  1. My subjective opinion is that, it is not better than the AI for planes. It's very simple, they also follow the same routines (i.e. when damaged turn on nav lights and fly slowly to base, ignoring everything around you). Why do you think they are more complex? Because they use pitch, rudder and collective? Well the AI planes use pitch/roll/rudder/throttle... I've seen Ka-50 shoot down F-15C with cannon... I was shot down in the A-10 by a Ka-50 that was doing a 90 degree nose-up dive.
  2. They are not. Have you not seen what kind of maneuvers they can pull off? They flight modeling is very simplified as well.
  3. There should be a use AFM for AI planes option... so people could see how 20x AFM would smash their CPU to its knees. The AI will always have less complex flight model, because a)Your cpu is happy it is able to handle one complex flight mode at a time. b)A more complex AI would be required to handle more complex flight mode, thus even more CPU power would be needed.
  4. Looks great. I'm in dire need of a well modeled medium size airliner :).
  5. Just to add to BlackRazor, the DCS executable is /LARGEADDRESSAWARE.
  6. Just a personal question - why do you have 6GB of RAM witch a 32bit OS? Oo
  7. Not to mention that the performance boost from double/triple/(and most likely quad) channel is pretty small. You'll not see a difference in most applications.
  8. Behind the stick.
  9. Past Rockstars games (rdr and LA) are the only reasons I think about buying a xbox360.

    FSX Discussion

Got some question for the FSX crowd here. I've got a new machine (this one can finally handle FSX), so I'm slowly setting up FSX again. The spec is: intel i5 2500k Nvidia GTX 560ti 8GB Ram So the questions: 1) Any ideas how to tweak FSX to be less CPU hungry? What are the most CPU hungry features except traffic? because that seems to be a bottleneck even for this CPU. As GPU is not exceeding 50% load. FPS are around 30 on full settings, except traffic. 2)Any ideas for good addons? So far I got REX, TrafficX and Live ATC chatter. Any aircrafts there worth the bucks? I would prefer som jet airliners and immersion addons. Thanks. :)
  12. Haven't you got any spare rotary or slider on your HOTAS that can be mapped to the wheel brake axis?
  13. In 64bit windows 32bit application have all 4GB of virtual memory available, because the 64bit OS can use the address space outside the 32bit limitation for kernel. ;) http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=889654
  14. Yes, because when you are building a new comp it is reasonable to order parts from vendors across the europe and not from the ones close to you (in case of faulty parts) that you have most positive experience with. Nice setup btw :)
  15. You can also get OC versions of 560ti that's running at faster clock speeds and is guaranteed to go even faster. And 560ti gains quite a lot by overclocking http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-geforce-gtx-560-ti-gf114,2845-14.html
  16. That Carmack line is totally out of context, it's from a 2007 game informer article, when directX 10 was a totally new api and only the most expensive cards were able to handle it. He followed the line with "I especially like the work I’m doing on the [Xbox] 360, and it’s probably the best graphics API as far as a sensibly designed thing that I’ve worked with," Guess what api he was refering to ;) Using lines so out of context doesn't give much credibility to your arcticle. edit: Something more recent http://www.tomshardware.com/news/john-Carmack-DirectX-OpenGL-API-Doom,12372.html
  17. Even Carmack, once a great advocate of OpenGL is saying that OpenGL just missed the train and has fallen way behind. On the other hand, direct3D has matured and the situation now is totally different from 1997. OpenGL is playing catchup. The biggest advantage of direct3D is that it has a big company backing it up and handling the communication with big hw players, nvidia and amd. And keep in mind that your arcticle is almost one and half year old...

    ArmA III

Playable in 2013 :P Couldn't help myself. Looking forward to it... big fan since OFP :)
  19. So you don't look around? Even rotation is a 3D movement and cannot be achieved by a simple 2D picture tracking. You have to have atleast 3 steady points to be able to achieve 6DOF. I personally do quite bit of movement when things gets messy. He was just sliding around, my webcam can track me while I move around. His project wasn't about 6DOF control, but about face recognition and that is a different problem. Only at xbox. The main problem I see with kinekt in this application is its size and limited fov.
  20. There is a big difference between tracking an object in a 2d picture (my webcam can do it) and computing how that object is moving in 3D space. You can also see that the point tracking he created is very jittery (the point is not steady, but is changing rapidly), you can see that effect every clearly in the PIP on 2:25. I want my view in sim to be rock steady. Kinect is not more accure than trackIR (personal experience).
  21. Sorry, I only know rain dance... it's called 'washing your car'
  22. Dunno, I don't have the normal X52. Give it a try. Just note.. I'm finnishing my master degree now, so my time to support this app (and what's worse, fly :( ) is very limited.
  23. What will you do when the sun will not shine for a week because of cloudy sky? Will you shut down industry (the biggest consumer of electricity)? The general rule is that for every unreliable energy source (wind, sun) there has to be a reliable (gas, coal) energy source in standby. Where will you build those solar plants? Will you sacrifice wast areas of fertile land for them? How 'nice' will it look on the landscape?
  24. No, as BS is still a 32bit app, it will not be able to adress more then 4GB.
