My DCS-experience begain with Flanker 2.0 back in 2001 :). I've been simming since 1985 on a Commodore 64 with Solo Flight, then onto Falcon 1.0 on an Amiga, and caught a Flanker 2.0 in 2001. Now, got nearly all DCS modules and flying in VR with my HP Reverb. I'm a aspsiring cockpit builder with home-electronics lab - Oscilloscope: Siglent SDS1104X-E - Soldering station: KSGER T12 - Ruideng DPS5005 lab bench power supply - DDS signal generator. - Creality Ender 3 3d printer for work.. working IT-tech from home supporting a worldwide userbase.. and for DCS still lots to discover :)

Has anyone got this ? Most importantly, how easy is it to setup and use with DCS? Anyone on the forum bought it? I'm considering buying, However, its really expenisve, and will use it 99% only for DCS. Share your view Tx!

I used to be a Su-25T fan, flew it for years. Now I am hooked to to the Harrier. To me its a modernized Su-25T. Both planes are fuelhungry, can take a fair amount of punishment, but the harrier is much quicker accelerating if needed. Disadvantage is the rather limited payload. The Su-25T which can potentially carry 16x Vikhrs + 2x Kh-29T + 2x S-5L laser rockets, totally overkill and likeley never realistic, however Harrier with 4x Mavs + gunpod could be more close to reality. In short get the Harrier it also does SEAD :)

LOl I''ve solved it. I upgraded my computer bigtime with i9-9900k + RTX 2070 video card,, then sold my Index. Now using only the reverb and running DCS in HIGH settings super smooth. With that setup the Index would occasionally still stutter. WTF??!!? Now.. Im happy puppy with the Reverb :pilotfly:
-
That was fixed already >=5 years ago. has any1 tested if all vehicles can swim? Hummers shouldnt be able to cross rivers.
-
SteamVR with the Index; - all defaults selected, 90Mhz refresh. As it was with HTC Vive ==> nearly unplayable SteamVR with WMR - all defaults selected, DCS set to 200% resolution. ==> Note supersmooth no stuttering, works perfect. Oculus Home - Uninstalled it. When i finished testing the Rift S. Above mentioned are on my i7-4790 with Nvidea GTX 980. Gfx card settings are all to default. Seems like SteamVR doesnt like my rig setup.
-
The Valve Index makes DCS stutter bigtime. nearly unplayable, even on DCS' default VR-settings. I've tried a Rift S, HP Reverb and DCS runs butter smooth. Even on busy MP servers no stuttering. My other VR games runs perfect with a Valve Index, only DCS that stutters. Suprisingly well the Rift S and Reverb performs on my ole' <>2015-vintage (used hardware) i7-4770 16gb with eVGA Geforce 980 GTX. You guys probably dont notice that as nobidy runs such low specs as me.. and yea an upgrade is on the cards. Is SteamVR + Index really such a resource hog?
-
Schocker...:pilotfly: my ole' EVGA Nividia 980 GTX + Reverb runs buttersmooth on an i7-4770 16Gb. However with my Valve Index, same setup, same mission, same settings DCS is a stuttering nearly unplayable.. Does SteamVR do something weird? Given my current setup, upgrading to a 1080Ti + faster CPU+ Reverb = ultra settings in DCS and smooth.

If I am correct, the Sea Eagle can only be launched only on mission-editor preset targets. Back in Su-33 could launch Kh-41s in similiar fashion only onto mission editor targets. That missile was <=2007 removed from the Su-33 in pre-DCS. Are there plans for updates to the Sea Eagle, so to point-and-shoot, so the missile would go active straight after launch, and engage anything inside its seeker sensor' range. The missile should in my uneducated opinion have a fire-and-forget mode. Maybe could be set as mission editor option: pre-planned target, or point-and-shoot.

2 months since TGP release and today's OB was...
pappavis replied to Hawkeye_UK's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
From a pure €'s cashflow perspective, the F-16C needed to get released. My ounce of opinion. Look at its pricepoint. The most expensive DCS module ever. Big price, quicker payback of investments. The potential buyers public is huge as the F-16C is hugely popular. ED can reap >=10years from the Viper. DCS: A-10C is nearly 10 years old now, and ED's probably still earning some €'s of it. I havent bought it, for simple reason.. I'm having fun with the Harrier & Viggen. -
Make me feel old, as my Nvidia 980GTX from (i remember correct late 2015) + Reverb is doing smooth, albeit everything set to low. Before I upgrade, i'll have to lock up the wife for a few days so she dont notice me buying & changing videocard.

Having evaluated 3x headset for a few weeks: Rift S, Index & Reverb . Index is overall winner. They are all 3 woth their money. What sells me on the Index is comfort, sound quality and FOV. I already own a HTC Vice so its a easy sell. Second choise, equally good is Rift S. Third, the HP Reverb with over-the-top resolution. Though not comfortable, and limited FOV.

Reverb not waking from sleepmode My reverb falls asleep, and dont wanna wake up. This happens when either quit SteamVR or my computer starts from standby mode. The only solution thus far, was to unplug the USB cable, but thats irritating as my computeris in a uncomfortable location. When I restart SteamVR, and then a VR game the reprojection shows the headset is tracking, but then on the Reverb itself only black screen. Am I the only one suffering from headset going to sleepmode?

How does one use a Reverb and Index on the same computer, obviously seperate. I've got both. My Index sort-of stopped working since installing Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR. Rather, SteamVR ignores the Index, and always starts with WMR. WHich works fine also in DCS. On my videocard Nvidia 980GTX are 3x Displayport, of which 2x used for the Index & Reverb. Both are connected to USB 3.0-ports. How can i use either VR headset, without having to physically unplug either of them?

happened to me too, i made a supportticket and sent it back for free, and got a replacement 3 days later. Now it works fine.

Rift S left controller battery & 12 Gb update
pappavis replied to pappavis's topic in Virtual Reality
Point is, the Rift S is very decent value for money. I had great time with it. However, not willing to figure out why the batteries dont work. Will I buy, or recommend a Rift S? Definitely yes.. just not now.. -
Two weeks ago I upgraded from HTC Vice to Rift S. WOW!! Rift S :thumbup::thumbup: BUT.. i returned my Rift S Why? Bugged touchcontroller batteries. On first time eagerly hooking up the Rift S, installing Oculus home and got to fly DCS. Everything worked perfect from get go. I was totally happy :). After about <>4 hrs of Rift S use, the headset complained about batteries becoming empty. So i replaced both controller' batteries with new ones. Didnt help. Everytime I put on the headset usage was blocked until i acknowledge empty battery warning. Then I replaced batteries AGAIN. No luck. Googled similar stories as mine. No solution available. After 6 hrs of headset use, it completely blocked usage, fresh batteries didnt help. Using my multimeter I measured 1,375v on both batteries (jsut lying there doing nothing apparently also consumes battery power). 1,5v AA batteries can be discharged by 40% so should work upto 0,9v. Oculus home insisted on an update, which I did, thereafter it updated firmware of both controllers & headet. Surrrprissseee.. same problem!! The headset is effective useless. I also have an ole' HTC Vive which worked flawlessly since day 1 never needed controllers to use it. The Rift S gave me huge improvements in framerates vs HTC Vive. Sad to let it go! Conclusion: Despite being VERY happy with the Rift S, i returned it. Steam notified me of my Index being ready for order, so i bought one. Sorry Rift S..

Index and Oculus S owners advice requested please.
pappavis replied to skarden's topic in Virtual Reality
Rift S on trial I bought Rift S this weekend, and have 30 days time to bring it back :). BUY it. Its a definite upgrade compared to my >=3yrs old HTC Vive. Using the F-18C as reference - Reading instrument labels black/white readbale without zoom. - The MFD map one can read the texts, thoug i occasionaly do zoom. - Green/black MFDs clearly visible. - HUD is clear as day. - Sound is tinny but after a few minutes, binaural surround compensates. No need for earbuds. - Spotting ground tanks/vehicles in a Su-25 from >=3,500 is visible. FINALLY!! - Inside out tracking works flawless. - Only 2 wires to connect, easy setup, and all my Vive Steam VR titles works great. - Bonus: Readily available in retail stores. No wait time, unlike Reverb, Index etc. Compared to HTC Vive.. the Rift S is in all respects an improvement. Except half ass sound. I used my Vive 4x per week for >=3yrs, same with the Rift S now At €450 hell yeaa. You wont go wrong. I'd like to try an Index but for now, its unavailable vaporwhere. -
LOL, so is my avatar here.. been using it >13 years. You still doing ATC Strasbourg? ;) I huess, its a reinstall soon :(. When i start flying the tinny sound is annoying, however the complete freedom of nothin on your ears and the d binaural effect of the Rift S adds to immersion. With my Vice I wore external headphones, due to lack of microfone for Discord teamchats. I have an Reverb on order, just in case..

Yesterday I bought a Rift S with option of returning it. Cost €449. I had a Vive since release May-2016. The Rift S is VERY nice improvement. I was reluctant at first, pushed off, waited for more reviews.. Buy it. Rift S: First impressions particular to DCS World; * Inside out tracking works flawless . No external sensors needed. * Resolution, able to read digital displays on the F-18C, cockpit panel text. This is HUGE for DCS world!! --> GREATLY improvement over the HTC Vive!! * No more freezes, no frame drops, super smooth compared to my HTC Vive. * Screendoor - doesnt bother me. Didnt notice it. * God-rays - none, if any atall, * Integrated 3D audio works well, sounds tinny, can be heard by others but sound is focused on your head. * Spotting ground targets trucks/tanks from <>3,500m finally possible!! >:( * One can flick switches, press knobs using the Touch controllers, the Vive wasnt supported in DCS. * Touch controllers is for me getting used to. * Negative point: My eyes get tired after a few minutes, couldbe IPD-related. * All my SteamVR Vive-games works flawless the Rift S. * Setup & install is childs play; only 2 wires: 1x displayport & 1x USB 3.0 Overall: At €449 BUY! After >=3yrs using a HTC Vive i can say. get the Rift S, for DCS its a worthy upgrade. For me. Prices; - Rift S: €449 - HP Reverb Pro: €650, consumer version to be <>€550. - Valve Index: €560 (add another €200 for lighthouses!) Test on my machine specs: - CPU: Intel i7 4790 3,8Ghz , 16GB memory - GFx card: Nvidia Geforce GTX98 4Gb memory - Disk: loaded from SSD. - Oculus Home requires 13,5Gb disk space on C;, cannot be moved, must be on C: :o

I'm about to order a Reverb. Does it support Steam VR?
