I'm able to reproduce this 100% of times: 1)Load the attached mission 2)Immediately order the wingman to do a reconnaissance for 5km 3)The moment your transmission end the game will crash with ctd. edit: I've done a quick mission with only 2 Ka-50 flight and a bunch of BTRs, and it works no problem. So it must be something in that mission that causes that CTD. edit2: It's those static objects, after I deleted those the mission will no longer CTD. New Mission.miz Logs.zip

The Enemy Within SP Campaign FULL for A10C
winz replied to baltic_dragon's topic in User Created Missions General
What a ride. :) Finished the campaign yesterday and I must say this is the best A-10C campaign I have played. It got everything, good story, pacing and most important of all - mission variety, each and evey mission is interesting in a different way. Also the interaction with AI is superb, I felt that I was part of a bigger operation where each unit contributed. This was helped a lot by the voiced radio messages. :) -
The Enemy Within as official DLC
winz replied to baltic_dragon's topic in A-10C The Enemy Within Campaign (legacy version)
Two little bugs I found in Odessa File. 1)The Migs were chasing me without me violating the border 2)The AIM-9 in the default loadout is the training one.... :D :D -
The Enemy Within as official DLC
winz replied to baltic_dragon's topic in A-10C The Enemy Within Campaign (legacy version)
Congratulations, well deserved. I'm currently playing the campaign, and it is the best A-10C campaign I've played, and one of the best of all the campaigns. It is up there with Revanche, Deployment campaign. Truly a piece of superb work, will surely buy the upgraded version once it is available. :) One small idea - I don't remember the mission name, but it is the one you have to dive deep under the cloud cover, into a valley, to destroy an SA-9 after which a JTAC will become available and will you task you to destroy two bunkers. In the mission briefing you're ordered to stay in safe altitude, above the SAM envelope. It would be great to give player a hint in a way of a radio msg "permitted to descent below hard deck". -
Packed newsletter :) Big thanks to ED for keeping us informed :)

No, luminance comes into play with every bright object. There is only so much cd/m2 your monitor can push (and that's only for pure white), and that number is much lower than what a reflecting surface can have on a bright day. Basically, it's is very hard for a computer monitor to trully display a bright reflective surface because IRL the luminance of that surface is much higher than it's surrounding, that's why it catches yours eyes attention. Not to mention that contrast is one of the weaknesses of LCDs in general. It also plays a big role in night, where the luminance of every light source makes them easily spotable from a very big distance. Once again, this is something that is very hard to do with monitors. You'll not be able to spot a plane with navigational lights from 15+nm in sim, while irl it's pretty easy.
-
Also, resolution and FoV is not the single limitation. You still have limited luminance, no real interaction between light and shiny surfaces. Limited contrast. The problem that the whole world is basicaly a few repating textures..etc..etc. Spotting targets IRL is hard, but it is hard for different reasons that it is in the sim.

Yes, you have the option to set them in mission editor, so the mission gets most likely fine tuned to match the skill of the mission designer designing the mission and not the player. Going through the mission editor and changing AI skill of all flights is not something that should be expected from a regular player. There should be a more natural way to increase/decrease the difficulty.
-
This is something that has been on my mind for a while. Basically, I would like to see an ability to set AI Difficulty (separately for Friendlies/Enemies or Red/Blue) in the options menu. This option would then apply to all mission the player would fly. Why would I like to see this? Because skill varies from player to player and currently there are very few options to customize the sim to fit the skill of the player. Sure, you can tone down the realism settings, but I doubt many people like this approach. Having a global setting for AI difficulty would alow the player to better fine-tune the difficulty of the sim. Which in turn would allow the same mission to be enjoyable, and challenging, for both novices and experienced simmers. What are your opinions?
-
From an interview with a real A-10pilot on simhq If he has such problems with a full blown military simulator that is most likely projected on a big surface then I have hard time give credit to people that say that the dificulties of object spotting in sim are true to real life. The problem is only exaggerated with the unrealistic situational awarness the AI possess.

1.2.16 Very difficult to load the Su27 cockpit textures
winz replied to Falcon_S's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
Have you tried single player with multiple airframes available (i.e few Su-27, few A-10C)? I think the difference between SP (with single airframe) and MP is that assets in SP case are loaded during initial mission load but in MP it is after you select your airframe. Do you have antivirus active? Or anything else that could slow down disk performance? -
Isn't something similiar hapening everytime a storm front moves over Germany in summer?
-
I don't see what is weird on the pilots movements. He looks at the plane he's flying in close proximity, the quickly scan his instruments, then looks back on the plane, and repeats. What's weird on that? That he's doing it quickly?
-
I wonder how many mission irl are considered failed because the pilot missed the last btr hidden in the tree line. Or how many IRL fly hardcore without any talk-on where the spotted threats really are. And "2, tally armor, 5'oclock for 10" is enough for them ;)

Just keep in mind that this method doesn't work in campaigns. It will not advance the campaign.

A-10C Mini Campaign: Operation Save Badger (SP & MP)
winz replied to Quirkitized's topic in User Created Missions General
Just finished the campaign as well, it was very well done. I really enjoyed it :) -
What excess DRM are you talking about? Because DCS uses starforce proactive that has nothing to do with the starforce DRM you're most likely talking about (the one using ring0 driver for DVD checks). It doesn't install any driver, or any other 3rd party software. It uses a simple onetime online activation via CD-key. No 3rd party apps required, no constant internet access required. It is much less restrictive than any other DRM method used today (including steam).
-
There is a keystroke (afaik it's 'SHIFT') that opens the activation window during start-up, even if the modules are activated. Check your controllers profiles (Target/Saitek profiler) that they are not emulating the SHIFT keypress.
-
Yes, ED should move to the current trend. That is to create an online authentication service, they could call it ED-Play, strap some quick build e-shop on top of it, so it couldn't be called allways online DRM. Mandatory client you have to install is a given. The current trend would also require the whole service to collaps everytime a new module is released. That would certainly be much better than the current scheme - enter CD key during first launch a never care again.

The Ultimate Argument Campaign - DLC for Su27
winz replied to Lino_Germany's topic in Su-27 The Ultimate Argument Campaign
So the whole triggers section is disabled? Or I just cannot edit the hardcoded ones, but can insert new ones into the mission? I'm asking as a precaution, because I had few issues with recent ED campaigns where the only way for me to progress and enjoy the campaign was to edit it. The issues varied from being opposed with an overwhelming force of enemies (because other AI flights were wiped out) to not being able to assing a CAP to attack an enemy heli flight that was decimating ground troops I was tasked to escort in A-10C, because the heli group was hidden in ME. I don't plan to edit anything until I really have to ;) But I think that even without touching triggers I should be able to make the missions enjoyable, should any such issue appear. So I'm going to buy this, because from the trailer I get flashbacks from Revanche and Deployment, which were imho the best campaigns (and I never had issues in those :D ). :) -
The Ultimate Argument Campaign - DLC for Su27
winz replied to Lino_Germany's topic in Su-27 The Ultimate Argument Campaign
Just one question before I buy, are the mission files openable/editable in mission editor? -
This. I'm currently playing the Goergian Hammer with CA and it is much much better experience. You're no longer at the mercy of the fix AI waypoints, but can redirect them as you see fit. You can keep your CAP nearby and order them to attack those pesky migs (but you need to change the visibility of the red flight in ME to do this easily), you can assign all the CAS flight to focus on the area you need cleared...etc... You can order your grond troops to stop.. find a different path, concentrate artillery fire, re-assing all your AA units to cover the important units...etc. I think it is worth the $6.

You see, this is the problem. When you're talking about 'fixing ATC', then you're are, from sw development standpoint, no longer talking about bug fixing, but about a new feature development. Because the problem with ATC is not that it doesn't work, the problem is that it's very basic and its fidelity is totaly insufficient. There is nothing to fix, it has to be rewritten.
