  1. I would suggest you to dumb C++ and start with some of the more modern managed languages (C# or Java). They are easier to learn because they are much more streamlined and you don't have to mess with things like memory management, headers, forward declarations... Their SDKs (software developer kids) also contains many functionality you'll require for creating anything more complex than "hello world" (strings, file manipulation, collections etc.). Also making gui in C++ is a pain (and requires a 3rd party package). Anyway, Good luck :)
  2. Great episode. It added a person behind some of the nicknames and avatars, who for years contributed to this community with their knowledge. :)
  3. I don't think we can expect anything different from what we have now. EDGE is a rendering engine and outside of rendering the defined weather it has nothing to do with weather system. So we may see nicer looking clouds or better overcasts, but the underlying system won't change.
  4. Just finished listening to the first episode. It was excellent and is certainly something that was missing. Subscribed, looking forward for more. Is this your first time doing a podcast? I'm asking, because your hosting was exceptionally good for a first try :) Good mic voice, no mic shyness, clear pronunciation, no awkward silence. Now I'm going to order some of those Mk82.5. :joystick:
  5. Oh, sorry then. Haven't noticed the thickness change myself.
  6. No, the "problem", as mentioned above by Polychop Simulations, is that at some RPM the model of propeller is no longer rendered and replaced by a simple cylinder with a texture (that looks like a blurred propeler). No animations are done on this cylinder. Its the same for every propeller (heli or airplane). I said "problem" because every game does it this way. It could by fixed by changing the cylinder size based on the propeller pitch, but honestly, I think the development time required is better spent elsewhere.
  7. Cold start, always. There is something magical about the aircraft slowly coming to life :)
  8. I've made a little app that goes through all .lods files in a directory + all its subdirectiories and replaces the ld_tec.edm with the previously used lod (i.e. for p-51D "P-51D_lod5.edm" is used instead of the big green box). It also extends the last lod visibility, if it is lower then the distance specified. I haven't done much testing, so I cannot tell if doesn't screw some models, or how much of a performance hit it will be. But, I can upload it here, if anyone is interested. OFC, it's for SP only, as you'll fail integrity check on any server that checks the lods.
  9. Realy good find, some entries do really look weird, like the AH-64A model = { lods = { {"ah-64a.edm",50.000000}, {"ah-64a_lod1.edm",100.000000}, {"ah-64a_lod2.edm",200.000000}, {"ah-64a_lod3.edm",300.000000}, {"ah-64a_lod4.edm",400.000000}, {"ah-64a_lod5.edm",5000.000000}, {"ld_tec.edm",10000.000000}, }, collision_shell = "ah-64a-collision.edm", } A box after 5km...and no model at all after 10km
  10. Had something similiar some months ago, it was only the P-51D and only when I was directly put into the cockpit. If there were multiple planes to choose from, then it worked. I fainlty remember it were indeed some export statements, maybe from helios. I'm not really sure.
  11. I don't think so. I see big difference between head tracking and VR. VR is impressive, but the device puts a big barrier between you and the real world. So accessing written notes, browsing/chating or in anyway interacting with the real world while playing is complicated. Also I don't see VR working with home-build cockpits. There will always be market for head tracking devices.
  12. Yes, I have the dics version of BS1 and never had any trouble with BS2 upgrade version.
  13. I don't WW2 stuff, I don't want vietnam stuff, I don't wan't 70s tech, I don't want another heli, I don't want trainer aircraft. I don't want another US platform. I want the good ol' days of pure DCS back. When you could only fly the BS, and the A-10C was still years away. I hate what DCS World has become, I hate that I have a choice and can select from variety of aircraft from different eras. /s
  14. Considering how basic the Su-25A is in terms of avionics, I doubt that it has any kind of voice warning system. What video was it? Wasn't it a modernized SM model?
  15. Disabling governors is really a bad idea. The governors area not preventing you to use max power, they are preventing you to overspeed the engines. If you turn them off while at max collective you'll overspeed your engines and ruin them within a minute. How high were you flying? Couldn't it be icing?

    F-35 vs MIG-21

Not only that, AFAIK his vision of F-16 was a simple aircraft without any radar, only able to carry short range IR missiles. The final version was not to his liking. And he was also againts the F-15 because, in his opinion, the aircraft just had too many 'gadgets'...
  17. Thanks for the explanation Yo-Yo, now I finally understand why mustang behaves to the way it does. :)
  18. This looks interesting. I'm gonna try this for sure :)
  19. http://cs620617.vk.me/v620617799/11fe3/amxYLvs358w.jpg Photo from Snizhne today... How the hell did a bunch of separatist get their hands on something like this?
  20. One of the separatist leader, Strelkov, was publicly stating, that they have shot down a plane http://std3.ru/ef/41/1405610146-ef41d7464b30da37118c8bf6c86d11e6.png That was around the time the Malaysian plane dissapeared. Also there are reports that bodies are scattered in area around 15km from the crash site, which suggest that the plane atleast partialy disintegrated in-flight. edit: translation "We just shot down An-26 (note:ukrainian transport plane used by military) near the city of Torez, the debris is lying somewhere close to the coal-mine "Progress. " We have warned before not to fly in "our sky." And here is the video confirmation that "the rain of dead birds" continues. The plane fell behind a spoil tip, the residential sector is not caught. Civilians are not injured.
  21. Well, they are the only survivor of the sim market collapse some 10+ years ago. And not only did they survive, they also pushed the boundries of simulation fidelity and their platform is growing. So I don't think they are doing anything wrong...
  22. F-15E ;) Afaik, those "shoot" messages were part of the "radio assist" assist that can be turned in options menu. Not sure if it works for upgraded version of F-15C.
  23. Dovetail games, the creator of Train Simulator 2014, acquired rights to develop and publish products based on Microsft Flight Simulator series. They also acquired the rights to distribute FSX via Steam. Good news: http://www.dovetailgames.com/news/2014/jul/9/dovetail-games-licensing-deal-with-microsoft-takes-flight
  24. The way I understand it: noise jamming is basicaly jamming by raw force. You make the radars frequency unusable by flooding it with high power noise. It can only work at ranges where the power of your jammer is stronger than the radar signal. Deception jamming is trying to confuse the tracking radar logic i.e. by creating false radar returns, so the tracking logic will have hard time figuring out which of the received signals are valid and can be used for missile guidance.
  25. Wow, downloaded the updated version with bigger clouds and just..wow.... It looks soo freaking good. Thanks for the hard work.
