It would be great to be able to set names and national flags for ships. Espacially for WW2 it would make sense for identification missions.

It's a tool. And you a re right, you would be able to do unrealstic scenarios. So what? Nobody is forced to do so. Currently you can set a wind speed, which led you land the F18 on the Heli-Pad in Dubay. That's in the same way unrealistic. With this feature whish, I see to achieve two things: - It's a low hanging fruit for ED, as both features, wind and waves, already exist. - Let us doing what we need/want for realistic scenarios. And please read my second post. How could a simulator simulate, that you've got strong wind yesterday, or a storm somewhere else.

Hello ED, and hello to the community, as an avid player of DCS, I have thoroughly enjoyed the engaging gameplay it offers. However, I would like to address the color associations currently present in the game, particularly in relation to the "Combined Joint Task Forces" concept. The two opposing factions are represented by the colors red and blue. While I understand that these colors are commonly associated with opposing sides, I would like to suggest the inclusion of optional color schemes that players can choose from. By introducing alternative colors that are less connected to specific real-world associations, players would be able to engage with the game in a manner that focuses solely on the strategic elements and immersive gameplay DCS creates. This adjustment would help prevent any unintended connections with contemporary conflicts, political situations, or potentially sensitive topics that could distract players from the intended gaming experience. Best regards Limaro

I did not write much, but I guess the point is clear. There are just too many factors, which a game can hardly consider. - Current wind - Wind of the last couple of days - Stronger wind somewhere else (yes, waves are traveling). - Deepness of water (black sea, vs. pacific. The just behave totally different) - "Size of open water" (fiord vs. open sea) - Underground geografical situation (google portual, nazare, thats not wind) So to simplify things for us and ED (and let marianas water not look like the flat water of a swimming pool) we just wish this feature to be separated. Yes ok, maybe with checkbox to couple settings if whished.
-
TL DR we simply want separate settings for wind and for wave. Just because of having different water. The black sea has by default less waves than atlantic or pacific. I don't want ED to make perfekt wind-to-wave settings. to many variables. just two more slides. One for what you call swell-waves and one for wind waves.

Update with 2.8.6. Meanwhile AMD Adrenalin 23.5.2. Seams a small drop again, but this can be due to measurement inaccuracy. Crash after reload of mission, and then, when starting mission
Limaro replied to Limaro's topic in Game Crash
Hi Flappie, not this did not help. also clearing metashader or fxo not. I also restarted PC. I have to adjust the STR. WHen it fails, it fails. I hade to change some parameters like time and some aircrafts, before it worked again. attached both mission. Working vs non-working. WWII_Mixed_Combat_Works.miz WWII_Mixed_Combat_Fails.miz -
Hi, currently I am building some WWII missions. In all, I observed, that the bombers, Ju88 and B17 starts some kind of driftings. Not sure if it is WWII specific, or Bomber, but I never had that in other missions. Or it did totally oversaw that. Check the track file The "Luft-12-2" Unit does it at 09:13:40 enomously. Here a sample video of another situation and other mission: B17Driftking.trk WWII_Mixed_Combat.miz dcs.log

Hi ED I have reproducable crashes with my attached mission. It may just be related to the map, however, the steps seam not very map specific. The Mission: - Normandie 2.0 - Some flying Bombers - Many Client Slots (Parking slot) - On last added client starting from Runway (then problems begun). - DCS/2.8.4.39731 STR: Start the attached mission Us the client "Luft-14xx". Start up. Not sure if needed, i guess not. Midair, restart mission Shift+R. Current result: Crash When loading mission from ME again, It crashes in load screen. For me, it it works again only, when I change the mission, like moving the plane to another airfield. Note: It happens in ST and in MT. Attached also the crash log. Worth to upgrade RX6800XT -> 4090?
Limaro replied to Flummi's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I think it's hard to get a good opinion of evaluating if it's worth spending that amount of money. There are just too many factors. However, here is what I do, to get a clearer view of things before buying something: 1. 40 FPS is not enough to play, I agree. But you mentioned middle details. Can you set them that low, so that you get what you want as target? (60 or 90 for example). But do not make inacceptable compromises (resolution, or too bad textures is cockpit, you should still be able to read everything). 2.a) Can't you reach your target FPS: Yes, then It worth maybe really. 2.b) You reached the target FPS you want. Now look at how the world looks like. 3. Compare to how it would look like having a 4090 with 90FPS. (use Forum data from user with compareble setup) This is what you should compare. The visual details you get for a fixed target fps. Are these details worth buying the 4090? Regards -
Web Browser ME? Where to find this? Sound interesing to me

Thats what i guessed. However, Not knowing how ED evaluates necessarity of Features, i wanted top Push this. IT hinders me a Lot, doing more Missions.

resolved Multithreading very poor performance - fixed with slow repair

I mena to rename them, by that, they shall be disabled as they wont be found any more. Then just try DCS MT if it's working better. -

Limaro replied to egon83's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Maybe before really uninstalling, just try deactive them im first place. Go to your Saved Games folder of windows (not the installation of DCS) It should be something like this: C:\Users\<user>\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta (the <user> depends on you windows user name) and rename the "Scripts" folder to something else. If it is still slow, and you did the steps from bignewy, please post your Log file. In the folder above you will also find the "Logs" directory, please upload your Logs\dcs.log file here, after having a slow DCS session. If you have questions about the listed steps, tell us. Please also post your system specs, so we get an idea of your hardware. Just for being sure that we talk about the same: The single threaded DCS mode works still fine, only MT makes problems? -
Hi, I now had it the second time. In a multiplayer mission with loading a cargo, It happend twice in two evenings, that my cargo drops when my mate joined the helicopter as co-pilot. I'd like to attache the track, but it's 140MB. As a side node of a second bug: When he joins, the VHF does not work any more either. Is this an known phenomenon? Regards

Hi, since 2.8.3 I've tried to redo some trainings from the KA-50, and I am often jumping to the controls settings. Now it happens, that very often it did not react to any input. I could configure, but just pressing the button, or the key on the keyboard, it did not highlight / select and moves to the assigned command. This returned to normal after ending the mission. Restarting it, it first worked, but then, something seams to happen and id does not work again. Attached to log file. dcs.log

I copied your ingame settings and tried, but I got nothing unexpected. But don't be sad on ED, it's weekend Meanwhile, you could just test the 2D-Mode (Compare ST and MT). this may help for further analysis. Have you checked to common other performance things, spreaded over the forum? Like the power management I mentioned, but there are other like to turn of windows game mode. I guess there were more others. -

But try at least without your scripts folder (rename it), and delete fxo und metashaders2. Please post your dcs.log of a bad run, and maybe your dxdiag. -

What symphtoms do you have? The same a the author of the thread? For me it looks like an inssue with energy management of windows (CPU spikes) and limited frames by VSync or something likes this. -

That matches with mine so far. did you observe HDD load? I upload her an example from mine. As the MT is another exe, maybe firewall or antivirus starts looking to ambitious to it. Does it happen with VR only or also without? -

you new log came just before my question. I see it's resolved with the scripts. I guess buy the small repair. Yes under Saved games / dcs.openbeta you have Scripts. in there, everything like TacView and Vaicom is located. Did you monitor your CPU load while this is happening? And second: Does non-MT still work as expected? -

Have you tested without your Scripts folder (rename). I remember I had that picture of frametimes with a corupted TacView installation. And there are many scrip loading errors in your dcs.log. -
investigating Framerate decreasing up to 16% with 2.8.0
Limaro replied to Limaro's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Warming up this thread with 2.8.3.37556 (Multi Threading Update) with some news: 1. I got a new CPU (5800X3D) some time ago. My first task in DCS was to remeasure the FPS from the very first post of me - and the results were identical. This did not surprise me, as they are very light missions with no CPU load. Thats Why I did not mention it since. I mention in now because I measured again with 2.8.3, once with multi threading once without. 2. I've measured now following data for Beirut 4_2: 2.7.18: 74.9 FPS (lower CPU) 2.8.0: 65.8 FPS 2.8.1: 66.4 FPS 2.8.3: 68.0 FPS (got 2 FPS back) 2.8.3 MT 73.8 FPS (almost back to pre 2.8) Beirut 4_3: 2.7.18: 100.9 FPS (lower CPU) 2.8.0: 88.1 FPS 2.8.3: 92.3 FPS (got 4 FPS back) 2.8.3 MT: 103.4 FPS (more than 2.7.18) A surprising result for me. My mindset was, that multi threading would have no effect on my scenarios. They are located near the city of Beirut (large) but only my airplane in single player. Not any other AI aircraft or ground unit. Dispite the good MT results, I'd still like to not mark here anything as resolved. Just imagine performance of 2.7.18 having multi threading . Anyway, ED, thanks for the improvements and keep up the good work EDIT: I could reproduce these results with my second PC. Spec is Intel i5-4670, 32GB DDR3, Geforce 980 (4GB) Caucasus Scenario: 2.7.18: 66.4 FPS 2.8.3 ST: 57.4 FPS 2.8.3 MT: 68.0 FPS Marianas Scenario: 2.7.18: 44.2 FPS 2.8.3 ST: 42.6 FPS 2.8.3 MT: 49.5 FPS dcs.log PC2 dcs.log_2.7.18.old PC2 dcs.log- 31 replies

2 computers with same hardware, massive FPS difference
Limaro replied to fastfed's topic in Game Performance Bugs
I guess you are flying the same version and the same module? This may have a great influence. If yes, for comparison and optiomization check the following things: 1. Compare your grafic settings. Maybe in Adrenalin (AMD Graphic Driver) one of you have different settings. I could imagine, one of you have FreeSync or VSync. That's not bad in generally, but would explain different results in frames and gpu load. This is my top guess about this issue. a. Also check that you run the same Adrenalin version. Btw. Using the very latest 23.2.1, I am getting 2-4% more fps. 2. For the energy management, go to control panel, there to the power management. Check you run on highest power. a. You can also hit windows key, type "power management". b. Select high power (something like that, dont know how it's in english windows) c. Change the plan, then again to extended settings d. In this window check that CPU performance is set to 100% 3. Deactivate the gaming mode. Open settings, search for gaming, there you can deactivate it. 4. Try without scripts by renaming C:\Users\<user>\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Scripts
