F-18 grip, WARTHOG compatible
Witchking replied to hegykc's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
OMG! Make a slew control replacement and I will buy it right now. Seriously!! The warthog needs that mod. -
Just TM warthog drivres should be fine for both stick and throttle.

I guess the major thing is perhaps for ED to take advantage of more cores...not for sim purpose, but for offloading special fx calculations. I know this has come up in wishlists before, but what about havok? I know ED prefers to build everything in house due to code compatibility etc..but something like havok can surely take the destruction/damage fx to a whole new level compared to whatever we have seen so far in flight sims. PhysX being a NVidia proprietary tech is not as advisable as havok. I know Havok is CPU intensive, but perhaps loading off havok to a separate core of the CPU can truly open up new avenues for DCS....falling buildings, tanks wreaking "havok" in the WWII terrain.
-
I think currently the ARMA 3 map size is around 300kmx300km which is around the size of the NTTR terrain... isn't it?
-
Yup. I agree. The devs should take a look at arma3 with blastcore..see the paths of missile smoke...the way light illuminates smoke particles. Explosion fx/fire lighting up units ...casting shadows etc. Make dcs 2.0 future proof in terms of graphics.
-
OMG! F-14 would be fantastic. :D
-
 YES PLEASE! DCS has come a way with explosions...but I think it still lacks the PUNCH of something like ARMA 3. We need some nice particle fx with debris from the unit...ground.. nice scorch marks on the ground. damage models need some animation of pieces flying off etc. :p And more explosion wise..rock the units a bit..so give that feeling of impact.

Building a new desktop for DCS 2.0
Witchking replied to Witchking's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I didn't install the AI suite. On my first install I did and for some rason, windows 8 seemed very sluggish. The background EZupdate and all those other nonsense software was annoying...so I just kept to minimal driver installs only. -

Thanks Rrohde -
I hit the ORDER button ;)

LOL Bit. Consumer addiction at its best eh? So much for holding back..haha. That will be one beastly machine. Keep us posted as the parts arrive and as you build it. I want to see that watercooling. I couldn't justify watercooling myself....even at stock, these top end desktops run all current games well...and especially at 1080p. But hey...would be nice to have that cooling room for future overclocking years down the road. -

Thanks Bit. Ya....its a fantastic silent rig. The fans on the GPU were all high from start, but the moment u install NVidia drivers...everything shuts down and goes nice and quiet. Its awesome. And coming from a laptop usage for over the last 12y, man its nice to use a beefy rig. I always had some sort of compromise in the hardware dept, but not this time. I take it its not an absolute overkill rig, but it is definitely extreme for what I have ever made. Nice wine. I am not too much of a drinker, but this weekend, I had to get myself my first bottle. I have always had wine at conferences and social occasions, but never at home...and I have only ever tried pino, so I got this to try. Might have to get a sauvignon next time. The guy at LCBO was trying to give me a crash course on whites and sweetness etc. I never understood why they say pino is dry...I get it now. lol! because its min sweetness and almost just alcohol taste. lol. That's ok.. I like it. But I still can't do more than 5ounces a time.. not in a sense of I can't handle it, but I don't like it that much. :p regd win 10, no problems man. All drivers work fine. I just tried a bit of warthog training to brush up on the cockpit controls. it works fine and looks fine. Congrats on the 980 Poseidon btw... keep us posted when u get it. would love to see how it looks. used to get 16-19fps in the cockpit here with old rig. :p and this is even with everything maxed, tree shadows, tsaa, full slider for small shit :p , tree preload etc. even mfd pages at 512. -

finished my PC. Ran into a snafu with motherboard bricked in the first half hour. Thankfully, I was able to restore the bios. The BIOS giving overclocking error without any overclocking. Then, windows updating and updates failing and windows 8 running worse than on my laptop. Finally, last shot before I tear everything down, I reformatted, installed windows 10 and no asus bloat apart from bare essential drivers. and DAMN its hot! :) Finally, what I expected. Running shadow of mordor at 84fps avg. Up for a nice lazy weekend with some Pinot Grigio and CICGC and then some DCS. ;) -
I would do that too...as I purchased all modules separately as well...but you loose out on the Mig 29 and Su33. Although in all honestly, since the AFM for the other aircraft, I hardly ever touch those two and probably will not until they are updated.
-
That would really add a nice sense of dynamics...if we have little ppl walking around...trucks ...ammo vehicles.....the dragon for loading ammo and vehicles for loading missiles. For the Russian side..little ppl loading r73s and r27s on the flankers... That would be a fantastic sight.

If you look at the red symbol looking like an arrow in the center, imagine looking at a tomcat from top down view. Tell me that isn't what it looks like. :p -

Haha... yup! The detail will be amazing. especially at larger TV sized screens. But I think I have hit and crossed by PC build budget for a few years. lol. -

Damn! yea..that would be pretty nice. That's 16:10 aspect right? I don't think I'll be getting a new TV anytime soon unless the old one craps out...so I am a bit content that this GFX card should be able to push pixels at sufficient FPS for a HD resolution. It also helps that none of my buddies have made the move to 1440p or 4k either. Its peer pressure (just what prompted this PC now :P ) that generally escalates these purchases. lol -

Its 1080p. Personally, I think its enough right now. lol! I haven't been spoilt yet by UHD displays though. lol :p -

yeah! I have seen the memory issue which is one of the reasons that swayed me away..But enough benchs show that there isn't much of a price to performance benefit going to the 980. But well... :smartass: Yup! I am sure ED will make sure it will be smoothed out and scalable and optimized enough. Lets hope atleast. :p -

haha! All our addictions eh? We need our new toys. I personally use a 46" sony 3d tv as my monitor. DCS looks amazing at that scale. A buddy of mine was warning me about the 980...I should have done that with the 970. Forgot about SLI support for DCS. I spent $580 CDN on the 980. The 970 would have been $450 for a decent one that can be overclocked. So...a $130 difference. Although....not that much of a performance difference. Pretty much a max of 20% performance increase on the 980 from what I have seen. But well...its done.. I can't return it..makes no sense..so I am going to be sticking with a single 980 for a while. :p -

Witchking replied to Witchking's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
You know how you have those ..post purchase regrets... I am starting to feel I shouldn't have been hasty with the 980 and instead should have gotten a 970 and perhaps went SLI for another 970 in the future. Unfortunately the restocking fee of opened video cards on ncix is 15% which almost makes me loose another $75 which means it is the same price as a 970. lol. So I guess I am stuck with the 980. But well.. I got the 980 because I have always heard of microstutter issues with SLI setups and considering how DCS is notorious for microstutter, I figured its best to stick to one most powerful GPU That sucks. Lets hope EDGE deals with all those issues and gets it sorted out. I hope our gfx cards can run 2.0 at 60fps or so..lol...or else I will be a bit frustrated. :p
