Setup tips for those of us with budget sticks?
Huckle replied to hayesj23's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Modifiers are definitely the way to go if you have a spare button. At the least you can map things like trigger to weapon launch also, hatswitch to slew function as well as views, etc. If the software is limiting, even a simple program like Joy to Key can be really useful. I'd suggest playing for a few hours and thinking about what you need in a hurry/all the time/requires two hands on k/b, make a note or two and then set up the mapping. Don't get hung up on functions of particular switches, all that will do is limit the use of what you have. -
I gave in and bought Warthog HOTAS after Falcon BMS was released, and I became reasonably sure that next DCS will be F-18 (plus my old stick was getting peaky anyway). Twin throttles suits Hornet, and not sure I'd be missing any functionality that the actual Hornet HOTAS has - there'd be TARGET profiles up within days.

Where to buy HOTAS Warthog in Australia?
Huckle replied to deltatango's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'm looking at purchasing one in the next month as well (especially now that f-18 looks like next aircraft). At the moment, there is this on ebay: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/130590759262?hlp=false#shId AUD 480. Which I just bought. The closest I've seen otherwise is: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=953&products_id=16084 (Which is just a short trip for me, so no postage would have applied) -
When I ordered the BS manual from Mindscape, it came almost overnight- I'd happily pay a premium for that.

But mostly ugly- a 2 ratio, ugly-to-weight. -

F-14 would come with carrier ops, which is what I'm really looking forward to- F-18 is preferred, but only because it's a single seat, and I think it will be this. Something that might be interesting is to have a RIO that is also an instructor- so you could pause the flight, and and he could tell you the steps to launch, or land when requested. -

Fixed. :P -
Germany... It says it right below his name. I guess you paid as much attention to the requirements of DCS games. Best of luck with your mouse.

This is like complaining that your model girlfriend's libido is causing you to lose sleep... if you want to swap the Warthog for an Xbox controller I have, you will enjoy warm plastic grips and sofa comfort- pm me. -

Key commands are not in the manual text, as per the Black Shark manual. Will this be corrected?
-
When can we expect the completed A-10 manual as a pdf? I'm looking through the copy of Final that I just downloaded, and there is no keyboard commands, either in the text (they're missing from the checklists) or as a separate printable keycard?
-
There was a Black Shark put out for FSX after BS came out... and an SE-5 package recently, despite RoF allowing you to kill things in France with one. Pity DCS, neoqb can't take advantage of all the efforts being put into FSX, hopefully SoW will be a lot more flexible with add-ons by third parties.

Is there an ETA on the printed manual? Aside from going nuts on one of the work printers, I'd like to have the book in hand for 1st flight.

Microsoft SideWinder Force FeedBack 2 (MS FFB2 XP32) setup
Huckle replied to ChromeWasp's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Unfortunately, FFB stick only works as well as the game. BS and Il-2 work beautifully with MSFFB2, RoF- not so much, which is a shame, the older the aircraft, the more useful FFB is. I've had to buy a CH stick just for RoF :( Really hope SoW supports FFB well. -
Creating the actual symbols might involving fiddling around with fonts, etc, but here's how you can change the text that displays at the moment: http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/2643164/Searchpage/1/Main/278234/Words/lua+replacement/Search/true/More_Realistic_Labels.html#Post2643164 I just have brown dots for enemy vehicles etc, but you could change SAMs for example to &*$%!!! as they launch.

Ignore the post quoted. If you're doing a full startup, clicking is easier than remembering three key-presses for each function for things that will only be used once in a flight. But for combat, and regular use, such as ABRIS, memorise a number of the keys. You don't want to have to look down, and mouse over a tiny switch while you're being shot at during a strafing run or similar. MSFFB2, is THE stick for BS. It's at its best with an added throttle and rudder pedals (plus TIR, hell- just post your credit card to an online store), but in terms of feel and trimming, there's no real competition. BTW, the Tutorial from simhq (which I've recommended to people before) does have the key commands in it.
