Look NineLine, this is absolutely understandable and ppl (including me) tried to avoid this kind of comparision by using cars as example. Flamin Squirrel asked for an example of the same sector in order to make the car arguement invalid. So there is literally nothing to compare except for other games. Since people argue that cars/mobile phones or whatever aren't comparable it was very telling those people were immediately running out of arguements towards the ID example. I assumed that before i mentioned it, wich was the intention to bring it up. If that is not legit, it's fine. No offense here at all, just argueing. My opinion is not ED is slow because there is no competition (i actually believe there is). The Hornets developement slowed significantly down with the release of the F-16C, wich can't be denied. I remember it beeing promised that the F-16 will not affect the Hornets developement and no Hornet dev will move over to the Viper, wich turned out to be not true. And as mentioned before, my concerns are not primarily about the delay, but about the Hornet leaving EA with a long list of missing features. Take the time you need to finish it, but keep it in EA until it's feature complete. I think that is what most ppl would like to see. Look at the Harrier and how long it has been in EA for now, so nothing to worry about with the Hornet beeing in EA for another year. I have no doubt DCS beeing the best flight sim out there, otherwise i wouldn't play it hands down. And i'm abolutely aware about the challenges and demands the developement of a sandbox study lvl flight sim comes with and those are more complicated than i.e. shooters. BUT exactly this should be a reason not to come up with more EA products as longs as the actual one hasn't been finished. I'm not talking about the Hind or the P47 at all, since theses are obviously different dev teams. But about a second jet (F-16) and the question is, will there be another jet before F-16 and 18 are feature complete? Not out of EA, feature complete as this is abviously not the same anymore. I purchased the F-16 because i was positive surprised about the progress of the Hornet and thought it would be the same with it. I was wrong and i never complained about it, even if there are good reasons for. I'm just afraid (and much others too) that the Hornet leaves EA, will not get the same attention as before and will take years to be feature complete while at the same time new EA jets will be developed. This is my main concern and i think it is eligible to name it. Btw. purchased a 2003 built M3 in 2006 wich is still running and looking like new. This is a bit longer than the DCS A-10C does even exists...;)

Old x52 vs. Warthog HOTAS?
VpR81 replied to Maverick1202's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Way better build quality, better button quality/response, better materials (metal construction), better precision, way better customer support. But the most important advantage over Saitek/Logitech products is, the Warthog will open the door to a world of modifying and customisation the X-52 can never provide. There are countless mods for the Warthog, such as a different slew control, different afterburner detents etc. Another very important feature is, that Thrustmaster uses the same PS2 connector for their grips/joystick base as Virpil or Realsimulator does. So you can use grips of these manufactors on your TM base as well. Slew control and the plastic gimbal are the flaws of the Warthog, but more than acceptable if compared to the advantages that thing comes with. I use the Warthog for roughly 2 years now and never had any problems with the gimbal. Stock slew control is useless, but there are easy to install mods for that. Maybe you wanna check out the TM homepage. Sometimes they offer products beeing sent back from customers without beeing used. Those have a second quality check, zero technical problems and come with half a year of warranty. They wont sell you a broken one. One of my friends managed to get a Warthog HOTAS for $250 this way and there was no signs of usage to that thing. No scratches, no button issues, it was like a standard sold new one, just with less warranty and he owns it for like 1 year now without any issues. If i knew about this possibility before i purchased mine, i propably would have purchased one this way as well. It's definately worth a look. Cheers -
Correct. There was an effect due to the loss of trust. And exactly this should be a warning sign to ED, since this can make companies go bancrupt. Then why is ID software as fast as other software devs who just use the Unreal engine in license instead of developing their own one? Not only that, ID software released a superb product, almost bug free, developed their own engine and still was faster in development than the very most other software devs not even developing their own graphics engine. This is definately a valid argument and makes EDs progress debatable. You are right, a car without engine won't work, but the Hornet leaving EA will have 21 features missing and not only one (like the car with only missing the radio). That would be equivalent to a car with only 3 doors installed instead of 4, radio installed but not working, only one flashlight working, missing blinkers, seat heaters missing, air conditioning missing, no back seats, no windows etc. Just equivalent to a car that has also 21 components missing, while you can still drive it with the risk it stops working because of some components are still WIP and don't work as they should. Don't get me wrong, i love the DCS Hornet and i'm more upset about the Hornet leaving EA without beeing feature complete, than about the delay. If they need more time, maybe till end of 2021, it's ok with me as long as they deliver a good product. BUT calling a (software) product out of EA while it is not finished is simply false. And this is what is very dissapointing to me, and obviously to a lot of other people. I also have no problem at all with EA and WIP software and i'm totally aware about what it means and what i accepted by purchasing EA games/DLCs. DCS is by far not the only game i play and also not the only game i play in beta/EA and i can assure you, that the EA politics of ED is unique among the ones i own. Not to talk about that other software devs (like ID software) DO NOT start their next EA developement before the actual one has been finished. Plain and simple.

After this post, i'm not sure if this is clear. I'm talking about the RDR/BARO Alt switch for the HUD, to switch between displaying radar and baro altimeter on the head up display...
-
In other terms, there is no sign of lost trust.
-
Incorrectfuel usage data, cheat on tests, lied to customers = Hornet feature complete by the end on 2020 Hornet leaving EA while not beeing feature complete = car is sold to customers while missing engine/transmission... Please tell me a car manufactor that sold cars without engine/transmission and told customers the car is out of testing phase. There isn none.

And still VW has record sales worldwide again. Strange world.
-
ED = company developing and selling products Car manufactor = company developing, producing and selling products DCS F/A-18 = product Car= product ID Software / DOOM: Developement staretd in 2014, released 2016 (feature complete!, almost bug free - i experienced none, played through 2 times + 200hrs online). Own graphics engine ID Tech 6 (technology) development in tandem, still delivered in time and with outstanding quality. I'll give to ED, that Flight sims are more complicated than Shooters but this still does not justify the delays we got with the Hornet and by far not the "new" definition of EA. And developing a graphics engine on the ID Tech 6 level is hard work as well.

No problem. Since Majapahits BARO ALT function works as intended, i'm more and more convinced it is a faulty installation/corrupted file. I'm gonna try his suggestion and installation repair. If that wont help, i'll propably give up on this, remap the switch and use the ALT/BARO toggle function instead... Not as nice as the 2 way switch solution, but better than grabbing the mouse for that. However, i will report the results.

Well spoken! +1 This is a faulty excuse! Aston Martin uses Mercedes Benz V8 engines in their cars, saving the developement of engines, while Mercedes has to develope both, the car and the engine. Still Mercedes is able to deliver everything, the engines for Aston Martin, the engines they use in their own cars and their cars in time. So what?
-
Yes, i experienced that as well for buttons, wich is why i use the "pulse" function only for toggle switches. I'm going to try this out. It sounds promising, but still does not explain why pressing LSHIFT+V (my keybind for BARO ALT) on the keyboard does not work either. No, haven't tried this. But will try this out tomorrow. Thanks again for your help guys! Much appreciated. Cheers

Beautiful for the manufactor, or for the customer?

That's sad to hear, as all of their throttles look pretty nice and as if they are from high quality. Hand made isn't bad in general, often it's a sign of high quality and exclusive manufacturing. Every Ferrari is completely hand made. And i wouldn't call these cars beeing from bad quality. Very dissapointing this doesen't count for Throttletek... I was thining about getting in contact with them, but you just convinced me to stay with my Warthog throttle.

Thanks for the informations. I'm going to take a look into this though.

The nuke dropping story has some good reasons. Germany accepted to be involved into nuclear weapons delivery and therefore recieved power of co-decision from the US, when and where nukes are dropped. The french rejected that power of co-decision for their nukes, so germany better stay with the USA in that term. The F-35 Story with turkey is nothing to worry about. Erdogan tried to fool his allies and under his power, turkey has become a troublemaker and nothing more. The decision to ban the turks from the F-35 project is absolutely correct and necessary. This has nothing to do with political pressure (unlike China tries if there is only the smalles sign of critism towards the red facist regime in beijing), but with protecting high end military technology knowledge from beeing impart to Russia or China by Turkey. Turkey is just not dependable and can't be trusted anymore, plain and simple.

A Good Microphone for Online playing
VpR81 replied to gizmo's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Not a problem. On holiday this week, so got plenty of time :) -
Teamspeak issue? Never heard about it. Do you have a link? Just out of curiousity, why would you include the pedals into your Target profile, while axis are mapped in DCS anyways? IMO there is no need for that and pedals can be excluded from the profile without missing any functions. Correct me if i'm wrong...
-
Yes, it was a nice offer. Pretty disapointing it's not available anymore. Still hoping it's coming back to the shop someday, but their shop is closed right now due to the Covid-19 pandemy and no orders are possible for any of their products. Thanks for the link btw. i'll take a look at it. edit: 55 US-$/50 €? Wow, that's realy breath taking. Dammit, if i only ordered the one from UK back when it was available...

A Good Microphone for Online playing
VpR81 replied to gizmo's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yes, pretty expensive for "ordinary" headphones, but still not the top notch. The sound quality is excellent and the best for headphones i ever experienced. But as i said, pretty much overkill for only playing PC games. I used to make hardtechno with turntables in younger days and my affinity for sound quality is a leftover from these years. Otherwise, i wouldn't spend that much money for a headphone as well, i guess. Sennheiser is also a very good manufactor for headphones and i think they have a few headphones below 100$. Maybe you wanna take a look at their products. Not sure if Beyerdynamic has headphones in that price range, but is propably worth a google search. Good luck with your decision! Cheers -
How to assign toggle switches for Thrustmaster Warthog?
VpR81 replied to CommandT's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
With ingame i meant inside the DCS contoller settings. The switch positions you mentioned not beeing recognised by DCS aren't recognised as buttons in windows either. You will need Target or another mapping software, i.e. Joystick Gremlin to map those. Target is the domestic software of TM and JG is a 3rd party software not dependant on manufactors. Target is a bit annoying in the beginning and you'll need to get used to it. I did by trial and error and i remember watching a youtube tutorial, wich was very helpful. I will see if i can find it again, as it is about 2 years ago. I'm not sure why you can't switch to the Target window when DCS is running. I had no issues with that while mapping, besides the DCS open beta crashed sometimes doing it. Again, annoying but realy worth the work IMO. I have all switch positions mapped in Target, not only those wich aren't recognised by the game. The advantage of that is, that you won't loose your mappings if there are issues with a DCS update. I've read about people that lost their mappings and had to start from scratch after certain DCS updates. A way to map your switches "ON" and "OFF" position in DCS is to modify the .lua file of the specific aircraft you wanna fly. I.e. for the Hornet (for other aircrafts as well), there is a "joystick special" category in the controller setup. Those will make use of both switch positions of the Warthog, but the available functions are very limited. I remember the APU on/off special joystick function to work with both switch positions. By modifying your Hornet .lua file, you can add more of these "joystick special" commands to the mapping list and make the switches work as intended. I'd recommend to have a backup of the original file, as well as of the modified one. Just in case something goes wrong or an update will reset your .lua file. But to be honest, i have no clue about .lua modification, so these infos might not be 100% accurate. There are some real experts on this here on the forum that might help you out if you want to try it. A lot of ppl also share their .lua file setting on the forum, just ask for it and i'm sure someone will be glad to assist you. The DCS community is in general very helpful indeed. I'm sure once you discovered a solution and have your HOTAS work as intended, you'll forget about the starting issues pretty fast. Was the same for me (and a lot of others) in the beginning, so don't give up. You won't regret. edit: This the tutorial i watched back then. As stated above, was very helpful with getting into Target https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-t_aRlS5Jvc Cheers -
Throttletek offers a F-14 Tomcat throttle replica, but it is very expensive. Price is 800 US-$.Besides that they have only civilian airliner throttle replicas in stock. edit: according to their homepage, they offer custom throttles production. You tell them what you want and they will make one for you. At least this is how i interpret this offer. https://throttletek.com/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghmjbvIElsQ

So i started DCS without target running but there are no mappings on the physical controller. I clicked on category delete for the Warthog Throttle to make sure i have not missed anything, but the problem remains. BARO ALT function can be assigned and input is recognised in the DCS controller settings, means i press the buttons on the keyboard/toggle switch on the throttle and it jumps to the BARO ALT line in the controller setup, but there is no effect when trying that in the pit. So i'm pretty sure this is either a faulty installation, or a bug that came up with the last update. If anyone could try this out in his settings/pit would be much appreciated. Still thanks for all the attempts to help me out...
-
I'm aware of that. As i stated above, i have every switch position mapped in target, but for the BARO ALT function, there is no effect ingame since the last update. The input is still recognised in the DCS control settings, but has no effect ingame. Not when using the switch on the throttle and not when pressing the keys on my keyboard.
