Thanks, but what constitutes that? Electronics (IFF) or "your eyes"? I just want to make sure I understand what "positive" means
-
Also, it'd be interesting to know what the ROE says about "some sort of clear separation", because this seems a bit arbitrary or subjective...but, yes some common sense about firing into a furball is called for
-
Yep and Boresight offers STT and IFF, so you're not really guessing
-
Ok maybe my fault here, but I always took ACM to mean WVR (Within Visual Range)...it'd be nice if there's a list of abbreviations or acronyms and their meaning...:)
-
Yes, that's why I said provided you're within the envelope (ACM)...but what did you mean about "PID"?
-
Why not use boresight..if you get a diamond, bang, done...if you get square, relock, bang done..all this can be done with boresight quickly...provided , of course, that you're within this radar mode's envelope
-
Interesting..what if you also had heaters? Would you still go with the 120? Let's say, for example, you get a call for help from your wingman and you arrive seeing he's in a guns fight and you have a 120 and a 9M. Which would you use and what radar mode?
-
Yeah, exactly what I was thinking of. Just wondering how much this new feature is worth...not much I guess
-
Furthermore, this method does not involve IFF, correct? Well, Boresight does. So how is Maddog better than Boresight or ANY of the STT methods? I was just wondering if this method would be useful for when your radar is knocked out? Would we be able to deploy with no radar in this fashion?
-
Yes, thought as much. But then where would you place this new "Visual" mode in efficacy level with TWS and Boresight ACM mode? I mean, isn't our current BST mode better at picking and choosing close proximity tgts than this Maddog method? And, in a furball, I'd hate to even risk using this for fear of a friendly kill. So, I'm wondering what scenarios this would be better than TWS or BST (ACM)

When the missile comes off the rail in HPRF (Maddog) mode, what will it do if it's target is destroyed prior to impact? Will it seek another target? It seems to me that you could waste a lot of ordinance using this mode. If I have four missiles and four incoming bandits that fit within the 10nm circle, will the missiles each take a target and reject others that are already locked, or could all four go to the same bandit?

[REPORTED] Jet Blast Deflector rises without aicraft on catapult

Why do I have the image of deck crew, hand cranking this down, in my head? I'll wager, there's a button that does this:thumbup: -
[REPORTED] Jet Blast Deflector rises without aicraft on catapult
Alphamale replied to Alphamale's topic in General Bugs
Yes, I have tried that and it lowers the JBD...but that doesn't answer the question of what was the JBD doing up when I came in for a landing? Forget the raising of JBD when asking for permission to take off, for just a moment and focus on why in the hell was a deflector UP when I was landing??? TWICE ... just watch the videos -
[REPORTED] Jet Blast Deflector rises without aicraft on catapult
Alphamale replied to Alphamale's topic in General Bugs
It should be the other way around...the flight deck should not respond to Request for Takeoff, unless you're attached to the cat..IRL, they wouldn't raise the deflector if there was nothing to launch...now if the phantom jet has already been listed as a bug, then fine....otherwise, it is one -

Alphamale replied to Alphamale's topic in General Bugs
What about the landing then? Why are they up when I was landing? And asking for launch permission has never raised the deflectors before even when I was in parked area....maybe I'm thinking of Engine startup, but the landing is still curious -
[REPORTED] Jet Blast Deflector rises without aicraft on catapult
Alphamale replied to Alphamale's topic in General Bugs
Ok, but it is very long as after I first land, I do some experimenting with Kneeboard pages and control buttons but eventually, I ask for permission to launch and you can actually see the deflector rising before I even get to the cat...then I fly to Khasab and finally fly back to the Stennis where I nearly collide with another blast wall as I'm landing...I submitted the video because I find that the in-game track files are unreliable...they actually change what happened...you could be landing and the recorded track will show you flying off the runway...it's as if the track gives you control and you eventually hit something...this is especially noticeable while you fast forward...but it's your dime.... carrier_practice_23.trk -

No, you have them upside down

Boresight is working...it's about the only ACM mode that is
-
Depends on the closure velocity. If your target's aspect is head on, and you're tach-ing it towards him, you'll most likely get a flashing cue sooner than if he's running from you. Only you can't count on him continuing to fly right at you.

New Update 08/01/2018 affects?
Alphamale replied to Alphamale's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
That was exactly what I was doing...you know, it's funny I can remember paying over $100 for the map and module and was well aware that it was EA...but I do not remember paying that money to work for ED and fix the problems THEY made...would have been honorable of them to acknowledge their mistake and at the very LEAST put out a step by step direction for fixing this or even endorsing one of the other non-ED members' solution...but not a peep....the speed/ease of the fix is NOT the problem...it's that they don't appreciate US enough to apologize when they screw up -
How is it to be used with the Hornet? Go find it
