Another way to drop the cluster bombs is CCRP. Basically you do the same as above, but while the pipper is still stuck at the bottom of the gunsight (docked) just fly the center dot over the target. Now press and HOLD the fire button. Keep lined up left/right on the target but you can now let the target slip under your view. A few seconds before release, a tone will sound--keep holding the fire button until the tone stops and you hear the clunk when the bombs release. Now you can let go of the trigger and begin evasive maneuvers. Edit: this is all easier if you zoom in all the way to the HUD, or better yet hit ctrl-numpad0 then numpad5 for a zoomed-in snapview of the HUD.

Since you're still using 1.02 it needs to be said the for alot of people FC gives an overall smoother gameplay experience. Personally I didn't see an increase in FPS, just smoother and more stable. The big one in FC was the ground units LODs that makes large missions with 100+ units possible. BS I assume will carry this forward.

The Russian section has been up for far longer than the English one.

It wont let me direct link to it. Just look in the upper right of the page in the box that says "free video". Then look at the most watched list, the apache training video is the first one.

Nice video about the flight sims that the US Army is using to train our helo pilots up at foxnews.com: http://www.foxnews.com/ Look in the upper right corner for the video "Training Apache Pilots". Would be awesome to get a spin in one of those!

Historical release for any ED project will be 6 months after originally stated release--in this case I think BS was originally planned for November. Add 6 months to that and you get May. That's my guess and I'm stickin to it!! :D

Who posted the labelled Beriosa panel?
VapoR replied to britgliderpilot's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
From left to right: Airborne radar | Long-range SAM | med-range SAM | short-range SAM | EWR | AWACS Easiest to think of it this way: the scale goes from most dangerous threat to the least dangerous (from left to right). -
Yeah, we have AFM--now let's have AME (Advanced Mission Editor)!!

I totally understand this sentiment!! Making huge mp missions for the 504 server is an excercise in frustration. Placing over a hundred units is quite a pain. You have to add a few groups at a time, load the mission, then check to see where the unit is. They will sometimes be sitting on the side of a cliff or if you have scenes on high in the middle of a forest. The ME is in desperate need of some placement logic. Currently if you try to stick a ground vehicle in water it will "snap" to the closest land. Something like this is needed for terrain that is too steep. The patches of forest need to be visible in the satellite view so you can see that you are not placing a T-80 in the woods. Ever noticed how if you have a vehicle travelling off-road and the path crosses a town? The vehicle will drive around any buildings instead of stopping. This needs to be implemented for ANY obstacle on the map, such as steep terrain, rivers (by way of bridges), and forests. It would be nice to see this in the ME with the waypoints, that they automatically curve around obstacles. Once in game, the AI should look for alternate routes if a bridge is taken out. When setting a ground vehicle group to off-road, you have some formation options. It would be nice though to be able to drag them into a formation of your design and they would be able to maintain that. Another cool feature would be to have a button that would randomly "scatter" a stationary group into a shape other than a straight line (each vehicle following the placement logic mentioned above). I have lots of ideas for the ME, but really we are waisting our breath. ED has not made any changes to the ME since 1.0, not even bug fixes (the one where a placed group returns to a straight line when clicking another group is my personal favorite :(). They haven't mentioned any plans for changes to the ME for 1.2, but I'm still holding my breath for Tank Killers.

NAV modes - why are there more than 1?
VapoR replied to Greenies's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
How do they switch modes IRL? I find it hard to believe that there is a 1 key in the Su-25 that they cycle through the modes with!! Is it a toggle switch maybe or a knob that changes through the modes (like the ripple settings knob). It would be nice to see a bit more animation in the switches so you can see at a glance what mode you are in and for stuff like wingtip lights and taxi lights -
Network compatibility : LO+FC+BS / LO+BS
VapoR replied to Azrayen's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Seems like a logical choice to me--why would they give away for free the work they did for FC?? And for someone new, the initial cost for LO + FC is low anyway. I would imagine that for mp everyone that will fly online already has FC, so they will just need BS for compatability. The instances where someone buys LO and BS without getting FC will be very rare. -
The core problem is that ED's flyable choices lately are weird. Two aircraft BARELY in service--Su-25T and Ka-50. Not to mention the completely screwed up timeframe of the sim.

This is not a poll...fantasy addon....
VapoR replied to lerxster's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Jaguar. No substitute. -
Awesome work!! While not realistic, it makes browsing around the cockpit much easier. Any chance of someone doing the vanilla Su-25??

GOOD GOD!! Must . . have . . Cobra . . flyable . . . **passes out**

ED always runs 6 months behind their planned release, so count on September.

Before. My procedure: -Turn on power and lights -Watch for the HSI to finish rotating -Start engines -Select enroute mode (first nav mode) -Begin taxiing

I'm a little slow - dedicated server?
VapoR replied to ARM505's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
This is something that has been requested since the release of Lock-on and the devs have never given a straight answer for. Last I heard they were planning on doing it for Black Shark, but this late in the game it looks like this has once again slipped by. I guess the problem is that it is not something they can really charge for so the development time for it would not be justified. I agree though, a DC for this sim would be a huge bonus--there is just not enough going on in single player for most people (canned missions blah blah blah). -
Just to expand a little farther: Ctrl-m is chat to all Alt-m is chat to team only An even better option: use Teamspeak!! Most of the servers have a TS available, free to use and easier than typing.
-
Dunno if this will apply to you since I have an X-52, but I map the TDC controls to mouse axis in lockon. Then I use my ministick as a mouse through the Saitek profiler.
-
From stats I've seen, Lock-on has outsold F4:AF, and these were taken before FC.
-
I agree, fresh 1.0 install then Flaming Cliffs. Do not install 1.12 until you are finished using the training tracks since the patch breaks the training. Only other thing I would install is the ground units LOD fix, I don't think it will affect the training.

Thanks for the tips guys, I think setting the swap file to 2gb did the trick. I flew for about 2 hours tonight and didn't have the usual problem. There was only 8-15 people on the server at any one time though, can't wait to try it with a full server.

VVS504 Server downtime - Saturday 18th February
VapoR replied to zorlac's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Someone call in some defribrilators for Pilotasso!! CLEEAARR!!! -
My specs: XP 2100 1gb pc2100 9500 pro 128mb Cat 6.2 Most of my settings are on medium, except effects are on low and shadows all planar. Running 1280x960 with no AA and no AF. Pilotasso: how do I check what my swap file is set at? XP SP2 btw. Shaman: I've had this happen on ALL of the missions on the 504th. I don't think it's the missions themselves, cause I test them offline and have no problems. I'm not sure if this happens on other servers as I don't fly on any others.
