7800X3D, 7900X3D, 7950X3D..
Hoirtel replied to EightyDuce's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'm sure they will sell, but for gaming alone the 7800 is the clear and therefore more popular choice. They are staggering the release just to give them a foothold in the market. Unusual for a lowest end SKU to be more anticipated! Are the standard chips not better for video rendering? -

Clear confirmation from AMD that the 7900X3D and 7950X3D are a bit of a waste. Delaying the one the everyone wants to sell the others first. Been waiting ages already guess I gotta wait more. -
It it really worth using the open XR tool kit with DCS? The main app still works just fine for me.

Some.of the bombs have really long fuse delays. Like 30 minutes. I can never remember which ones though...

Yeah agreed. I wish they would remove it altogether, including those bindings pages.

Upgrading from i9900K to AMD 7700X: Thoughts?
Hoirtel replied to Lurker's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hmm. Not sure TBH. I mean it is only DCS that I am bothered about... I was under the impression that B.die overclocked better rather than performed better at the same clocks. The uplift shows the uplift between two CPUs. Do you have DCS details of the 5600X with both RAM kits? Not sure about the bottleneck calculator... I mean where is all that data coming from, there are too many variables to take these things literally. There will always be a bottle neck in your system otherwise you would have unlimited FPS. Also you talk about taking technology "risks" ...that's the game with buying new stuff. You can reduce it a bit by waiting for a few reviews or reduce it more by waiting for lots of user feedback, then you can reduce it more by waiting longer and then you have to wait again as the new stuff is coming out. If you want the new things you gotta do it and just be as informed as you can be. Glad your AMD GPU is working out. It didn't for some..... -

So I mostly agree, but I'm in the position of needing a new board whatever I do so 13th gen and AM5 are both expensive. Yes 13th gen could do an older board I suppose. As for RAM I really am trying to learn as much as I can, but it seems that although DDR5 isn't hands down quicker yet RAM speed for gaming at high resolutions isn't that much of a difference. You don't wanna go too slow but the bottlenecks are elsewhere so as long as you get something decent, it should all roughly be the same, for DCS. Not for benching. Ryzen is early days but the new X3Ds could be really good for DCS and thats all I care about so if its good (IF!) it doesn't make sense to wait any longer. As you say DDR5 speed isn't that important here anyway. If I decide to go with 13700K which will be a similar price I can just stick with my DDR4 64Gb kit and that will be cheaper. It all depends on how good the 3XD is. It might be really good for DCS. Why is high quality RAM die's important for DCS? especially in VR with ultra high pixel counts. Would you prioritise quality die (and presumably latency/speed) over capacity? -
Dedicated Haptic Feedback - for bass shakers and the like
Hoirtel replied to jross194's topic in DCS Core Wish List
You can hear it, but using the EQ to cut off the higher frequencies reduces this a lot. I also wear headphones but I am assured that it can't be heard outside the room! One thing is that transducers should also be physically isolated so that the vibrations don't transfer into everything else. This will be another reduction of noise and interference for others and also ensures you get a better quality feeling. I use a home made simpit with a wooden frame and a sim racing seat which sits on a plywood platform. That platform is mounted to the frame using pump isolators bought on ebay (Anti Vibration Rubber Mounts). Transducers are also on the platform. Works really well - its not totally silent though. -

Hoirtel replied to jross194's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Yeah its definitely a bit subjective. The game doesn't include telemetry for g forces but it does have a range of sounds for rushing air, stalls and buffets and if the EQ is tuned for transducers I find this much better and smoothly fits in with the game. All without having to tune for each aircraft. I also found that when the g forces were running in SSA it made so much movement that nothing else got through and it was a bit fake feeling and out of sync. I too have a separate USB sound card. I did try to use them together to see if I could introduce a little of this back but to be honest it just ruined the game feelings and made a bit of a mess. Even the gun brrrrrts are better using sound and if you use both, then they cancel each other out and you get very little. I use voicemeeter banana to control game sound inputs so only game sound goes through the EQ and makes movement. No comms or external applications (Spotify....), works really well. Each aircraft and effects are as different as they sound and the sonic booms are booming! Not to mention explosions and other aircraft flying over, taking off etc etc. Its all there! -

No they have retracted that now. -

The game actually already provides excellent haptic feedback through the game sounds. I have used both SSASM and plain game sound. Even tried them both together just using select parts from SSASM. But I just found game sound alone is just better in every way. -

I am, but not sure if they are going to be better than 13th gen. I have been waiting to buy either since the 13th gen was announced. So impatient now! There have been a few possible red flags raised with these new chips so we will see. Why no release dates?? -
I don't use the VR controllers at all so have that unchecked. HOTASAM for me! Hands On Throttle And Stick And Mouse.

Check windows pagefile options, ensure its large and set on a fast storage drive (solid state and NvMe ideally) You have quite low system RAM for DCS VR, an upgrade to 32gb would not be wasted. Probably reduce texture to low as well.

Sounds like what would happen to everyone. When you open coolers a whole load of brackets fall out. How would you even know what you need for yours until you actually try and put it together? -

@LurkerHow did the building and testing go? -
Yeah it becomes quite a personal thing as each person has different expectations and desires. I am fairly sure that the shape of my head made for an especially small sweetspot in the G2, as it definitely sounds different to others. One of the other things about VR is that most of us never get to try other systems or headsets that we haven't purchased, so its an impossible task to compare things properly and really know what the differences are. Even my own reaction with the G2 surprised me as I went from a rift S at the time and then went back for a while before the Q2. I sacrificed comfort, colours, sound and display port for the Q2, not something I though I would do and what lead me to choose the pre-order of the G2 over the Q2 at that time. I am looking for the next one now though....
-
Personally I went the other way. VR is fairly subjective and relates to your circumstances. I had a G2 waaay back when they first came out and was so disappointed at the small sweet spot and then the massive dropoff outside of that was an added downside. I sold it and bought a Q2. Could I be happier? Yes. The usb connection is not as good, it's comfort is not as good, and the sound is basically not included as it needs headphones really. Also it's not as sharp but the big thing for me was the sweet spot is much bigger and the distortion curve is low (and configurable). So overall a much more consistent experience. It is also very easy to set up which I didn't find the G2 was at all, but that long before openxr came out. I also find it runs much better than you describe. I run very high settings with max Res at 80hz and it's pretty good. Yes I want more, but it's served me well for approx 2years. Odd you seem to have very poor performance. I'm running a i9 9900k and 3090. Maybe the extra VRAM and bandwidth make all the difference?

Progress pictures on the Eurofighter Typhoon
Hoirtel replied to DashTrueGrit's topic in DCS: Eurofighter
Wells it not clear because they don't know but if 2023 sees more progress reports then sometime in 2024 sounds like that's what they are shooting for! Very exciting, I'm off to bed now wake me up in 2024... -
Better answer, sounds about right for what I had.

Is it going to be worth going 3090 to 4090?

Couldn't tell you exactl, but mine came in a box not much bigger than the main unit with the footplates detached. Hope that helps!

AMD 7 series X3D announced
Hoirtel replied to AngleOff66's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Leaving aside the issue of prices, good 64gb kits of DDR5 just don't seem available outside of the US yet. I can see them on newegg, not sure if overseas shopping would be a good idea. This leaves the EU DCS choice for X3D as decent 32gb or slower 64gb at c40, maybe c36. Don't think these are b die either. -
