  1. I had to dig through Tacviews with no labels to find my test from a month ago. Here it is. null @Cab Since you have no doubt, you should create a thread in the F-18 forums with public empirical evidence (i.e. EM diagrams) that the F-18 is overperforming with paddle and ED will likely fix it, we all want a more realistic simulator. Tacview-20230515-015905-DCS.zip.acmi
  2. This doesn't look like Tacview data, did you test (STR specifically) this in the simulator? That is the most reliable data, we have no guarantee what physics calculations are happening in DCS's back end, or your math could be wrong as well. You have conflicting data to what I produced, so please check inside DCS which will produce results which are 100% accurate to DCS.
  3. Against a non-maneuvering contact, LOST is displayed despite missile still intercepting at Mach 2.25 Hopefully this can be fixed during radar rework. In its current state it does nothing useful except block important TTA/TTG information with inaccurate LOST cue. Additionally, think of all of the new & learning players to DCS who are incorrectly informed their missiles are considered lost, it is very confusing for them (I have had countless questions of people asking me why their missile says LOST but still hits) What LOST cue means: LOST cue should be displayed if a Sparrow or AMRAAM is launched outside of R-max, or the target maneuvers out of R-max after launch. 4. I don't need to do math, that's what the DCS Simulator does for us. I use Tacview Advanced and chart out the STR. Paddle usage barely increases STR as I mentioned (~0.1-0.2 deg/sec) but at the cost of flying on the cusp of GLOC & arcing. The big advantage people usually see from it is its ability to correct gross errors like arcing, if you aren't flying incorrectly to begin with paddle in the DCS F-18 is not an advantage. Also, really not sure why these F-16 topics always seem to derail into F-18's and paddle usage.
  5. Look at STR and not just G. In my tests paddle only gives you about +0.1-0.2 deg/sec at the cost of flying on the edge of GLOC and arcing. I don't think it's an advantage at all except to fix gross errors when you start arcing.
  6. Thanks for putting this together. Hopefully the radar update doesn't include more arbitrary performance penalties like the currently existing look down penalty in DCS. Excited to see a well made radar update for the Viper & Hornet.
  7. Couldn't you update this so it defaults to off rather to on? Then nobody would have modexes plastered everywhere unless they explicitly set it on. Also seems a bit weird that 1 is off and 0 is on as well, that's typically the reverse for most programming standards.
  8. Thank you for looking into this, appreciate it.
  9. I also really hope the mention of bars & azimuth affecting detection range is just a weird way of saying that increasing your scan volume will reduce the frequency of hits, thus reducing chance to detect based on %Pd. Hopefully its not another arbitrary penalty like it is currently for look down.
  10. Not saying this isn't a problem (it's possibly due to the excessive notch effect in DCS, which will happen a lot when cross circle) -- but ideally you don't use radar with AIM-9X to begin with. Undesignate to exit ACM and use the AIM-9 seeker instead (cage/uncage to track). This is not only more reliable, but also gives you 20 more degrees of off boresight capability.
  11. Tholozor answered it, but to add, TWS isn't locking anything. The only way to achieve a lock is through STT. Anything else is just a designation. "Soft lock" is just something the community made up.
  12. The F-18 has more thrust than the F-16, so I don't think this is a problem. I don't know the exact math right now or anything like that to say how much the difference should be, but stating that the F-18 performs better with weight and altitude seems pretty expected to me.
  13. Its your B-sweep, its stationary because you're in STT. (Not new symbology btw)
  14. Lots of members from my group are reporting issues around the boat. As soon as they go to F9/F2 view and look at the boat (while moving the camera - simulating movement - this is the same if they go up and fly) their frames drop whenever looking at the boat and moving.
  15. Easy fix would be to have the unlimited ammo setting also enable unlimited countermeasures. For example, I find training with invulnerability and unlimited ammo to be very efficient, but limited countermeasures takes away from the training.
  16. Pre-meld you'd be in your radar sanitization set (RWS), post-meld you'd switch to your desired employment mode (TWS AUTO, TWS SCAN RAID, STT)
  17. I think the main issue here is that the harpoon is not flying to its turning point before beginning to seek, which is a big deal, what if there are civilian ships that would normally be avoided by using a turning point, what if you were using the turning point to set a specific attack heading, etc? I thin the crashing into the island is an irrelevant side effect that isn't the main issue.
  18. There is no shortcut IRL either sadly, this is just one of those things where it's just much easier to do in the real jet than by grabbing your mouse or whatever in DCS. That said, following a timeline you'd typically be switching from RWS -> TWS at meld range which is about 30 seconds prior to shot range, so you have plenty of time to press it. In "emergent" situations you'd often be using an ACM mode anyway. All that said, one "shortcut" you can use, is to SCS Right to enter FACQ/AACQ (depending on context) which will put your radar into STT on the track, then press PB10 (top right button) to enter TWS. It's 2 less button presses to deal with as this will initialize you into TWS AUTO.
  19. CARRIER AIR WING EIGHTs 2023 Syria Deployment has finally ended and recruitment is OPEN for F/A-18C pilots (recruitment cutoff is May 16th). Sadly due to a lack of instructor pilot availability, we are not recruiting for F-14B pilot/RIOs at this time. We are looking for experienced pilots who want to take it to the next level, those who desire tactical realism and execution, with tactics, comm and procedures that emulate the real world as closely as DCS World will allow for (anchored from a huge amount of real world experience), with mission planning, briefings and debriefings. Training to this level of detail is not easy so applicants should be prepared for a challenge! After CVW-8's recruitment phase, we will begin our next FRTP (fleet readiness training plan) cycle starting with the FRS (Fleet Replacement Squadron), SFARP (Strike Fighter Advanced Readiness Program), TSTA (Tailored <profanity> Training Availability), AWN (Air Wing Nellis - our version of AWF - Air Wing Fallon, since DCS doesn't have have Fallon modeled), and finally C2X (COMPTUEX - Composite Training Unit Exercise) getting us ready for our 2024 Deployment! You can find our application information and the application itself on our website. Please take your time with your application, we are only looking to accept likely 6-8 pilots at most. We look forward to hearing from you! FACTORY FOREVER, FLY NAVY CVW-8 Website CVW-8 Discord EDIT: Recruitment is now closed. Special cases may still be taken on a case by case basis until the end of SFARP in which case it will be fully closed until next year.
  20. Reset re-initializes the radar mode, it doesn't mean it removes L&S (the ED guide here is wrong). You should always have an L&S when in TWS, the change is correct, the guide needs an update.
  21. I personally can't wait until realistic error is built into the RWR making it realistically less omniscient/perfect (including the F-18 RWR too of course)
  22. My thread that was moved wasn't asking specifically for separate configuration, it was that the SA page has separate speeds at all to begin with which is a bug. I'm all for configuration, but as it is right now having different speeds is a bug.
  23. Yeah, and sadly, for some reason (no comment from CM), my bug report to fix the bug where the SA page TDC speed wasn't adjusted was moved as a Wish List item...
  24. That would be a fantastic solution for ED to implement.
  25. You can slow it down I believe by adjusting the saturation in the axis tune, however because ED has a bug where the SA page TDC was not matching the same speed, it will end up even slower.
