AIM-9X is not supposed to be "easy" to dodge especially in a Su-22. It's very likely the Syrian pilot to have had no clue about the Super Hornet being around not to mention shooting. AIM-120 is not very likely to have been used in this case given that it really matters to be sure at who you are shooting at hence the need to come WVR and identify. My guess is 9X, single shot.

Great stuff! Looking forward to it

4vs4 furball near Lipetsk: yJl02345vgI -
Thanks for your efforts in sharing the experience, Rich. The Flanker 2 times although mostly offline were indeed good ones. Everything was driven by pure enthusiasm, your site(s) being a typical example. Hope you'll stick around.

Eh? How come I've flown hundreds of hours till now with the gear lever in up position with the air pressure not dropping a single psi?
-
That's actually a key feature that was in the manual since the very beginning but was implemented just now - after you retract the landing gear and it's up an locked you have to move the lever to neutral. Otherwise you'll discharge the compressed air bottle as the brakes will be constantly applied. If the pressure goes to zero then you can kiss bye-bye the normal braking plus the chute. That pressure is indicated on a gauge on your right panel (left needle), just bellow the radar control panel. I don't know why this wasn't in the update change log.

What?!?! Did we get Su-33 PFM with the latest DCS 2.0 patch?
RvETito replied to Schmidtfire's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
There definite difference between Su-33 in 2.0 and 1.5, especially at high AOA. In 2.0 it's shaking as well but it's much more controllable. -
Is it just me or there is a significant flight model change of the Su-33 in the last 2.0 update? The change log says nothing related but that bird flies completely different now. And I have to say that I absolutely love it! Especially at high AOA, you kinda feel the canards working by the improved control authority. Just did some parallel tests in 1.5 and 2.0 and it feels like those are two different aircrafts with the same cockpit. Anyone feeling the same?

Thanks to all organizers and participants, it was fun!

Good job Maverick, that was a pretty fast reaction.
-
What does that suppose to mean? Has anyone tested it?

Who cares about a2a missiles when nukes are allowed? :D Actually, are they?

I'm really sad I missed the event due to work :( I only managed to catch the last half an hour and it was indeed fun to watch and listen. Hopefully I'll be more lucky next time.

LOOOL :D How dare you, comrade?! :D

The new critical angle of attack might be too low!

Yep, I also feel the FM sort of degraded nowadays. Especially the mentioned high AOA handling and behavior. -

Single-seat Su-27 in a dogfight with USAF F-16 near Groom lake - https://theaviationist.com/?p=40925 -
There are old pictures of red-stared F-14 which claimed to have been taken in the USSR. Stated to be ex-Iranian property. F-14 '02' - http://usaircraft.proboards.com/thread/1420 (too much Photoshop IMO) More trusty info is for numerous test flights of an ex-USAF F-5E abandoned in Vietnam, delivered to the USSR in 1976 and flown numerous times vs MiG-21bis and MiG-23 dogfights with kick-ass success as source bellow states. Later disassembled for researches. F-5E in Akhtubinsk AB in 1976 - http://www.politicalforum.com/warfare-military/437781-f-5e-soviet-airforce.html (those pics seem more authentic). That article is quiet interesting (in russian) - http://www.testpilot.ru/review/runway/volga/volga_xvi.htm

Ka-50 all the way! Apart of my personal addiction it offers much more diversity of roles and missions in DCS.

I pretty much understand but there is a huge difference between "cheat" and "(un)realistic". Leavu is a public release - use it or don't use it. Like any public server out there - fly there or don't.
-
Hmm, interesting logic Rage but seems a bit weightless to me. If we consider LEAVU a cheat according to your criteria we have to put on the same shelf goodies like TrackIR and any HOTAS system because at least my copy of DCS and all the modules I've purchased didn't come with them and I had to buy them separately. Since you are so much for the fair game I guess you're flying with the keyboard and using the mouse to look around? Or you'd say that since I have to pay for it it's not considered a cheat? Yoda should have made it payware, not that he would become that rich but I'm pretty sure the attitude would be much different. That just confirms something I learned in my current job - people don't take seriously things that come to them free of charge..

Lock-On FC1.1 doesn't work with WIN10
RvETito replied to risiclaudio's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Not very likely, it's all DCS World now. -
On every real aircraft exceeding the g-limit in flight or during hard landing is calling an un-scheduled maintenance and if deformations are found on primary structure it's very likely the airframe to be considered BER and hence written off, as someone mentioned. That was something I've always wanted to see in a flight sim. You overstress your bird - boy, you're now grounded for a month :D Of course, for commercial product like DCS would be nonsense for example as penalty to limit you somehow of accessing certain parts you've paid for. But having something that will force you to fly the aircraft in the most realistic manner (as much as the modeling allows) is a great feature in my eyes. So watch out how pull-happy you are with the stick and enjoy flying the Flanker :)
-
Structural disintegration is not new to this sim. Back in the FC1/2 days the Su-25/T had the very same limit - fly it with flaps in combat position and no stores, speed up to 850-900 kph and pull hard on the stick. You can kiss your wings bye-bye... The bottom line is we can never go wrong with modeled in-service limitation of the particular airframe. This will only makes virtual pilots more disciplined and improve the immersion. I'm sick and tired of online airquake. The pilot, even virtual, is first of all a thinking person, so lets not take away this primary function.

Gameplay balance? What kind of balance is to pull infinity high G's with 9 tons of fuel and full weaponry? The maximum capacity of 9400kg fuel is uplifted only for long range, usually ferry flights or escort in best case. In Russian terms the subject internal volumes are actually called "internal drop tanks" meaning that they would only be filled if additional to the available in the other "regular" tanks fuel is needed. Having so much space in the fuselage the Su-27 actually doesn't need external drop tanks. I admire this feature in the new update. The only thing that it brings to the gameplay is that people should now finally FLY the plane within it's limitations and things like BFM will become essential.
