity>, I stay up there where law obedient citizens need to be.
-
Just to make sure, and not making a fool out of myself. The overhead break is also flown with 1500ft AGL in these missions, isn't it? Paco decided it would be time for a proper approach into Nellis and drops to 800 AGL. Since I don't have that F-14 drivers license just yet, I decided to stay at the 1500, which might get me out of the way of some cussing from the tower.

Free 3D Plans for an F-4 Phantom/Century Series Grip!
Lt_Jaeger replied to _BringTheReign_'s topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
@_BringTheReign_ How did you ever manage to make the alps "Trim" switch to work as a 5 way. From what I get, the center push is also always on if one of the directions is pushed. Currently thinking of disable the center button, because it makes setting the trim switch up a pain. Was thinking of getting it to work with joystick gremlin, but did not yet found a solution. -
Es ist das Kabel, hatte ich kürzlich auch. Kabelbruch in dem USB "Anteil". Neues Kabel und gut ist es.

Think the F-15 Release is/will have an Impact
Lt_Jaeger replied to Czechnology's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
That is 100% correct. The Eagle is totally unpopular with me and will be parked with all the other diddle diddle in the corner of the hangar, the phabulous Phantom on the other hand will shine very bright. -
Yeah, another AI shortcoming, but fully understood that you can't change it. With a human player, these setups are way easier, due to both adapting to some difference in setting up. Maybe you could make Paco wait a little longer for the next turn in, if that is feasible, but as it is, it is doable, but not always pretty.

Here we go. Another UNSAT on my grading sheet. How many times did I try the defensive perch, and almost every attempt I over stressed the Jet, or, if not, wasn't able to evade the first Fox 2. Guess I have to take it, that is no old men's game. That said, it's true for all WVR flying for me. Swirling my head in the VR HMD does not feel well, and I need a whole week to get my neck and shoulders back in order. Like I said, Jet flying is for the young and fit, not the old and creaky. Other than that it worked out OK, even so I see a lot of room for improvement. My new Rhino stick make me work this BFM even harder, need really pull now, and the former, two finger snap rolling, is now actually work, but for sure there is so much gain in immersion. These setups brought the fans online hard, to cool down the heavy working motors of the stick. Anyhow, here we go, start making fun of me
-
I'm done with that mission, literally. I still f*ck up the defensive perch, but the rest is ok. I did upload the video and will let YouTube do his thing to it. Get ready to bash me, there is some very nice sub standard flying to be seen. But one thing for sure. I'm too old for BFM. Neck is hurting like hell.

will it have FFB from the initial release (early or access I presume)?
Lt_Jaeger replied to peachmonkey's topic in DCS: La-7
I just received my Rhino and I used the VKB Gunfighter with F-14 grip until now. I bought the Rhino VKB adaptor. Out of this Adaptor comes a cable which need to go into the VKB black box, where the gunfighter base used to plug in. You mount the grip and that thing will still be recognized in DCS like you used to. Additionally the Rhino Axis will show up. So yes, it works, but you need a cable from the grip adaptor to the Blackbox. -
You can't. It is annoying at nights, but from all that was reported (there are a few request about the engine instruments around here) it is true to live. I like the night lighting of the A better, but hey, these are the hottest <profanity> on the marked by the "then" standard
