  1. Perhaps you didn't respond to the Windows UAC prompt at the end of the download, which is required to apply the update. If you don't respond to it within a certain period, it cancels itself and DCS cannot apply the update. As you noticed, the solution is to run DCS update again. It uses the files that were previously downloaded so you don't waste time there.
  2. Lost the P-51 tab too, after using auto-update from 1.2.1 to 1.2.2 I only have the CA and Ka-50 tabs now.
  3. It's because of the MIME type assigned by the webserver ... HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Fri, 09 Nov 2012 18:47:58 GMT Server: Apache/2.2.15 (Red Hat) Last-Modified: Fri, 10 Aug 2012 13:40:55 GMT ETag: "6807dd-b2-4c6e97e494f8c" Accept-Ranges: bytes Content-Length: 178 Connection: close Content-Type: audio/mpeg
  4. There should be a "Repair DCS World" link in the Windows Start menu.
  5. I know I'm repeating myself, but is the "disable Aero interface" option enabled? It's know for causing this issue when enabled.
  6. I believe it was introduced in DCS World 1.2.0
  7. Did you de-select the option to install the Visual C++ redistributable at the beginning of the installation?
  8. Did you try the update option again? Or the repair option?
  9. Ubisoft still holds legal rights to Lockon and its content, that's why you must own Lockon in order to use Flaming Cliffs, which is a further development of Lockon's content.
  10. BS1 indeed deletes the entire Eagle Dynamics start menu folder when uninstalled.
  11. Did you select the "disable aero interface" option?
  12. Do any of these crash reports make it to ED?
  13. Strange things such as? If you disable UAC and your account is a member of the administrators group then there wouldn't be any point in using "run as administrator" since your privileges would already be elevated (as was the behavior before Windows Vista). In DCS:BS1 and Lockon there was a need to explicitly elevate your privileges since user files were stored in the Program Files directory (not a best practice ...), where the default permissions require administrator privileges for write access. With DCS:A-10C (IIRC) and newer versions of DCS this no longer applies since the user files are stored in the user profile (where they belong). I haven't seen any official ED statements regarding this. (moderators don't count :D)
  14. I'd like to point out that there is no need to disable UAC or run the game as administrator. All files that require write-permission are located in the user profile, where you have write-permission by default.
  15. DCS runs better on 64-bit Windows, that's just the way it is. ED should make 64-bit OS's a minimum requirement. (and even drop XP support, it's more than 11 years old now) Anyhow, without those crash logs, you can't expect anyone to magically find out what is causing those crashes.
  16. It doesn't help that the Ka-50's avionics are not well designed (e.g. no HOTAS integration of ABRIS, ABRIS being a separate system, not integrated with PVI-800, PVI-800 can store only six waypoints, etc.). Compare the A-10A's avionics with the A-10C's avionics. Avionics can make a big difference.
  17. Mainstream support ends in about two years, on January 12, 2015. Extended support ends in January 2020 but does not apply to regular customers (= paid support cases only during extended support), except for critical security updates.
  18. (kernel-mode) Drivers may have improved over time due to various reasons but they can still crash the system.
  19. Are you referring to the "devices" item in the "charms bar"?
  20. You can get an upgrade license for Windows 8 Professional online for 30€ (and do a clean install) ... That's the same price as DCS:Combined Arms ... Windows 8 actually contains a bunch of improvements for classic desktop users which are easily worth the upgrade. As a desktop user you can completely ignore the metro UI and live on the desktop side. You don't have to log on with a Microsoft account either, just use local users and avoid Microsoft's control over your system.
  21. This has been possible for a long time in NTFS --> mklink.exe /D C:\SymbolicLink D:\TargetDirectory mklink.exe, which is available in Vista and newer, can create NTFS symbolic links and NTFS junction points. Windows 2000 and XP had linkd.exe for creating NTFS junction points only. Source: Symoblic links and Junction points in NTFS
  22. I guess they aim to make money from metro apps (you can only install them from the Microsoft Store, unless you use Windows 8 Enterprise).
  23. I upgraded on launch day. I don't care for the metro UI but there are plenty of improvements on the desktop side. I haven't touched Windows 7 since upgrading. Great bargain at 30€.
