With the f14 I think I understand it, as I can get it to work. Basically in the tomcat I have aim9 selected, A/A mode, acm cover down (in this example), SW cooled, norm mode, and then I get a bandit in my hud and press cage/seam and it "unlocks" the seeker head of the SW causing the missile to look for an ir signature in a bigger radius (square shape I think) around the adl. The "lock" cases a higher pitched squeal than a regular boresight acquisition. Fire and forget. In the f18, A/A mode, aim 9 selected, SW cooled, when I get a bandit in my hud and I press cage/seam, nothing seems to happen. I still have to get the bandit directly on the adl to get an ir lock. I know my cage button works because I cage my hud during final on case 1. What's my issue here? What am I misunderstanding about SW ir locks, or the cage/seam function, or the difference in this mode between the two jets?

"Aircraft Artificial Intelligence (AI) In 2019 we made initial improvements to the dogfight AI that delivers more realistic and human behaviour, this also includes implementation of modern control theory Necessary Condition Analysis (NCA) and Incremental Nonlinear Dynamic Inversion (INDI) to all our AI aircraft in DCS in 2020. The new approach will extend flight envelopes and improve AI control quality and control response in mass and moment of inertia changes. In 2020 we will continue this effort, but also devote resources to improve other AI areas to include: Beyond Visual Range (BVR) offensive and defensive behaviour Formation keeping and correct use of external lights Air-to-Ground attack maneuvers Very-low level flight and terrain following Defensive threat responses (SAM and AAA)" Does the lingo in this paragraph mean that the new AI won't be UFOs anymore?

Last time I saw IronMike comment on this subject he inferred that Forrestal and the A would be shipping at the one year anniversary (sometime in march?). But there's no solid date obviously. Datamining from 2.5.6 revealed new F-14A stuff. Seems plausible.

Sure, I feel bad to the extent that they might have a tough couple days on the job or something, but this is their passion and DCS is ****ing awesome. They are running their own company and doing their dream, and making money for it. So yeah, I feel bad in the sense that I have empathy for any hard workin person who has a rough day in the office. But they choose to do this and they love doing it, so I wouldn't get too emotional over it.

What's the best anti torque pedals for a heli sim these days?
S. Low replied to d0ppler's topic in DCS: UH-1H
I just got mfg crosswinds last week. They are amazing. Avoid the tfrp pedals (the $60 ones). Horrible. Awful product. -
What takeaways do you get from the BFM MiG-29 training mission?
S. Low replied to AegisFX's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
There's probably more I should take away from it but I always think "the ai in this game is way too easy" and "guns only fights are silly" :) -
Love this mission btw. You're a hero.

Same. SIGH.

So it appears that the Steam hotfix went through, as I'm now in a mission on 2.5.6. But I hope the frame rate is corrected in the update this week. Edit: Flew a mission and now I can't log in. smh.

Was there even an official announcement of the roll back? Is it just steam, or both steam and the normal version? Did they suggest when the update will be re-issued? I can't find any official statement. I've clicked through several forums and threads and I'm tired of hunting this crap down.
-
I'm on the openbeta version, thanks for not helping at all. Genuine thanks for the info from the other poster about the roll back. I wasn't aware.

Did I miss something, is this patch not available for Steam yet? My version in game says 2.5.5.41962.

You know full well the model is currently in the wrong position and needs corrected, so this comment isn't constructive and kinda seems rude. It's too far forward making it ridiculous to try and look around it. Edit: but I wanted to add I agree that adding the option to start without the stick is a waste of limited resources given how easy it is to press backspace

Yeesh. It's like flying a Nintendo virtual boy. Seizures in 3.. 2.. 1...

Always be gentle with flight controls that don't have computers regulating them. Fly the huey without curves. Snapping cyclic back and forth will cause mast bump and your blades will go spinning off your helo :) Slow, smooth, deliberate movements are better.
-
On one hand I think it's silly to practice gun fights using tactics that will destroy your jet, and on the other hand I remember tales of phantom pilots purposely departing flight in order to flip their aircraft and get a mig off their tail.

Huey needs left yaw on take off to counteract torque, and it needs a bit of right rudder during forward flight ( I don't know why). The less weight you have the more she seems to need right rudder in flight. Again, don't know why. I just fly it lol. Dcs lighting is bad, but the huey lighting was also historically bad. There are other posts here about that light and how horrible it is in real life. Dunno about the needle.

Edit: phone autocorrected the title. Thanks phone! *crosswind rudder I just received my mfg crosswind pedals and assembled them and did some flying in the huey, f18, and f14. I'm blown away at the increase in quality. I really cannot stand the tfrp pedals. I truly mean no disrespect to thrustmaster as they have a number of very good products. For example, the t16000m and Twcs throttle hotas, which I currently use, are of fantastic quality for a relatively inexpensive price. Their warthog hotas, as well as the f18 and f16 sticks, are all widely enjoyed I think. However, every company has its faults, and the tfrp pedals are just junk. They are too light, the bottom basically hollow with very little surface meeting the floor, feet placed too close together, and the primary problem being the pedal travel isn't smooth or precise at all which includes a horrible centering friction that in order to overcome will cause you to over-yaw basically every time. Good riddance. Now to the good pedals. I was shocked at how smooth the mfg crosswind pedals are. It's like gliding through heaven. Flying the huey I realized how used I was to over-yawing to one side and then having to correct due to previous pedals, so used to it that it didn't make sense in my brain and muscle memory that I could keep the huey so precisely under control. It felt like an arcade game all of a sudden. Likewise, taxiing in the jets was much much more pleasurable. These pedals are absolutely worth the price of admission. But let me critique a couple things about these awesome crosswind pedals. First, out of the box the first and immediate thing that got to me were the toe brakes. They're way way way too heavy. The weight of spring used for these toe brakes is excessive and makes using the brakes horribly uncomfortable. The weight of the brake is slightly adjustable using a very cumbersome method that can sort of mess up your pedals if you do it incorrectly. You absolutely need to watch the manufacturer video on adjusting the toe brakes. They ship at the second lightest setting, so I didn't bother adjusting because it just seems pointless. A lot of work for very little change in weight. I end up shifting in my seat to put enough pressure on these brakes. It's silly. Secondly the pads on the bottom of the pedals do nothing to stop the pedals from moving, but I dont mind that much. The pads prevent my hardwood floor from being scratched. I used Velcro to attach my pedals to the floor anyways. No movement. Third and final criticism is with the tension of the last 25% of travel path. Now, the tension spring adjustment is great and easy to use. And like I said before the travel of the pedals is smooth as silk. Just, mmm. Butter. But thats only for 0-75% travel in either direction. The last 25% requires too much force as you're really pulling on that spring. Maybe I have it set up incorrectly but it seems problematic. Wrapping up, these pedals are absolutely worth the price and I am blown away at the quality. I prefer flying helicopters so getting my feet on these crosswinds has been like being treated to fine dining for the first time ever. Spoiled, shocked, grateful. I'm a happy customer so far and I think you would be too if you got them.

Here's how I did it: wiped out the first wave of migs, then followed waypoints at under 500 alt and high speed. Caught wind of the 25s and lured them out to sea. It's possible they didnt see me and were going that way anyways. At any rate I pulled them to the f14s and the rest of my f18 flight. Once the Phoenix missiles were in the air I turned hard and pitched up to engage. Migs got destroyed in the first wave of missiles.

I want this too, but I don't expect much. They say they are finishing up multicrew and there was talk last year of re writing the engine and rotor blade code. It is an old module that isn't new hotness, so I just enjoy it as is (which is very good mind you) and expect no more updates. If they do add something then I'll be surprised ;)

lol sopwith camel. Got me good with that one :megalol:

Hind, Kiowa, Bo-105... it's the year of the helo. So the announcement is the AH-64 :D

It seems like this feature will make all of the air to ground functionality of the F-18 on a whole other level of awesome. Or am I over estimating how good it is? Is there going to be HUD symbology for ground targets? What should we expect with how the ground radar works with the various AGM weapons?

A Heatblur-Jester style AI should be able to fit the apache, with modifications. Though if you want to you could skip that and sit in the gunner's seat since both seats have flight controls but only the gunner's seat has the FLIR controls. Wanted to say that when you guys make this module...... have heatblur do the trailer :D I love ED trailers but man, Heatblur's trailer game is Rank S+
