Couple days ago when I tried to start DCS (Steam version) it had forgotten all of my purchased module authorizations, even though I was logged in. I shut down the game, re-started, and it seemed ok, but it had forgotten a couple graphical settings. I'm pretty sure I have my settings back to where I had them before, which is almost all maxed out. My issue now is that now while flying I'm seeing randomly my cpu spike to 100% usage for a couple seconds, then go back down to 40-60% like normal. This didn't happen before Sunday 09-20-20. Did you guys change anything on your end in anticipation of a patch maybe? Edit: I have a really good cooler on my cpu so even at 100% I'm only pushing 68C, but I'd rather not fly around at 100% usage if it can be avoided... Edit 2: It's possible that I was using my other custom save slot for the graphics settings to get the higher fps, which would have lower cpu usage too.... I can't fully remember. Whatever the issue, it started when DCS forgot my module authorizations and then forgot some of my graphical settings.

Yeah so my assumption was probably right: dogfight servers have gameified the sim. Again not that they can’t beat me even with g limits, but I just had the feeling that multiplayer was not the end all be all. In essence this isn’t much different than fighting games. Anything within the coding that can be exploited will be exploited for victory, unless tournaments regularly impose rule sets. I’m practicing and hoping for one victory lol. -
The negative curve makes the collective/throttle more responsive in the most important area IMO: down low.
-
I selfishly suggest a bundle deal, Hind + Syria, with a small discount. ;)

Here are my curves for the UH-1H Huey. Be aware I have cheap stick/throttle, but high end rudder pedals: Collective- Deadzone: 0 Sat x: 100 Sat y: 100 Curvature: -14 Slider: Check Cyclic Pitch- Deadzone: 5 Sat X: 100 Sat y: 85 Curvature: 0 Cyclic Roll- Deadzone: 5 Sat x: 100 Sat y: 85 Curvature: 0 Rudder- Deadzone: 0 Sat x: 100 Sat y: 100 Curvature: -20 Just posting this in case a new helo pilot wants some help with making the controls more manageable. Some of this was pulled from Chuck's guide and then modified. The rudder curvature is specifically my own to combat the low responsiveness of the sim rudder.

Just voted something else because you forgot the mirage ;)

Ugh, don't remind me how badly I want the uh60. I hate you both. :D

Well landing on the back on a ship is an extra step in your rotary wing advancement. I'm not a good teacher in this regard, but one trick is to come to a hover parallel to the landing pad (to the left or right of it) and then match the speed of the ship. Once you're in a comfortable slow speed , matching the ship, and at a low altitude, just shift over to the pad and touch down quickly.

Let me clarify for myself and others who either sometimes, or always, use auto-start. It saves time for me because I'm in my 30s and I just don't have the brain capacity, or time to improve my brain capacity, to be able to fit in the manual start procedures for all the modules I've bought. I just can't remember all of it all the time. I have to focus on a few aircraft. I'm pretty confident that when other people say they don't have the time, they're mostly talking about "the time to learn and fully commit to memory" the manual start features for ALL the full fidelity aircraft they buy. I can start a huey probably with my eyes closed. I can start the mirage, ignoring the INS alignment, pretty easily. I can start the 109. The rest? No. Why? Because I don't fly them enough to remember, and I'm not going to spend an excessive amount of time working on the manual start procedure when I'm not committed to learning and committing to memory all of these aircraft. When I bought the F-14 I thought I was sticking with just it. So I learned most of that jet, but then I got the F-18 and thought it was a far better and far more realistic module. So I stopped working the tomcat and committed to the F-18. But then I felt like the jet was underpowered and not accurately modeled, and that in general it was too sterile, too boring to fly. So I got the mirage. While I'm focused completely on the mirage, all the stuff I learned about start procedures slip from memory on the other jets. I can't fly all of these jets FULL time and keep the most BORING part of their simulation memorized. Why is it hard for everyone to understand that people are different and use the product differently? And goodness sake, you have actual pilots in here telling you that in real life sims they skip the start up procedure. And these real life pilots are skipping the start up procedure in DCS! Lol. That doesn't mean we , as a customer base, don't expect ED and 3rd party to model the start procedure. I expect the systems in these $80-100 aircraft to be near fully modeled. But I'm not going to use every feature of this sim 100% of the time.

I'll give you a shiny new nickel if you give me a release date :music_whistling:

Well that's good news.

I mean he said the gaz decelerated way too fast, which is part of the many complaints about this module. Plus polychop are putting a brand new flight model into the OH-58D and using that info to rebuild the gaz right? So don't bust our balls with this stuff about the gaz being this glorious module. I think we can be critical of the people we're giving lots of money to in order to ensure a better product, while all still being civil of course. Best wishes.

We looking at 2020, early 2021, late 2021?

Is it possible that the dogfight players have tried to pigeon-hole their airframes into a certain style of guns-only dogfighting when they weren't meant to really fly that way? In other words, they've gameified their sim? Just an assumption of mine. Not sure either way. Even if I was flying one of the other jets I'd be ok with the rules. I'd just go practice. Edit: So I probably feel less concerned about this because I don't care if I win or lose, but I know what it's like to be invested in a competition and want to win. I understand. I've won local tournaments with specific rules, and I've lost several fighting game tournaments, coming as close as 5th on less known games. So I get your perspective. But I also think if ya'll are good enough to have a serious shot at winning then you can practice to win under the ruleset and be happy that the money goes to charity. -
I have the hornet and loved it but I got bored because it felt very sterile. Like DCS doesn't do a good job of making you feel like you're in the cockpit. I'm not sure. I want the F-16 now. I can't answer this properly lol.

Wait, how many of you who don't like the g-limit aren't even competing? Yes it'll be easy for jets designed for high-g maneuvers (F-15, Mirage, F-16, Flankers?) to do those maneuvers without paying too much attention to the g-limit rule, but the tomcat driver will have to stop destroying his flaps and pulling 9 Gs and the F-18 will have to stop holding down the paddle switch. The F-14 can I *assume* still over-power the mirage, and the F-18 wants to be under 400 knots anyways so the g-limit shouldn't matter other than preventing them from using the switch that they shouldn't be using if they want to simulate a dogfight as opposed to an arcade game. I'm under the impression that the dogfight servers are full of tomcat and hornet drivers who want those jets to do things they aren't supposed to do, but I don't really know. I really shouldn't engage in this debate because I'm just a singleplayer schmuck so... I should stop here. I doubt I'll make it very far in the bracket anyways, but it'll be fun to try. My buddy is rooting for my opponnents because he wants to laugh at me crash and burn so it's all good my friend :D Besides, this way if I DO make it far in the bracket (or win) then everyone can just say it was because the mirage has a high g-limit  -

If you're a tomcat driver and you still get kills while adhering to the (apparent) real world g-limits, just consider it bragging rights. Besides even with the g-limits I'm sure you guys who are dogfighting every day will be able to mop up guys like me. So have fun. -

Seeing all the replies I’m sure you’ve got your answer. Just wanted to add that there’s an infinite medevac user mission file for the Huey in the files section of dcs world website. I recommend the Persian gulf variation for more challenging landings. Flying that mission while listening to music for hours has been some of the most relaxing flight sim experience ever.

Well at 400 kias, 15k, I can crank the stick all the way back and not over-g my mirage so... *grabs popcorn* -
This reminds me I need to buy a CNC Machinist simulator so when I come home I can sit at my computer and watch a machine spit out parts for another 8 hours straight with very little to no input from me.

Because it's an awesome feature to be included in something that is worth $80. Because they are modeling all of the systems, so making the switches actually start the aircraft is just part of the process of making all the systems work. Because fidelity is a selling point even if we don't do it every single time. Take off and Landing accuracy (systems, physics, flight modeling) are very important to the fidelity of the sim, but that doesn't mean I'm doing them every single time. A lot of time in DCS I simply jump into an instant action and shoot shit down. Why? Because the mission editor is annoying as hell and I don't always want a huge headache to just experience an aspect of flying, like the combat. DCS is in a weird spot for me. I enjoy it the most out of my three favorite sims: DCS, MSFS, IL-2. But I enjoy the flight models and the combat the most. I enjoy IL-2 for the fact that it has a campaign that I can feel involved in, that I can load up my pilot profile and launch a scripted mission that follows the history of a particular battle. And then MSFS has a really easy way to just jump in your aircraft, at the airport of your heart's desire, take off and go look at stuff. With DCS I'd have to go into the mission editor and add all sorts of stuff just to take off and do anything. I want the high fidelity because aviation is awesome and I don't get to experience aviation in real life so I want to see all of the real details in the sim. But that doesn't mean I have to do the entire process of plan, cold start, take off, navigate, AAR, mission, navigate, AAR, land, debrief, etc every single time I turn the sim on.

Any joysticks/hotas out there?
S. Low replied to Sheldor's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Wouldn't the Saitek X56 Rhino be the "next step" from the T16000M? It's $200 (under normal conditions) for the HOTAS. Warthog is $450-500 for the HOTAS. $250 for the stick. -

VKBcontrollers are like $400 for just the stick. Lol. Guess I gotta go be poor somewhere else! Equipment upgrades not happening anytime soon with the mid-range market obliterated.
