Its the same thing. You can imagine this setup as one screen with your instruments. To see ground left and right is just a matter of FOV (zooming out) and leaning sideways with you trackIR. I still use ONE virtual camera on this setup! The stretching you would have with one screen too but you want to match your in-game FOV to the extended real FOV (where you sit in relation to your screen) so you zoom out. The setup is almost the same as if you have a big screen and sit very close to it, just mine is "curved" so the distance to the screen is closer to be consistent. Looking from left to right you have to turn your head in a bigger angle which is your real life FOV so you zoom out to have the ingame the same which then causes stretching due to limitation of most realtime-engines. And in both cases real-time graphic engines are usually not capable of calculating lens distortion(grids) so things get ugly. Try to display a 150degree camera in a standard viewport in a 3D software like 3dsmax...useless but you can render(not real time) it correctly with a special camera that calculates the distortion. There are however apparently 3rd party software that do that as post processing but you have to consider extra CPU and or GPU usage for those which costs fps again.

HM, indeed not exactly what I need but I think Iunderstand. So it would be smarter maybe if I instead of modifying files make a Modman file for it so I can revert my changes before an update (hoping that the updater buys the re-copied originals). But if one of the file's content is changed by the update it will not back it up and I won't notice and would replace it with an old and modified file afterwards which can cause problems of course..well guess we have to live with that and edit all files again each time to be save and stable. Thank you for your response. WELD

Unless someone manages to write a softTH version that works with dx11 I hope for us multi-screen/cockpit users that there is gonna be a dx9 option for Nevada

ED, would it be possible to add the modified files (file names) to the change log? We cockpit builders/users are usually modifying files to get everything working with exports, MFCD ingame render ability and instruments etc. Updates often seem to overwrite these and if one replaces them with the modified file again you miss on the change the new files came with and that obviously can have some bad results or instability sometimes. Knowing which files are going to change on an update would help a lot to know where the painful work of editing the new files is actually necessary. Thank you very much in Advance! WELD

The FIX mentioned here worked for me as well! Finaly, thank you! I did a fresh install which turned out to not fix the issue. Then I deactivated Bitdefender and windows firewall (not sure if that was needed but I did it just in case. I right clicked the dcs_updater.exe -> restore previous versions You need an old version of the file (mine was months old) BUT...DO NOT open/double click the old file here! It will give you some new errors like "file is write protected" (though it is not. But maybe in this recovery stage it is) Instead click copy and copy it over into the bin folder, then run it...it will update itself etc. and your life is a happy one again! You can then activate firewall and BD again (if you ever had to turn it off at all, not sure) and the updater will keep executing fine. cheers, WELD

I have the same problem but your fix makes no change for me unfortunately :( I tried excluding the folder and files in Bitdefender in case that's related to the issue but no success. Cant even install a module because it tries to access the updater on installation and that brings up that same error message. Do you have any more information on your problem what else you might have done that could have caused a success? Thank you in advance, Weld EDIT/UPDATE: FIXED IT!!! -> http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1992049&postcount=56

Sorry I'm late, I thought nobody posted anything since last summer cuz I stopped getting notifications for some reason. That Helmet is just a stupid cheap made in china "fighter pilot style" motorbike helmet from ebay that doesn't even fit my head when I ripped out the cushions, dont buy it! The real deal costs 400-1000 bucks, not worth it. Would be nice of course to have a mask with real oxygen flow especially when you get tired at n8 flying your sim :) Or vape some kerosine through it for the extreme experiance, haha

Help with computer upgrade
Weltensegler replied to duramax170's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Regarding you graphics card's vram...for DCS you can use the old rule of thumb 1gb vram per 1080p but it might get dangerously close to the limit especially when you add a second monitor even though the game is not running on it. If you use one monitor only you should get at least 1,5gb vram on your graphic card. Note that in case of more than one card your primary card has to have the needed vram. Vram doesn't add up. Good luck! -
A bit yes :) well the front panel 24" touch screen gets pretty hot despite the space I left for airflow. The PC of course too. Though the CPU is water cooled I can only run it at 4.9GHz in the winter (L.A winter) And its recommended to fly in underwear if a mission takes longer than an hour bc the room is not much bigger than the cockpit. Need to find some astronaut under ware with water circulation.

...so is Nevada :) There is a good chance to see a bunch of 3rd Party models before those get released I think

Background for indicator exports
Weltensegler replied to Weltensegler's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Those should export by the Sim and don't need a BG I think (not 100% about the CDU) -
Sorry...I didn't notice the activity on this thread. Still any help needed? regarding alt-tab: The Alt-tab sux a bit but there are workarounds. For example have the software open like TS and email etc and you should be able to bring them on top of DCS with alt-tab while DCS will freeze flickering in the BG until you click it or "blind alt tab" it again. I can even bring my task bar on top and start programs and then go back.

Its true, the auto updater doesn't update by changing file content but overwriting files so whereever there are changes of course custom ones get lost. this time my controls were not affected though. But all my modifications for multi monitor stuff and display exports I have to copy in each time. And now that there were A10 changes I might have to see if I have to create new ones if there are changes to other functions in the same files...don't see how ED could prevent that though...that's just how it is. Only thing you can do is backing up your custom files etc and compare them to the new ones if change log indicates possible changes on those.

Background for indicator exports

Can you confirm that even with this many it doesn't decrease fps/performance? Cool effort! -
Background for indicator exports
Weltensegler replied to Weltensegler's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Glad to hear that Sorin! As I said they don't all work the same way. Some have roots in a bunch of reference files or you have to add the function in every mode the RWR (example) can be in. And test ur performance after the most important ones. The backgrounds don't cost performance but each new indicator you export. I export only these too for that reason. (see my cockpit) link. Good luck! @David Wong: sorry I don't really understand your problem. :( Can try again in different words? -
With all respect Sir,..this is no game, its a simulator...its not meant to be flown with keyboard or game pad. You will never have full control over it or fly like the people in the videos you've seen if you don't get yourself at least a 20 bucks flight stick. If you really wanna fly this sim you won't regret it for sure.

haha, thank you! :) my only concern is Nevada map. If nobody writes a new softTH for dx11 I might be a little screwed. On the other hand Nevada tokk and will take its time so we might see some more CPU and graphic card generations that actually can give me current performance in windowed mode. Still not the same bc I cant render over half displays and all the other nice features.
-
yeah what Eddie said. The second picture shows a huge difference in distance... you "snapped" off target. You should still be able to either reset by china aft short or to realign on target by china forward long (if you made it SPI before). in general try to alsways find ur targets with constantly switching slew and ground stabilization...basically never end slewing by stoping to slew but by pushing TMS down short ....slew right-tms down short ...slew up -tms down short. If you leave the seeker just a half a second without ground stabilization (even if you just change direction sometimes) it looses tracking and the closer you get to the target the more sensitive that gets.

That sounds awesome FLIM! I wonder if you could go higher in res with more CPU though since I have those frame rates on 5x1080p assuming you also have the render area on the 3 of them and displays and Helios on the 2 remaining. But on the other hand since you don't use trackIR with it you probably use 3 view-port cameras to avoid planar stretching which takes more resources.

Need help with multi-monitor setup..game not using one monitor?
Weltensegler replied to Smoky's topic in Home Cockpits
The symbol in screen 1 is the symbol for main monitor. Symbols on screen 2,3,4 show desktop extensions.
