  1. A very helpful review Jabbers, thank you.
  2. Well, several weeks later and I’m still delighted with my Valve Index.
  3. That is a generous offer DucS2r. I used TrackIR for years. It is better than just a monitor but in my opinion is far too expensive for what it is. There are equally good and less expensive alternatives now, such as Trackhat for instance and I would recommend checking those out. Having said that I’ve just received my Valve Index and have to say for immersion VR wins hands down for me. I’ve used a PSVR for Dirt Rally and other VR titles for a while now so VR is not all new to me. I know not everyone agrees and it is a personal choice. If your PC can handle it and you can afford it then I think VR is the way to go and if I was deciding on one or the other today I’d rather put my money towards VR over TrackIR.
  4. Thank you for the tip imacken. I will set it to 90Hz today. Thanks Wicked.
  5. I received my Valve Index (and one base station, no hand controllers) today. I set it up in SteamVR. It asked me if I wanted to use 120Hz. I clicked on yes and loaded up DCS. I set a few VR settings and restarted DCS. I soon found myself in a Hornet. My reaction: OMG this is amazing! Clearly heaps of playing around to understand it all but I was able to take off, fly over the Hoover Dam and land. It seems so much easier than using a monitor as I was in the cockpit and could look around normally. I’m delighted. It’s easy to set up, comfortable, I can wear glasses with little trouble. It’s nice and clear and I can move my eyes to look around comfortably, that is not just rely on head movement. So happy right now.
  6. This seems like a bit of a downgrade from the V3. While I was quite frustrated by the lack of documentation I am glad I have the V3 especially if it is being discontinued and replaced by this version. The V3 fitted to my desk with the Monstertech assembly feels just right. I would not want to go back to a throttle on the desk surface.
  7. I arrived back from a business trip to find my VKB MK IVs waiting for me. I like the premium packaging, simple instructions and look of the product itself. They were set up very quickly by following the clear instructions and plugging them into my VKB Gladiator stick. My first tryout in DCS put a big smile on my face. I now wish I had got them much earlier. Having only tried some plastic rudder pedals years ago I had been put off the idea until now. I also expected I would need time to adjust from having used a twist stick for years but it is natural and intuitive. The VKB MK IVs are a quality product. Well done VKB!
  8. Hi Browny I am indeed a fan of the RAAF F-111s. That experience must have been something mate.
  9. Hi, I use the VKB Gladiator Mk II joystick and really like it. It's well suited to the warbirds from the WWII era, being fashioned after the Luftwaffe KG12 stick, yet has enough on it to do the very basics for the modern era, at least for me. I am adding a throttle and pedals for that bit extra and want to be able to keep using the Gladiator as I like it so much. For the last few months its all I have had to use, coming from the Thrustmaster T16000m. For the asking price it is good value in my opinion. It all depends on your budget and what you want to achieve.
  10. I second the Trackhat suggestion by MJ. I actually prefer it to TrackIR and it is less expensive as well. It needs an hour or two to set up but is well worth it in my opinion. Like CBStu I can also recommend the VKB-Sim Gladiator Mk II. I expect it will be part of my setup for some time. It is doing well for me with my WWII modules and is quite ok with the F/A 18 until my Virpil throttle arrives but I have much to come to grips with on that bird. I may get a second joystick that is more suited to modern jets at some point. The Gladiator also has a twist for rudders should you not have separate rudder pedals at this stage or not want to use them. The Trackhat and Gladiator may help keep costs down without compromising in quality. My son uses the Thrustmaster T16000M and matching throttle and likes that combo. I had just a T16000M for many years and it served me well. VR is the next big thing of course but I recommend some form of head tracking solution as a near must have and over a separate throttle or rudder pedals. That is just my opinion of course. I highly recommend the F/A 18 module and have the F16 on pre-order. I recommend getting just one module and learning it well before getting more modules. I got a number then the summer sale came along. I am banking most of them for later. Exciting times!
  11. I agree with xvii-Dietrich and so would like to see the Avro Lancaster. As one WW2 Lanc pilot told me some years ago, ‘It was like a four engined fighter’.
  12. Would you accept a busy granddad? I still have a full time job. My son has just been accepted into the RAAF and he and I are getting into DCS. He is in Australia and I am mostly in the UK with stints back home in Aus.
  13. Welcome to the forum Browny I second that request Hugh. Cheers Snowy
  14. I received my Anton today and on the first landing cracked my left landing strut, which I am hoping the ground crew can sort overnight. Otherwise, it was a beautiful introduction.
  15. Thanks Airwolfmutley, I have just starting using opentrack with a Trackhat CLip Pro today so will see if this is an issue for me. Haven't noticed it occurring as yet. I must say the opentrack/Trackhat combo is nicer than my old TrackIR 4 was. Trackhat takes more setting up but is much smoother and for me has better adjustment options and range of movement. I'm still playing with the settings to see what works best but so far I'm pleased.
  16. Sobe, how did you get on? Was Trackhat successful for you?
  17. The VPC V.F.X Grip looks seriously tempting. It looks useful for many other modern aircraft. I wonder how it would go with WW2 era aircraft. That weapon select dial looks very handy. Cheers Snowy
  18. Hi Moki, I am very new to it as well but I got AI fighters to attack by setting their task to CAP or similar and gave them waypoints over some ground units I was attacking. I hope that helps a bit. Cheers Snowy
  19. Thank you Strut. I really appreciate that information. It helps a lot. I'll of course back up the files before changing them.
  20. I have worked out the correct folder for me which is...Saved Games\DCS\Liveries\FA-18C_hornet\. The various RAAF livery folders go in there. I can get one of them to load up in the quick mission area and it looks terrific. I found a similar question on the Mudspike forum. Still have to work out how to pick individual skins. Thanks again for creating these Hugh
  21. Thank you hughlb for providing these great looking RAAF skins for the Hornet. It us very much appreciated. I'm new to DCS and these are no doubt a dumb questions but as 2.5 is now out of openbeta I assume which folder do they go in please? I do not have a DCS.openbeta folder in my installation. Once in the right folder, how do I select the livery in DCS World? The closest I can get is in the mission builder where I can select Australia. Can you select them as permanent settings? Thanks in advance. Snowy
