Upgrade from GTX 670 to 970/980
Witchking replied to uhntissbaby111's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I don't think we can know for sure until EDGE comes out. For now, I know a friend running a GTX 670 4GB desktop card (I use the same laptop version), runs it way better than mine without any big problems...just because DCS uses more CPU. So, you might not see too much of an increase right now? That is what I would expect....but it might change when 2.0 comes where GPU is being utilized more. -
I would highly recommend installing windows on the SSD. 120GB is a bit low. pretty much you will have only 40GB left after all things considered and regular use...without major software installs. With DCS reaching 36GB, I think you will soon hit the low space issue. Personally..installing DCS on my SSD has made a difference to loading speeds... I use a Intel 730 series SSD. its fantastic. But the biggest difference is general windows 8 performance. You will almost feel like you are using a new PC. So..I think that should be the priority.

I agree. I think at a point, the water was being modified by some of awesome modders here who managed to get some nice waves. but since, the water shaders were changed again. I think we really need some proper water in 2.0 with new maps. So that ships actually bob up and down and realistically move through water. Will be paramount for DCS: F/A-18C IMO. Carrier ops is not always in smooth glass like waters. Not to mention, I agree..the water used to look amazing back in the LO:MAC days, but not anymore. Need some next generation upgrades to it too. ;)

Building a new desktop for DCS 2.0
Witchking replied to Witchking's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Nice case and amazing rig. Ya man... excited to try out my first actual decked out gaming desktop. I am planning on this case. I really like the look of apple stuff and really like minimalism. lol :music_whistling: .. so I really don't care for the outlandish loud looking artistic cases. I know others may like them, but my taste is for something that almost looks like furniture...blends in without a hitch. :) . My buddy has the fractal design R4...the one I am considering is this fractal design R5 which has the nice updates we wanted for cable management etc. Current plans for specs: - Fractal Design R5 case - ASUS X99-A motherboard - Gigabyte NVIDIA GTX 970 - G-SKILL 4 x 4GB DDR4 - Corsair H60 CPU cooler - Seasonic 850W gold KM3 power supply -
Pretty un-necessary, but I am part of a number of forums in other hobbies,...but the current forum software is very antiquated, any chance we may get a new version of the forum along with DCS 2.0? Something like the latest IP board: http://www.invisionpower.com/apps/board/

Thanks. Its good to get some validation on the aspect of rear COG and how that affects flight. My fav flight documentary is the Su-27: the best fighter in the world. Check it out on youtube and you will notice this same issue of the pitch up tendency of the flanker and the evolution of the FBW system on how it corrects it. Its dumbed down for the public, but gives an idea. I know there are certain parts of the flight envelope where the engines just shut down. It could be negative pressure of the fuel (sorry...don't quote me on it...Its something I am guessing), but that is a realistic simulation of the engines. However, I know something where it has been said that at the time the flanker was introduced, none of the other western jets could do something like the tail slide because the engines would shut down. I heard that in a documentary somewhere.

Hey guys, I haven't had a desktop in almost 10y. I have been exclusively using laptops...but now, I am finally making a desktop knowing that laptops will never reach the performance of a true desktop at any given generation of hardware. I already just bought the CPU. I am planning on buying everything else this week one at a time. The main reason for this is DCS. I have never been able to run LO:MAC, DCS with everything maxed out at a smooth frame rate. Once DCS A10 came out, early on, my current rig (laptop in sig) could run it decently, but with everything enabled...shadows, tree shadows, v-sync, it could never run it well. I think finally this can crack it. ;) CPU: Intel i7 5930K Updates to come as I get other stuff. ;) cheers V :smartass:

Ultimate Argument AARs...
Witchking replied to BeachAV8R's topic in Su-27 The Ultimate Argument Campaign
I know you said its the last, but looking forward to more DCS AARs from you Beach. Your AARs are the best. :) -
Not needed...but a fantastic addition. Would be an amazing mission scenario. seriously...protect the hoover dam from being destroyed..lol... ;) But... question...with the new terrain...can trains be manually added and managed? would be nice to do some missions with trains as targets/protect etc..

Fantastic job and congrats on the release. Although, I am looking forward for the AFM version. So I am going to hold on until that is released....but definitely will get it with AFM. :)

But asking for a PFM+ aircraft model to be tweaked so that it flies "as expected" for desktop simmers is against the whole concept of a realistic flight model. At this point, most of us have never flown in a flanker or talked to flanker pilots. With their track record, I am confident ED has access to pilots and have more inside information than us. The flanker is a very unstable aircraft with its centre of gravity close to the rear, the aircraft has a natural tendency to pitch up in any airflow. This is what the FBW corrects. Trim is necessary to keep it neutrally in one line. The FBW on the other hand in F-16 is very stable...a lot more advanced than the early Russian FBW and hence that aircraft feels on rails compared to the flanker. I remember reading that the FBW is very rudimentary on the modelled flanker version. this is remember the C version which is a 1989 version of the aircraft. The FBW is designed to bring the aircraft back to neutral position, which is why it could explain the aircraft trying to resist and reverse every move you make. However, I also remember yoyo mentioning, the flanker needs to be constantly trimmed to fly properly. The moment your altitude, speed changes, the trim has to be changed as well. Anyways, I will check out that mission and see if I face those same issues.

Just because it is difficult for you to fly it doesn't mean that it is not realistic. This is among the first versions of the Su27 with its FBW system that is represented at a lot more realistic level than you are aware of. ED know what they are doing and have their sources. Just because its harder to fly doesn't mean it needs to be made easier. You just have to adapt to its quirks.

would be nice if this is applied to the all the existing DCS aircraft. :smartass:

Some details of FC3 AFM Missile Improvements
Witchking replied to Wags's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
I know that P is rear aspect, but M didn't have an aspect specified in the encyclopedia or I missed it. I chose M and used those. -
Some details of FC3 AFM Missile Improvements
Witchking replied to Wags's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
I think this is an appropriate place to bring this up...but holy crap the AIM-9M/P are useless...they get easily spoofed by flares. Is the logic strict about tbe aspect? I was shooting at 9o clock position from the hind's POV in the quick start A-10A mission and holy crap...in the 5 times I did this mission recently...ONE hit out of 10-20 missiles (incl wingman). Is it a issue? realistic? or logic that means I need to be rear aspect when I shoot these for the highest probability? I have been shooting all over...front..right, left...but I think not the rear. -
Whats funny is I just made the same mistake of coming in too low and ended up trying to put full power in the A-10A just yards away from the runway....didn't work..lol...smacked the ground...cartwheeled on wings nad exploded. lol...that was after a 1h CAS mission. lol
-
haha. The panic that is so recognizable when putting down the bathtub frog. lol! His approach was fine..yeah a bit low..but could have easily bled that speed with the chute and brakes. Matt... you guys need to remember adding in a new SPARK effect in DCS 2. ;) We've lost it in DCS 1.0 for a while now, needs to make a triumphant return...just like the amazing wingtip vortices. ;)

nice eye. I completely ignored it. :megalol:

really? where? which video? :helpsmilie:

Because of the pricepoint. Some people prefer cheaper pieces of products to buy rather than bundles. The FC3 product is more attractive at $10 than at $20. Not to mention, it is a good indication that ED / third parties can release high quality campaigns at a premium...which is fair for the amount of effort required to produce these things.

Su-27 campaign not installed STEAM issue
Witchking replied to Witchking's topic in Payment and Activation
Thanks for the quick fix Chizh. -
Ya..its hard...2nm is the max range on the pipper...but at that distance hard to get direct hits and will waste a lot of ammo. 30-40 eh? I was coming in at over 70...and then too much speed to pull away...so end up going straight into their bullet stream. Good to know, will try it out. :) thanks,

Hey guys, I have flown EDs sims for decades, but still not too good. lol. End up for the most part just flying around, learning the systems etc. Anyways... I am having trouble with the quick start A-10A CAP mission. The IFV BMP=2 tear me up for any gun runs. Its the two groups of 3 each which light up the sky... I try to home in from 2.0 nm down to 1.2 or 1.4 and then shoot. By then, one of those BMP-2s gets me. What is the best approach? Any tips for gun running these things when they are in a group? cheers V

same problem with CBU 87.... the spread is very small.

Hey ED, Just bought the Su27 campaign. I also have the separate FC3 modules, but I just unchecked those and installed the FC3 module. You can see here in the picture. I tried "verify integrity of game files". I even unchecked FC3...it deleted it...re-checked it..it downloaded 3.2 GB and yet the su 27 campaign shows up not installed. Any way to fix it? thanks V maybe it will help... im on the beta channel.
