Feature request: Non linear option for non ffb sticks
Dannyvandelft replied to VirusAM's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
I did the same thing. Started to fly DCS, got FC3, then the Tomcat. It came natural to me though. I was doing carrier landings (in VR) on after 3 hours flight time. Took longer to memorize the startup than it took to learn to land lol. Like mentioned above, you have to fly her constantly. It seems like you're over correcting and causing pilot induced oscillation. Which is what I'm dealing with atm learning to refuel in midair. If you think landing is hard.... oh boy lol. Keep doing the training and instant action missions. Then progress to the campaign. Don't worry about weapon systems until you can take off, fly a pattern, and land. If you want an easier plane to fly and come back to the Tomcat later, try the F-16. She's super easy in comparison. My setup. VR is rift s. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk -
Let them get closer to you, outside of SAM range. Just patrol along the steer point. When they come in range, kill them. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

I'll get notifications from Jester or AWACS about an enemy or group and I'll turn to that heading, but they won't show up on my scope. Today I was flying straight at a pair of F-16's, Phoenix's ready to fire, but I didn't, or Jester anyway, didn't get a lock on them until after they fired their AMRAAMS at me. Most of the time Jester will pick them up and I have to wait till they're in firing range. The Vipers were at a high altitude and my nose was pointed straight at them. What gives? What radar mode and range do you have Jester scan? Leave him on auto? Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

Exactly she's legendary. Like the F-40. Not a POS Trans Am or Firebird lol. The Delorean had no performance whatsoever. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

Ooooh HB! could you give the helmets tinted visors we can slide up and down? Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

Jester punched out because the deck on the carrier was swinging too much. He thought we were crashing. I was flying a foggy mission and I was canyon carving and again just decided to punch out. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

I haven't flown the Viggen so I can't comment on that, BUT, the Tomcat is amazing. Easily my favorite module. If you fly in VR holy crap are you in for a treat. If she were a car, she'd be a Ferrari F-40. Greatest of an era before all the computer stuff took over in the newer models. It's a must buy. Simple as that. And HB, respect for your reply. I'm running 32 gigs of 3200 RAM with a latency of 15 and it runs DCS with ease. Going higher is obviously better but you're getting very little extra horsepower for the money spent. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk -

Nobody is making fun of RGB. I bought my RAM with RGB. I simply said RAM without RGB is cheaper. Comprehensive reading and all.... Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk -

Not here. RGB sticks are definitely more expensive than without. 3600 mhz isn't necessary either. Ryzen 5 3600 is optimized for 3200 mhz and the speed difference between 3600 and 3200 came down to less than 1% I read somewhere. Same with the latency. It isn't THAT important. Go with Ryzen. Start with a Ryzen 5 3600 and a compatible motherboard. I went X570 but a B450 also works and the latest ones ship ready to work with the Ryzen 3000 series. You can save quite a bit by forgoing the RGB and just get 16 to 32 Gigs of RAM. Get 16 to start and later on you can buy another 16 and pop it in. Save money on the case and buy something less than $100 I bought a 1tb SSD but you could save there too by buying a small SSD for Windows and DCS and put the rest on an HDD. Buy a power supply that's at least bronze rated, around the 650 Watt mark. The Ryzen ships with a CPU cooler so you save money there too. As far as GPU goes, get what you can afford. I went 5700xt but a 5700 should do you fine. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk -
I'd say your GPU is the weak link. And for all intents and purposes you really need double the RAM. It won't be bad flying around all by yourself with everything turned off/low but as soon as you get in the thick of things it won't cope. I fly a Rift S on a Ryzen 5 3600 with 32 Gigs of 3200 RAM and a Red Devil 5700 XT and it does good 95% of the time. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

General questions about VR and HORAS (Warthog)
Dannyvandelft replied to jmaurin's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I ONLY fly in VR on the Rift S. Without it it just sucks. I just wish it was as pretty as my 1440p 144 Hertz monitor lol. I fly with the Warthog HOTAS and Thrustmaster rudder pedals and leave most controls in their standard settings. I never have to use zoom. Startup and in flight switches are controlled with the Rift controllers. I don't have to use keyboard or mouse. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk -
Would you pay for a VR optimised F-14?
Dannyvandelft replied to GunSlingerAUS's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
My computer, Ryzen 5 3600, 5700xt gpu, 32 gigs ram, handles the Tomcat in VR on my Rift S just fine. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk -
This just rolled out in an update. I am of the opinion this is a Beta period till the Rift S also gets this. Anyway, I hope this means that soon we'll be able to flick switches with our own hands rather than the rift controllers. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

I thought I was slamming onto the deck too hard.... Apparently I'm not slamming onto the deck hard enough! Watching the DLC pop open like that makes me feel it only has 3 settings even though it's controlled by a wheel on the stick in the real plane. Closed, armed, and open. I'm assuming a simple push forward on the wheel just pops it open all the way and vice versa. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

I'm on mission 6 and so far so good. Is there a Persian Gulf Campaign? Cage the Camel? [emoji848][emoji23] Maybe it could be a couple missions in that the carrier gets attacked and damaged and operations have to be flown from a land based airfield? Oooooor if it's possible, let's say there's a strike group headed for the carrier, and depending on the outcome of that mission, it determines where the next one starts. Meaning, if you manage to intercept and kill all the attackers before they get their missiles off onto the carrier, you start there or after they launch and you're unable to land on the damaged deck and you have to divert. I use the thumb stick on the Warthog. Press to activate, forward to extend, aft to retract. It's so easy. Put the heading indicator on the cables on the deck, and adjust DLC as needed. No need to touch throttle or stick. Just DLC forward and aft to adjust glideslope. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

It's really not an issue. Just the difference between FBW in the Hornet and a "stick and rudder" plane like the Tomcat. You have to fly her off the deck rather than a computer doing it for you. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

Aircraft performance after update to 2.5.5.40603 Open Beta
Dannyvandelft replied to TOViper's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Yeah I'm usually around Mach 0.9 at cruising speeds so sounds about right. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk -
I find she wants to naturally pitch up as soon as she leaves the deck. I don't alter trim levels, I just react to what she's doing with the stick which is usually a bit of stick forward and a shallow bank towards steerpoint 1. As soon as the flaps are up and the gear retracted, she settles right down. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
