Compatibility Patch & Missing features of the Ka-50
winz replied to STP Dragon's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I'm pretty sure, you can allign shkval to a tgt point. I'm almost certain I used that functionality quite alot. Cannot test it atm, but I think all it takes is to select a target point on the nav panel and uncage shkval. -
Compatibility Patch & Missing features of the Ka-50
winz replied to STP Dragon's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Isn't it? I haven't flown the BS in a while but isn't it possible to enter a target point into the rubicon nav system (in L-L format) and then slave the skhval to the location? Anyway...I would love to see buddy lasing even if it's not realistic. -
Think about it like playing a FPS with pure keyboard. Sure, you can use the keys to look around, but the unresponsivness and binary nature of keys will eventualy lead to frustration... Sure you can use keys to control control surfaces, but it will be unresponsive and very clunky.

speed brake extend/retract cycle speed....
winz replied to gear_monkey's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Looks pretty much the same speed as in sim to me. -
It's the other way around. Steam pulled Crysis 2 of their distribution because EA broke some terms.

I love Wags newest avatar :D:D -
Nope, that's the QNE, standard pressure at sea level. The altimeter then reads altitude above sea level at standard pressure. For QNH you need to get the actual pressure at sea level that you'll set on the altimeter from an external source (tower i.e.). But there is no such source available...all are reporting QFE

The reason why F4 is still played is that noone has dared to touch the HC sim market again after they saw what happened to microprose and LP. What was the competition for F4? Isn't it the other way around, that there was no other hard-core sim for a modern period jet available? Creating something everyone wants can be fiscal suicide. Because even everyone is a finite number of customers. And when we are talking about high-fidelity sim, then it is a quite a small finite number. There is no guarantee that the sales will cover the development cost. And you cannot just throw infinte money into featuries 'that everybody wants'. That's just bad business plan. I would love to see a DC, but we have no right to demand one from ED. In fact, we should be thankfull that atleast someone is tending to this niche market as ED is with the DCS series. Let the people resposible for the company make the decisions.

How can you program in C++ without malloc and free, or do you honestly think that the game would be playable in managed languages like C# or Java? Dream on :)

I've no experience in lua, so I have hard time reading it. But if it is all writen in lua, then it would be good if someone experienced in it would take a look and say if it's reusable. I admit that I have no idea how lua scripting works, so I'm shooting blind here :)

I was in the same situation. Had a Logitech wireless stick and was deciding between a HOTAS and TrackIR. Bought TrackIR and never regreted it. You have a stick, so you can fly. The ability to look around is much more beneficial then the added comfort and precision of a HOTAS.

How much work would it be for ED to make the mission editor a lib with documented api (i.e. for the next DCS product), so we could use the editor functionality from another application? Because the way I see it, the process of reverse engineering the mission structure and then creating custom lua serializer for the mission + mirroring all the editor functionality + keeping up with the the patches is a huge pita for some sort of 3rd pary DC engine. And ED obviously has all the functionality allready implemented, making it accessible would help a lot.

But you need atleast a system to carry some variables values between campaign missions. Without that, you are unable to provide consistency between missions.

You may try sisoft sandra - http://www.sisoftware.net/

Who or what the hell is Winchester?
winz replied to WildBillKelsoe's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I heard this explanation as well. The military used two rifle brands, winchester and one other I cannot remmember. These rifles had incompatible bullets, so when you ran out of ammo during the firefight, you called your brand, so the runner knew which bullets to get. Eventualy winchester became dominant in the military, so everybody yelled wincherster when they were out of ammo. -
The only thing protected in any way is the pilot. Most of the electronics are outside the titanium bathtub, and have virtualy no protection.

You can pull the external power supply out to stop recentering on a force feedback wheel. A FF Racing wheel is centered by the FF motor, which needs to be powered by an external power supple, USB is not enough. No external power supply = no centerning.

Don't you have a profile or something where it has to be set aswell? The combined pedals are working for me no problem.
-
You must set the pedals to be a combined axis in the Logitech profile manager.

Take On Helicopter - New game by Bohemia Interactive

You can see the Arma 2 light engine (especialy on the smoke), which is great. For me Arma 2 has the best day-night transmission, in terms of simulating the reduced effectivity of cone cells in dim light. And it's pitch black nights are fabulous :) Looking forward to fly in such condition :) -
I've tuned my lables so they are all the same collor and don't display any information about the target. I try to fly without them, but turn them on on occassion. Mostly when I've problem finding targets that are required to trigger some mission trigger. I utterly hate the 'destroy everything or the mission is a utter failure' scheme some missions follow.

GBU-38 is gps guided with coordinates given to the bomb during release. Those coordinates cannot be updated in-flight, thus the GBU-38 cannot track moving targets.

Yeah, but I haven't noticed IRL mirrors eating up frame rates ;) Mirrors are quite big performance hog.

35/100 :-/ I was expecting a little more, too bad they discarted everything that made old-school fps great and used everything that makes modern fps boring.
