  1. OK I stand corrected. I had the right information just the wrong time period...... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drop_tank The first drop tanks were designed to be discarded when empty or in the event of combat or emergency in order to reduce drag, weight, and to increase maneuverability. Modern external tanks are often (but not always maybe?)intended to be retained both in combat and in normal long-range flight, and only dropped in an emergency. In my defense I did read information that stated they did not carry drop tanks into combat because of the increased possibility of fire. Maybe that was situational and I took it out of context. I know they carried them to GET to combat but not actually IN combat. We were discussing A-10 loiter times. Based on previous information I had I assumed no ground attack aircraft would carry external tanks to increase loiter time in a combat zone. Apologies.
  2. Some things I would like to see. Smoke Generators and Smoke Grenade Launchers I would like to see these actually block laser range finders and laser guided weapons. (it would need to have a build up / build down effectiveness rate to simulate accumulation and dissipation of smoke) It is a realistic and wanted feature (at least by me) It would block lasers (and possibly foul infrared) but make the tank super visible. (use it with care!!!) Laser Warning Receiver This is also a realistic and wanted feature. It just gives a buzz when a laser is being used on the tank (targeting or ranging). Some people might think this coupled with smoke would be a game killer. However 1. Smoke is not instant. It takes time to accumulate. 2. If your painted its probably too late anyway (for tank vs tank at least). 3. Smoke makes you VERY visible. 4. Smoke may inhibit the offense but it absolutely blinds the defense. 6. The shooter could just manually target the general area and hope to get lucky (I mean your probably SOMEWHERE in the smoke right). Radio Warning Devices These would be used to block anti tank missiles using millimeter and other very short wave radar. This probably would not be a good thing to include on product release (due to development time) but might be considered on a future expansion. Icons One of the hardest things about playing a tank sim is that it tries to turn 1 person into 3 or more people. This requires a good interface to be workable. My experience in T72: Balkans On Fire has taught me that having to remember a bunch of keys in a combat situation is not preferable (in fact it is probably going to get you killed). There should be an icon interface that would simulate communication with other crew. Personally I will probably use voice command software but not everyone prefers this or has it available (no mic). I have suggestions if your interested. I have been interested in this genre for sometime now and have studied A LOT of tank sims.
  3. I am not being sarcastic. I assure you I am very serious.
  4. paulrkiii no aircraft carries external fuel tanks into combat. If you really worked on military aircraft for 17 years you should know that.
  5. Mark me down as your first customer. Seriously. I litterly want to buy the FIRST copy.
  6. Hi SUBS17. I thought Seawolves covered air and sea. I thought you guys did Silent Hunter as well. Am I incorrect?
  7. I was thinking of what new career choices I have. I am too ugly to be a gigolo. I was thinking an of exciting career in aluminum can collecting or robbing people (the benefits suck but the pay is good). Are there any car companies out there looking for a crash test dummy? I could be a ballistics dummy. Are there any companies out there looking to test products on humans? Honestly I would like to get into I.T. but I don't know where to start. By the way I just got the news they want to contract out my shop AND my wifes. So we are both going to be unemployed.
  8. I used to work with a person that had an electrical engineering degree from another country. However his degree was no good in the USA so the best he could do was working a commercial electrician job. He had to test for a journeyman's license. Most school's are accredited by the state you live in. If they are not then most likely the paper you get for graduating is about worthless.
  9. Ok joey45 its gave. Check your private message..... perv.
  10. How old are you joey45?
  11. I can't. Mine is a nude picture of Katie Fey (Jenya D).
  12. USA does not always honor degrees earned in other countries because the schools are not accredited by the USA government.
  13. Temp services have done no service to the working man. They are just a convieent way for a company to get labor for dirt cheap. By the way, if the job ends good luck on getting your unemployment because according to the temp service you don't qualify because technically your still employed your just "between assignments". i wish you luck.
  14. Expected Employee Reductions Fleet Service & Other TWU – Approximately 4,200 (this is my group) Flight Attendants – Approximately 2,300 Management/Support Staff – Approximately 1,400 Mechanics and Related – Approximately 4,600 Pilots – Approximately 400 Total – Approximately 13,000 Termination of all retiree insurance benefits Increased medical care coverage Closing down Alliance maintenance facility (About 1,200 workers) Termination of all 4 pension plans Outsourcing of maintenance and ground worker jobs Quote from Jeff Brundage (SVP Human Resources American Airlines) "We believe there is a real opportunity for American’s employees to benefit when we emerge a stronger, more competitive company." Benefit..... with loss of pay, pension, retiree medical (that we pay into by the way), rising insurance cost, and jobs? How will that benefit me (a front line worker)? Funny how the only way a business can be "competitive" these days is by lowering their workers standard of living while rewarding incompetent leadership with outrageous bonuses (not pay... bonuses). This ladies and gentlemen is your class warfare. 99%.
  15. Air Force to park most A-10's http://blogs.star-telegram.com/sky_talk/2012/01/air-force-to-park-most-a-10s.html
  16. I guess I will find out what AMR's plans are tomorrow. I expect: Maintenance to be sent overseas (Why even have an FAA with almost all U.S. maintenance being done overseas) Loss of pension (But nice bonuses for our CEO's) Loss in pay (Our new CEO got a 40 percent raise last year I have not since 2001) Much higher insurance cost Massive layoffs Union dues to stay the same They can't afford to pay us but but: Are making the largest aircraft purchase in history Found 8 mansions owned by the company being used by execs for personal use (one estimated at 30 million dollars) Have done little to curb their bloated management Hired hundreds of employees within 6 months of filing
  17. Yeah MemphisBelle I already tried that in another thread. Did not work. I said those words almost exactly.
  18. You are recycling an old debate. All this has been said before. First off FSX is not even a comparable platform because it has no player vs. player element. FSX is also not nearly as complicated in scope as a DCS title. Second I rather ED concentrate on making their own offerings good and not playing gatekeeper for a bunch of third party software. It is a very logical opinion. I expect nothing but problems mixing a bunch of software made by a bunch of parties and trying to make it work in an online combat environment. Enter these "upgrades" from ED and your already making a complicated situation even worse. FSX is 1. Much less complicated in avionics and no planes I know of have anything like data linking 2. The base game has not been upgraded in years so it is stable and not evolving 3. Has no player vs player element (Tac Pac is unproven as of yet) By the way what happened to that "our server, our money, our rules" gaming clan you were in? By the way I like your DCS-Mercenaries web site.
  19. You have multiple profiles with Game Commander 2 as well plus you do not have to train it. GC2 is also fully customizable in every way.
  20. Yeah that is the standard answer "You don't have to buy it" and frankly it is weak. If you play public servers (and I do) then you have to have interaction with those airframes. A lot of the servers are not going to want WW2 era aircraft in their server but will allow it anyway due to pressure of alienating people and shrinking their server traffic. I am not saying I don't think people should be able to buy it. I am saying it has no business in a modern era combat simulator and should not be made online compatable. When I bought DCS I bought an experience and WW2 does not fit. I have IL2 for that. As far as third party.... thats a Pandora's Box I never want to see opened.
  21. I stand by what I said that idea is horrible. The problem with opening up to third parties is differing levels of quality. You will have 3rd party publishers making low quality airframes just to cash in on the DCS name. The idea of using a common aerodynamic engine for all types of aircraft is all aircraft are not aerodynamically the same. As far as immersion..... maybe they did fly it until 1984 but, I am sure it was not in the kind of combat environment we are playing in. They may have used it for observation or maybe in a less technically advanced area but I guarantee you they would never send it into battle with Flankers, T-72's and Sam's. And here is the biggest problem with third party. DCS seems to be evolving as we play it. DCS:BS2 is a perfect example. Now suppose they had third party airframes for DCS:BS /FC2..... are they going to support it when ED decides they want to do a major engine or sound overhaul DCS:BS2 FC3)? My guess.....NO! So can we please drop this third party developer nonsense?
  22. That is the most horrible idea I have ever heard.
  23. I like that they made it. I DO NOT like that they are making it online multiplayer compatable with KA-50/A10C/FC3. It will pull me right out of my immersion. Ha Ha your killing me. :)
  24. VAC sucks. Get Game Commander 2. They don't make it anymore so you might have to get "creative". Game Commander 2 does not have to be trained. I have a deep southern voice and it understands me 98 percent of the time. It is fully customizable. When I start my KA-50 all I say is "Start Aircraft" and it Begins the startup sequence Sets my countermeasures Turns my lights off Brings up my control HUD Turns my Altitude Hold AP Channel on Sets my Abris to nav mode. That is alot of function with 2 words. It even understood Shkval and LWS Reset right out of the box. No training required. If I could not have Game Commander 2 I would recommend Say2Play (this is coming from someone who has tried MOST of these programs).
