And as a second vital point how they are 'moderated'. -
Lock-On's Current Multiplayer State
golfsierra2 replied to Grimes's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
That is an excellent idea ! So the players get some guidance about the mission objectives time after time without the need to read a lengthy mission briefing. Displaying those messages would provide quite some useful 'steering' of the activities going on. I like this idea very much ! -
Observation from today, around noon: Hangar filled with pits and computers, well organized as last years (!), 2 stations introducing DCS:BS as promised. I noticed, that there were not that much spectators around, maybe due to the poor weather outside.

Lock-On's Current Multiplayer State
golfsierra2 replied to Grimes's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
So you expect to be the target of some nasty flaming for opening this discussion ? What is your picture of the average LO player then ?? The trend surely goes towards shorter flight times. Maybe people don't want to read endless, detailed mission briefings and 'waste time' preparing tactical formations, they just want to jump into their cockpit, take of and fire... At least, this is what I have seen on many HL servers before. And maybe, team tactics are not that popular because it requires a certain amount of discipline and air combat knowledge, which not that much folks can provide. IMHO, a negative example for this is the typical 'gunzo ladder'. Very popular, because it supports 'jumping into the cockpit, t/o and fire...' practice that degrades LO/FC to a typical ego shooter game. RF worked well, and I think RF 08-2 will see again sufficient response to make it happen. CA was postponed and I don't know if it will take place at all this year. The problem here still is that we have a very broad bandwidth of skills and preferences here, from the low end (ego shooter) to the experts (with military background). I doubt that this discussion will have any visible impact on peoples behavior. -
Thanks, =BR= CEROL, works fine now.

I deleted the DL links for the time being, Grandsurf looked into the files and in his opinion, the J-39C_land_light.tga will copy itself as HUAF_PAPI_LIGHT.TGA, however there also is a problem with the LOM itself. So until HUAF-074 has solved these problems, this mod will not be available. Sorry for that.
-
I checked all the single grafix-files of that mod. Those .tga look OK so far, but either installed manually or by ModMan, those white boxes appear on the frontside (the backside is ok). I only can think of one of the values either in the meinit.xml or technicstable.sht may be wrong. The only one who knows is HUAF-074. HUAF-074, may I ask you to check the .tga files of this mod and the values of the meinit.xml and technicstable.sht ?? And was this feature developed for Lock-On 1.02 or also for Flaming Cliffs 1.12 ? We need some help here, please.....

ALS animated lights MODMAN file I managed to test this great mod and created a ModMan-file. It works for FC 1.12a, mod can be installed with ModMan 6.3.0.1 Thanks again and credits to HUAF-074 for this great work. EDIT: DL links deleted. Thsi mod is not working properly. There is a problem with one of the files in this ModMan package.

Hmmm... Haven't managed to make this run. I tried this (FC 1.12a): Made the change to the technicstable.sht as directed, added ALS.lom to Lock On\Bazar\World\Shapes, added ALS5-front.tga, ALS5-back.tga and J-39C_land_light.tga to Lock On\Bazar\TempTextures and tried two approaches at 22:00 (after sunset), one with ILS and one without, and nothing showed up (the classname = "lRadarQuery"; made me think that it might have someting to do with an ILS approach that is required to see those lights..). Even with F11 clicking through all the airfield views, I never saw any of those lights.... So, HUAF_074, how are we going to install and use this mod properly ? Give some guidance, please.

Map making, are there unit limitations?
golfsierra2 replied to CapnGimp's topic in User Created Missions General
I disagree with you: The Lock-On engine isn't that 'crappy' at all. If all the ground units are active units and not static objects, the game engine has to calculate the weapons envelope for each of the active units, whether other units are in range or not. If AI is firing the weapons, trajectories of the projectiles / missiles are added to the calculation load. The more active units you put on the map, the more the engine has to calculate, which slows down the overall response time. That has nothing to do with a 'crappy' engine, it's normal behavior for every game engine. -
DLed it, thanks a lot !

Now, what happened to CA 2008-1 ? Last date for it was 15/03/2008 which passed by silently... Was it canceled ? Is it postponed ?

I really can't see why Hajduk started this topic once again....

@Epoch, congrats, I never managed to unzip that file using both WinZip and WinRar. Would you mind to sent me a copy of the extracted files ?

Who said it is due to poor modeling ? IRL a missile would maneuver a lot, too, eating up it's energy. It's no exploit. It's a defensive maneuver within the limits of this simulation. The best thing to overcome this 'disadvantage' would be mirroring the maneuvers. At least your opponents missiles would suffer from the same physics model.

http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/06-support/TrackIR-manual-v4.1.028/tir4-Chapter_3.html#h-3 Should fit. The inner distance between both legs is 55 mm , so it should be possible to clamp it onto a 5 cm screen. The way you clamp it is the same that you would do with a Laptop.

OK, easy man, now pull the green apple....

NON-COMPLIANCE TO ECM IFF "Check"
golfsierra2 replied to cool_t's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
If in doubt, don't fire. A blue-on-blue is not caused by the one not responding to a call "Callsign confirm music on" for whatever reason, the kill is achieved by somebody firing a weapon in an unclear situation. If you KNOW for sure that in the direction that you spot an ECM strobe none of your playmates is operating in front of your aircraft, you can launch as much as you want, even IR missiles. -
Is the AIM120 fire and forget???
golfsierra2 replied to maverick81's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
GGTharos, the point is that F&F describes a weapon that can be fired without requiring any further assistance by the launching aircraft after launch. That is the question: Is the missile autonomous right from the launch or not ? It has nothing to do with the question: When do I get a Launch Authorization (LA) ? You now talk about the weapons effective envelope, which results in getting a LA by the weapons computer or not. This has nothing to do with the F&F capability of a weapon in the first place. See the difference ? -
Is the AIM120 fire and forget???
golfsierra2 replied to maverick81's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
You mix up some things here: F&F is the term for a weapon that can be launched against a target without any further assistance needed. So IR are fully R&R weapons. ARH are sort of F&F provided they are launched within their seekers operational range limits. It's pretty self-explanatory that a weapon - any weapon- will only be launched or fired if the target is within the weapons effective envelope. So the range factor will make IR missiles fully F&F and ARH limited F&F missiles due to the fact that they are only F&F provided that they can go active right from the rail which is not the primary firing solution (no BVR anymore for what the ARH have been designed in the first place). -
Is the AIM120 fire and forget???
golfsierra2 replied to maverick81's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
IR seeker missiles are the only real fire&forget weapons - There is nothing more to do for you after release, no support required at all. R-77 and AIM-120 are not fully F&F capable weapons, because they need to get additional guidance for a considerable part of the travel distance before their built-in 'mini radar' is able to pick up a target. After this point, the missiles becomes fully autonomous. -
Don't know what sort of grass your friend was smoking, but like to try some, too :megalol: Seriously, there is no change in the speeds of aircraft or the virtual sensation of 'speed' between Lock-On and Lock-On + Flaming Cliffs.

graphic settings .
golfsierra2 replied to littlejohn1959's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
What other applications are running simultaneously ? Any Anti-Virus ? And beside that, Lock-On might try to load some big textures from your HDD, which might cause that "freeze". This may be due to one or more mods that you installed.
