  1. It's worth trying to fly on pitch/power using the altimeter as your ( sink rate ) instrument anyway, given how many times I've had to land a damaged aircraft with no avionics...
  2. I fly the Huey into combat all the time, why would a H-60 be any better? I mean, I'm not saying don't do one ( although personally I'd probably leave it, no interest - my desire would be the MH-53 ) but that seems an odd reason to justify one.
  3. Although, that's damage on the right side of the airframe ( I think ) & the missile in the vid hit on the left, so.... either way that is a huge amount of damage it handled.
  4. http://www.defense-aerospace.com/articles-view/release/3/168201/russian-mi_8-in-syria-survives-direct-manpads-hit.html - that I believe is the aftermath of the video, not the crashing-in-flames result.
  5. Choice would be narrowed by needing a runnable prototype to take sounds from. The Tempest is somewhat larger than the Fury, but yes despite being around for years the T2 didn't exactly get much action.
  6. AOA at a given speed will change, flying to AOA will obviously mean higher speed with more stores.
  7. Only reason I brought up the 4x Sidewinder version was I think I read that it's the version they were originally trying to do in the first place. I'm a bit dubious of the RoI of a paid variant, but we'll have to see with the Ka-50 I guess.
  8. The Stirling ( which I don't want, thanks! ) was supposedly able to outturn some fighters at altitude... not a great plane otherwise though. I think we're limited to two engines currently, so a Pe-2 would be an interesting comparison with the Mossie & a Ju-88 if we ever got a flyable. The ones I've tried elsewhere have been pretty fun. Would still take a Tempest though :p I did actually think about an IL-2, that'd be awesome, but the resulting firestorm might not be worth it :P
  9. You missed a) the original I was replying to, and b) half my quote, so you missed all the context. Someone was remarking you couldn't aerobrake hands off, and I suggested you could if you trimmed excessively nose up on approach - and then mentioned how I didn't think it was a good idea. Pretty much. I'd like to see one of the *in-period* variants with slightly more armament to make it a bit more equivalent to the Mig-21 we have, but yes, no Singapore version with amraams thanks. I'd not buy a F-35 either - F-22 perhaps only because it's a bit of a crazy airframe, and I'd be more interested in a Tranche 1 Typhoon ( which is old enough that they're being retired ) than Rafale and that's again because the Typhoon airframe is nuts. Gen 3 planes seem wonderful from a gameplay perspective, I wish there were more - and the complex systems coding is a lot less complex for them.
  10. Well you could trim it very nose up I guess, which does not seem a sound idea during a high workload procedure like landing and especially not if you have to abort...
  11. Mi-24, obviously. Plenty of people eagerly awaiting it. And what makes you think WW2 aircraft aren't "eagerly awaited"? Again, 15E is an apparently booked-in Razbam project & ED haven't shown any desire to redo any FC3 stuff as full fidelity anywhere I've seen, at least. The FM for FC3 is already the highest level now, iirc - not sure what the data used for it is though ( I suspect at least the russian stuff is not 100% authentic if Russian grumblings about 4th gen+ have anything to do with it ). If they're not going to do an F-4E, please some 3rd party do a F-4J?
  12. If you check the roadmap it's P-47, Mi-24, Mosquito, F-4E, Me-262, AH-1F and that I think is as far as the plans go at the moment. No mention of F-15C, the one mentioned is the E model from Razbam.
  13. Yep, if there's anything updated past graphics I'd just want it as far as the Saudi export version they were going to do originally ( I believe that's just the 4x sidewinders + mavericks people refer to ) - keep it in period. The ex-Swiss ones used as aggressors have a whole bunch of differences, iirc ( built in Switzerland too, no? ).
  14. You won't get the Typhoon for decades, just like every other current fighter - we might even struggle with the Tornado ( apparently we can't get enough documentation for a SHAR2 & that's out of service everywhere ) because of beaurocratic awkwardness...
  15. Wasn't the TFR disabled in the GR4 update? that'd make me go for the GR1 immediately. GW1 era with TIALD would still give precision munitions. I've no idea how the German or Italian ones were updated, maybe they've got some interesting halfway between the original & fully GPS etc.
  16. I know the radar in mountains can cause horrendous FPS drop, I've had the same in the Mirage near the ground though so I'm not 100% convinced it's Viggen specific. As it does affect the Viggen enough that someone instantly told me to turn the radar off when I mentioned it, it is not just me... Add "roadside base rearming is very unreliable in MP" to the list.
  17. Well, yes, I mentioned that - the problem is when you send something other than bombers - we're not really *that* far from mainland Europe. They replaced the Lightning, so that left us with the F3 and the Phantom, or the US F-15s based here :p no surprise the EAP demo first flew a year after the F2 prototype...
  18. Can do that live, honestly - harsh signal clipping, phasing & some white noise are trivial in computing resource terms. I like the crowd-sourced voice ideas, provided whoever's responsible for accepting voices is suitably harsh in the selection. That way we'd get regional accents too.
  19. Tempest II ( any Tempest really ). I guess the Sea Fury & the Vampire are not technically WW2 even though they both first flew when it was on.
  20. The roadmap for the flyable WW2 stuff has been posted since the kickstarter - iirc after the imminent P-47 there's the 262, Mosquito, and Typhoon. My vague memory suggests that's the end of the plans, they have AI units to add of course. The Mi-24 is going to need a gunner who's a bit more intelligent than the current door gunners, may end up with AI crew in core. I find myself wanting to eject Jester most of the time, although I doubt I'd feel any different about anyone else's back-seaters... I'd love to know what a GR3 Tornado is. RAF ones went GR1-F2-F3-GR4
  21. I don't have too much problem with the Huey on takeoff / hover, but mine does seem to dutch roll continuously in flight ( you can visibly see the nose drawing circles ) which is conspicuously missing from that cockpit vid - so I think I do agree there's some sort of stability issue.
  22. Fortunately the C-141 has been out of service for years. It is more a strategic lifter, though - not really much call for those with our map size. I'd probably only buy something like that out of curiosity if it was on sale - a proper tactical lifter with some rough field enhancements I'd get because it sounds like something fun new to do.
  23. Tac fixed wing transports have close to the same jobs as transport helis, and there's various built-in and 3rd-party support for those. What would actually be needed to do it properly is better support for rough strips. The ultimate one is the MC-130, which does have a rather large suite of tools...
  24. Yeah, that or the Lynx ( would prefer the Lynx just because it's so fast & agile ) would be lovely.
