So, I posted about this two years ago and it's still unfixed -- does no one else find this really frustrating when navigating the site on any mobile device? It forces me to manually zoom in every time I open the forum site.

Absolutely fantastic job! i just finally had time to look through the guide and am very impressed. Thanks for all the time you put into this -- it shows!

OK, major revelation today: I tend to enable (when I remember to) 16x anisotropic filtering in NVCP whenever I update my drivers. Well, turns out that AF is killing my framerate -- I get 60FPS without, and 40 with. After a very thorough uninstall of my 347.88 drivers, I gave the 352.86 drivers another try today. I found that I can get the same 60FPS with this set that I was getting with the 347.88 set, as long as I don't force AF (and actually, the same probably holds true with 347.88 ). I'm also getting identical FPS in PCARS as I was before, and, to boot, finally got SLI working in Witcher3 (about 40% scaling at 4K, not great, but helps tremendously). So, I basically take back everything I said in the OP...352.86 now works just fine for me. I know a lot of people have had stability issues with this set (and I most definitely did with the previous 350.12 set) but I haven't had a chance to really test them yet, so can't comment on that yet.

So really, nobody else has the same results I get? I just tried the 352.86 drivers, and again I get a massive FPS drop at 4K with SLI'd 970s: 344.65: 60 FPS 352.86: 40 FPS And I've tried this with and without GeForce Experience -- same results. I'd love to stay with the 344.65 drivers but I get much better FPS with the 352.86 set in Project CARS and don't want to lose that.

My procedure has generally been: 1) Disable SLI in NVCP. (VERY IMPORTANT -- in my experience, skipping this step causes many, many problems.) 2) Uninstall the current drivers via Control Panel. (Unfortunately at least on my machine, the uninstall process then blanks my screen altogether and it never comes back on, so I usually wait about 2 minutes, assume the uninstall process has completed, and manually turn the machine off and then back on.) 3) Windows will then install some default graphics driver and prompt for reboot, so I let it reboot again. 4) Run Display Driver Uninstaller (get it from Guru3d) -- it'll prompt you to recommend you first be in safe mode -- I always ignore that and just let it run. It then automatically reboots the machine. 5) Install new drivers and make sure 'perform clean installation' is checked. 6) Enable SLI in NVCP. Since I don't stream, I've been unchecking the Nvidia GeForce Experience app during the install process, as at least according to this thread it probably eats up a bit of FPS.

UPDATE: Issue resolved, see post #26 below. I knew my memory wasn't completely deceiving me and that I used to be getting better FPS in DCS. Since at least mid-March (and maybe earlier), I thought my FPS in DCS had radically dropped. I haven't seen anyone complain about Nvidia drivers lately, and have only seen a single thread about the 1.2.16 update possibly being the culprit. But today I went back and tried two different earlier drivers with my 1.2.16 install and got the following results in a simple MiG-21 takeoff mission: 350.12 (April 13, 2015): 40 FPS 347.88 (March 17, 2015): 40 FPS 344.65 (November 10, 2014): 57 FPS That's a 30% drop from the 344 to the 347/350 driver versions. I've no idea what's causing it, but whatever benefit the 350 drivers may have supposedly had for GTA5, the loss in DCS is absolutely not worth it. So if any of you are noticing similar drops -- try the 344.65 set. It could that the first 'bad' driver set is actually older than 347.88, but I haven't had time to test them yet.

Very nice! Thanks for sharing this.

Oooooo nice, where can I get that?

Although I don't have much time in the -21 yet, I'd also offer that a descent angle of 20 degrees is likely much too shallow. In the A-10 you usually use at least 30, if not 45 in many cases. So you might want to try starting off closer to the target and at a higher descent angle, but same altitude.

That IS a pretty cool scheme. On a somewhat related note, a few weeks ago I flew into Zagreb for work, and as I waited on the shuttle bus to go from the plane to the terminal, it suddenly occurred to me that I ought to look around for MiG-21s parked at the airport. Right after I had that thought, the example below (or one just like it) taxied by past my plane pretty quickly, went down to the end of the runway, sat for a few minutes, and then took off in afterburner, shaking the whole bus! Very cool, and kinda felt like the whole display was just for me. :)

I second that! Absolutely love your guides, Chuck, and would very much appreciate a MiG-21 edition as I'm planning to tackle that jet next. :)

I'm a few months into enjoying my 58" Panasonic, and am absolutely loving it. Black levels could be better in dark environments -- i.e. FPS's -- but in DCS, it's not an issue. It's my favorite setup yet, and I've been through many, like Ed said.

A bit late to the party, but wanted to add my thanks for what you've created here. It has continually frustrated me that I've never gotten VAC working adequately in DCS, but it seems like you've solved one of the major hindrances. Haven't had a chance to try it out yet, but look forward to doing so soon.

need overclocking advice for a DCS World specific PC.

I've been running my 2500k at 4.8GHz for over four years now, and the improvement in DCS is absolutely worth it. Check out my post here for details. -
I should've been clearer in what I meant above: not that SLI'd 970s will double your VRAM, but that your overall performance in DCS will vastly increase, making 4k absolutely playable. 40-80 FPS in DCS at 4K -- that's more than adequate in my book. The fact that going SLI bumped my framerate by 50-80% I think proves that VRAM was not the limiting factor at 4K.

... except if that person intends to buy TWO 4GB cards, as I mentioned above, in which case, they're going to be one happy DCS'er. :)

40 inch 4K TV screen for DCS ?
GregP replied to m1tp2king's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
It does indeed look like that screen supports HDMI 2.0, so you could get the full 60Hz out of it with 900-series cards. If you're going to do it, I'd strongly recommend going SLI. I tried a single 970 at 4K and FPS rarely went over 40, and often dropped to the teens, whereas with 2 970s now I'm usually around 40-70. One thing I'd encourage you to do, though, is first research whether that model can properly do "4:4:4 chroma color" at 4K/60Hz. Check out the Nvidia 900-series forums for details on that. But bottom line is, if the monitor can't do it (despite what the manual claims) you're going to have color problems in games. As for response times, I'm not sure what my Panasonic has, but I have no complaints about it across multiple different games. -
One 970 may not be enough, but I can verify that two certainly is. :) I'm running DCS at 4K/60Hz with SLI'd 970s, and even though I rarely see VRAM usage go over 3.5 GB (maybe lending credence to the card not being able to use all 4 GB), I'm generally able to maintain 40-80 FPS. As others have pointed out, yeah it sucks not having all 4 GB, but does it really make a difference? In my experience, at 4K, where SLI is really required anyway -- no, it doesn't.

Just wanted to note that mondaysoff's tips in post #4 still work perfectly in 1.2.14. Nice work!

This is a problem that has now screwed up pretty much all Su-27 skins, right? Because I too have been having this problem several weeks now. I definitely don't look forward to going into every single lua file and fixing it manually. Very frustrating when changes like this are made.

There are several buttons/switches/axes in the pit such as these that don't have entries in the control GUI yet, so I would imagine that Belsimtek simply haven't gotten around to it yet, but plan to do so.

Ground/Land Texture Mods Directory
GregP replied to Devrim's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Yes, great idea Devrim! All high quality mods here. Although even after having used every one of these at some point, I have to admit I'm still confused about how noise, trees and Ed's villages work, i.e. how to separate those files out such that you don't have to give them up if you later decide to switch to another mod. Maybe a discussion for another thread. -
Congratulations on joining the club! I've had my Pana for a month now and absolutely love it. I too, though, struggled with getting optimal picture quality. I've tried many combinations of settings but still haven't managed to find what I would consider to be an ideal setup. Overall, it seems to me that the Pana just simply can't do deep blacks very well. For now I'm using the below settings, and rely on SweetFX to individually tailor colors etc. in each game I play on it. Picture Mode: Monitor Back light: 80 Contract: 85 Brightness: 0 Color: 80 Tint: 0 Sharpness: 0 Color temp: Normal Vivid color: Off Color remaster: Off Adaptive backlight control: Off Letterbox: Normal C.A.T.S.: Off Video NR: Off MPEG remaster: Off Resolution remaster: Off Caption smoother: Off Brilliance enhancer: Off Pro settings: Contract A.I.: Off Advanced picture: Game mode: On 4K pure direct: On Black level: Dark
