Well...one thing I agree. I know the brake is a LEVER on the early flankers as well as the frogs and toads...but I do not know whether if it is an analog brake input.. or a "all" or "none" button style input. If it is analog, I agree, perhaps it needs to be assigned as an axis. But we won't know until Dima & ED decide and let us know.

Landing gear damage model and other issues
Witchking replied to Witchking's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
yup...the gear seems unusually strong...even compared to the frog and toad. -
How many times has this issue been brought up??....seriously...later era aircraft or later iterations/modifications have added toe brakes...but watch even the su 27 best fighter aircraft documentary on youtube... the original manufactured flankers/frogs/most russian aircraft have A BRAKE LEVER. That is what is implemented. If we get a newer version of the aircraft, ED will add it as appropriate. If you guys appreciate BMS for its realism...work with this as it is more realistic than what you are asking for. Use the pinkie paddle on the warthog for brake. It works well...try it out...you will get a better handle of how to use the aircraft and it is accurate to real life.

Hi guys, Have the russian HUDs been restored back to the unrealistic "bigger" size pre-1.2.8 levels? I know there was a bit of backlash back then regarding wasted space and smaller fonts, but that is the more realistic way of how the HUD is projected. Did ED revert back to those levels? My HUD in the Su-27 and Su-25T looks huge again and fills up the whole combiner in front. I tried zooming in and out and it did not effect the size. I even tried a repair, deleted the config files in my user save games directory. Nothing helped. cheers V

Landing gear damage model and other issues
Witchking replied to Witchking's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
yup... you have to taxi at less than 20km/h. This seems hard to do as the static friction seems high enough to get the aircraft moving...but once it moves, the throttle level needs to be dialled down or the aircraft speeds up to 60 or so speed. But cut it down too much to control, the aircraft slows to a stop...repeating the process. So I end up basically tapping the wheel brake a lot bobbing the nose up and down during taxi. Tires blow at higher speeds when you even try to use the rudder/change direction at higher speeds. -
Have ED changed back the russian HUD size to pre 1.2.8 levels after the complaining ? http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=123014&highlight=russian+hud+size I have tried repair and deleting my config files etc...but I do not get the realistic narrower HUD indication/fonts as we had them in 1.2.8/9.

Landing gear damage model and other issues
Witchking replied to Witchking's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
For sure. :) I just wanted to post it up so that it isn't missed in the tweaks for the next patch. ;) Also.... no heat haze at idle.... but I remember a post somewhere where Dima said "no environmental effects" on the engine performance in current state. So hopefully the little things/effects will be fixed/added in future. Feature request BTW...for DCS 2.0, it would be nice if you can see that initial FLAME when the engine is started in the Su-27. See the following documentary at 23:04/05 . ;) http://youtu.be/4Kk9UxB7eLE?list=PLBFAEFCFF50D4B1E2 -
Landing gear damage model and other issues
Witchking replied to Witchking's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
awesome. Thanks for the info. I understand about blowing out tires...but there is no damage model for the tire blowout? unlike what we see for the Su-25 or 25T...ripped or flat tire....flopping on the rim? ;) All u see is the same tire model halfway sunk into the ground/clipped into the ground. -
I notice that the tires blow out very easily on the flanker. If u try to taxi and turn at high speed. The aircraft is pretty stable...doesn't tip over on the side like the f-15 or frogs. Is this normal due to the center of gravity differences? Also.. Even when the tires blow out...there is no damage model unlike the blown out tires u see on the su-25/t versions. The tire just dips into the ground and that's it. Also I haven't seen proper damage to the landing gear even when I landed down hard...tired blow...I hear scraping but thats it. Also I thought there are new interactive tutorials? I only see the old fc era videos. Cheers V

I remember there were some shots a while back with skylark showing some shots of the new Mig 29 model. I am sure its coming. I can't wait till all FC3 aircraft have AFM. Will be fun to do proper touch and go's on a carrier without the wheels ghosting

Good to know. I remember thinking about the alcohol because even in the Su-27 documentary, you can hear the pilot say the little cylinder in the front landing gear bay door is full of alcohol. Pretty awesome and simple IMO...very nice to use more commonly available materials than the fancy alternatives often seen in western aircraft.

Pre-Purchase Su-27 for DCS World
Witchking replied to KrizzKaliko's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
It clearly needs some more "polish" (I understand it is WIP)....as the vortices look not as polished as the ones in current DCS world. The smoke is also a bit too shallow/flat over the fuselage...kind of like the lame looking ground dust effect for choppers which looks painted on and flat in current DCS world... Needs to be a bit more "volumous" (sp?). -
I guess I knew it since Flanker 2.0 when I started playing ED's sims. But I did do an exhaustive read through the manual, the tutorials etc. So I kind of was pretty familiar with the key layout and so on for Lo: mac even before it came out.

Yup! I noticed that too. I always liked the pilot body. I wonder if they will go back and add it in for the FC level aircraft. it would be nice.

OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG OMG OMG!!! Its coming. Its coming. I can't wait...I can't wait. I'l be away from the country till the 20th...so should be ready to go when I am back. :D Now if only DCS World 2.0 also comes out at that time...... . . :p #neversatisfied. lol

That was one amazing landing. Its awesome to see all the little details Leatherneck put into this aircraft. The wobbling needles while landing... the shaking aircraft while on the ground. Really impressive. Puts even the A-10 to shame.

Nice sale. Unfortunately bought my share of stuff for this month. Already got the Mig21. So will hold off on the WWII airframes for now.
