  1. Don't wait. There will be a shortage. And if you don't want to keep it in light of other options you would be able to flip it and get your money back. Don't underestimate peoples' desperation to play Cyberpunk immediately in all its ray tracing goodness.
  2. Correct, but I think if you can stretch that the 3080 is the sweet spot of the range. It will be a better fit for 4K resolution of the G2. It is an extra £200 and the upgrade for that is very, very significant for 4K: higher specification 102-chip with more CUDA cores, 6X memory rather than GDDR6 with significantly wider memory bus. And and extra 2GB capacity which is great for 4K VR. Of course, go with what you can afford and enjoy.
  3. Okay, it might be a translation issue. Colour vibrancy and brightness might well be a function of screen power and therefore heat build up. But the lenses - distinct from the screens - would not obviously have any effect on heat build up in the headset in my opinion. Who knows why the lens issue is that HP is seeking to refine. It could be anything: serial manufacturing defects, sweet spot clarity, sweet spot extent. Complex things lenses particularly when people's faces and eye position vary to some reasonable extent. I am happy that they are delaying slightly in order to get things refined and optimised. And the German reseller's communication concerning the delay was good / clear.
  4. Interesting. How do you know there was a heat problem? And why would the heat problem mean changing the lenses, or are you saying changing lenses was a convenient excuse for a more serious problem?
  5. FYI I deleted my post because it looks like these are only synthetic benchmarks, not actual tested benchmarks. Plus some of the results from his 2080 Ti vs 3080 videos are not consistent. Possibly fake news. Sorry for misleading / posting this guys.
  6. I was just reading the EVGA forums. Details - so far - are scant. They have not announced release dates, specifications or prices on anything. Just a few photos and Jacob (their PR guy) has given some vague answers to explain the product stack a little bit. Nothing too specific or too useful. Sorry.
  7. Yeah... not 100% sure yet, but I think I will go for an EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 Hydro Copper. Not sure about the EVGA water block however, so may go for Founders Edition and fit an EKWB instead.
  8. FYI. Uh ho! Rumour. No idea if there is any truth to it. Que sera, sera.
  9. I was using a Thrustmaster F/A-18C grip with a WarBRD. It worked very, very well. The springs were strong enough to handle the weight of the metal grip well if being used without extensions.
  10. Because of the way the GDDR6X chips are packaged I think 20GB is the more likely intermediate step than 16GB. Big Navi will only be using slower GDDR6, not the GDDR6X being used on the Nvidia 3080 and 3090. But regardless of the memory bandwidth the rumours are that the top of the Big Navi stack will be in the same ballpark, performance wise, to the 3080. However AMD is likely having to pay TSMI more for silicon than Nvidia is paying Samsung. So AMD might have to take more of a hit to its gross margin if it wants to pressure Nvidia's pricing. I think you can always tweak settings to use less VRAM if you find DCS using more than 10GB. Of course no one will want to buy a 3080 only to have to lower settings. But given that the 3080 is so fast and the 3090 costs more than twice as much then maybe lowering just a few settings to avoid exceeding 10GB is probably the smart move. Me... I can see me talking myself into a 3090. Oh dear! :pilotfly::joystick: And yeah... my 2080 Ti has depreciated very quickly. But my previous 980 Ti suddenly died on my forcing me to upgrade to something. And I've had two years fun with the 2080 Ti. I didn't buy it expecting not to lose money on it. Perhaps we've been spoiled with used sales prices on a lot of consumer tech recently due to shortages? (I sold my Rift S after 18 months use for what I paid for it, thanks to Half Life!) One final thought. With these new generation graphics cards, Intel CPUs being currently limited to PCIe3 actually becomes a bottleneck.
  11. And 3090 £1399 for Founders Edition. So the 3090 is expensive, yet at £649 the 3080 is actually very competitively priced. This suggests that Nvidia priced the 3080 to fend off Big Navi / RDNA2. Whereas maybe they are quite confident that 3090 cannot be touched so they don't have to try so hard on the price. That is one hell of a price gap between 3080 and 3090. Certainly also suggests room in the stack for a 20GB GDDR6X option between the 10GB and 24GB.
  12. Aerogator, is this still an active project?

Also let your friend know that F-16 is early in early access and explain what that means. I got the module and it is great, but there is a lot of work still needing to be done and it might be frustrating to someone new to DCS that is just expecting everything to work.
  14. 12GB RAM is a big bottleneck and an easy fix. My advice is don't dick around: just get 32GB. If you can't afford that upgrade, no problem, but definitely upgrade to 16GB. Is he currently using 2x 6GB sticks? If so you could always go 4x 6GB sticks. 24GB would work fine too.
  15. These button boxes look good. The fact that they have invested in custom levers and controls, and copied the Hornet layout in various blocks, means this will be useable in VR with a little bit of muscle memory. Plus they are focusing on some of the most flight critical controls.
  16. Not often, and fortunately the thought quickly passes.
  17. No problem. Just an idea. Have fun with the throttle. It looks like a nice bit of HOTAS kit, for sure.
  18. Can you not just remap 0-100% of the throttle action to the pre-detent range of the throttle?
  19. 10 years is quite a long wait for an upgrade, so I can understand you buying now. Probably 2 years time is the next time I will upgrade CPU - at the earliest. If you buy this year I'd pay the increment for the 10700K if I were you over the 9900k, but not go too crazy on the motherboard... mid range only. Main reason would be IHS / better CPU heat transfer.
  20. You ordered a VR headset and got a free massage? I hope this has happy ending for you.
  21. Running the Fighter Collection and founding DCS is not cheap... does anyone know how the Grey family made their money? I am just curious to know. It is always interesting to know how successful families got started.
  22. Yeah, I agree. An F-16 throttle grip and an F-14 throttle grip... That would be fantastic.
  23. At least, that is what you told the wife! :music_whistling: :pilotfly:
  24. oh. bummer.
